The draw resulted in two balanced groups. Qatar was placed in Group B alongside Lebanon, Tunisia, and Kuwait, while Group A includes hosts Egypt, Algeria, Bahrain, and Jordan. Qatar's U16 team will begin their campaign with a challenging match against Tunisia on Monday, August 11, followed by a clash with Kuwait on Tuesday, August 12. They will conclude the group stage against Lebanon on Wednesday, August 13. All teams will have a rest day on Thursday, August 14, before the quarterfinals commence on Friday, August 15, following a crossover format: the top team from Group A faces the fourth-placed team from Group B, the second from Group A meets the third from Group B, and vice versa. The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, August 16, with the third-place playoff and the final set for Sunday, August 17. All matches will take place at the 6th of October Indoor Arena in Cairo, drawing significant interest from Egyptian and Arab basketball fans, with teams vying for the prestigious Arab title. CAIRO, July 12: The draw for the Arab Junior Basketball Championship placed Kuwait in Group B, alongside Qatar, Lebanon, and Tunisia. Group A features host nation Egypt, along with Bahrain, Jordan, and Algeria. The draw was held yesterday in Cairo, where the tournament will take place from August 10 to 17 at the 6th of October Hall. The competition will be played in a single round-robin format across two groups. In the quarterfinal stage, the top team from Group A will face the fourth from Group B, the second from Group A will play the third from Group B, and the fourth from Group A will meet the top team from Group B. The winners will progress to the semifinals, while the losing teams will compete in placement matches for fifth to eighth place. Meanwhile, Kuwait's junior national team is scheduled to return from Bahrain this evening after concluding its participation in the Gulf Cup qualifiers for the Asian Cup finals, which will be held in Mongolia next month. The team faced Saudi Arabia last night in Manama to wrap up its campaign. In a separate development, the Arab Basketball Federation announced the postponement of the draw for the 36th Arab Men's Championship by 24 hours. This came after the Tunisian Federation withdrew from hosting the tournament on its previously scheduled dates of July 25 to August 2. The competition will now be held in December.

Muscat: In its recent meeting held on Friday in Dubai, the General Assembly of the Arab Basketball Federation selected representatives from the Sultanate of Oman to serve on federation committees an affirmation of the active presence of Omani professionals in the Arab sports arena. Said bin Ahmed al Habsi, Chairman of the Competitions Committee at the Oman Basketball Association, was appointed to the Technical and Competitions Committee in recognition of his organisational expertise and contributions to the development of domestic tournaments. Meanwhile, Alaa bin Abid al Hadhrami was selected as a member of the 3x3 Basketball Committee. He is one of the young talents who played a key role in introducing and promoting 3x3 basketball in Oman. These selections took place during the General Assembly meeting, which also witnessed the election of the new Board of Directors of the Arab Basketball Federation for the 2024–2028 term. Members unanimously renewed their confidence in Major General Ismail al Gergawi, President of the UAE Basketball Federation, re-electing him for a fourth consecutive term as President of the Arab Federation in appreciation of his outstanding leadership over previous terms. OBA Chairman Eng Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi took part in the General Assembly of the Arab Basketball Federation. The meeting, attended by 16 Arab basketball federations, also saw the participation of Eng Khalfan bin Saleh al Naabi, Chairman of Oman Basketball Association (OBA), along with several other federation heads and representatives. The session began with confirmation of the legal quorum, followed by a speech from Major General Al Gergawi, in which he thanked the members for their trust and reaffirmed his commitment to continued development and support for Arab federations in achieving their goals. The meeting also included the formation of a minutes drafting committee and an election committee, the approval of the previous meeting's minutes; and the endorsement of Board reports No 22, 23, 24 and 25. In addition, the technical and financial reports were reviewed, the final accounts of the previous term were approved; and the estimated budget and action plan for the coming period were adopted. The plan includes launching new tournaments and enhancing training and qualification programmes for technical staff across Arab countries. The selection of Omani representatives marks a significant step towards strengthening Arab sports cooperation and reflects the Arab Federation's confidence in Omani professionals and their ability to contribute effectively to the regional development of basketball.

Al-Shenfa will officially represent the Kuwait Federation at the meeting, while Al-Enezi is seeking re-election to the Arab Basketball Federation for a second consecutive term. Al-Shenfa expressed that the Kuwait Basketball Federation supports Al-Enezi's candidacy to reinforce Kuwait's presence and influence in the regional basketball scene. He described the electoral competition with the Omani candidate as a fair and sportsmanlike contest. Al-Enezi, for his part, stated that he is eager to earn the continued trust of the Arab federations to further advance basketball competitions and development across the region. Meanwhile, two key matchups will take place today in the final round of the basketball league at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex Hall. Al-Arabi will face Al-Qadsiya at 5:00 pm, followed by a highly anticipated clash between Kazma and Kuwait Club at 7:30 pm. In the opening match, Al-Qaisiya (25 points) is expected to secure an easy win over Al-Arabi (19 points), using the game as preparation for its upcoming encounter with Kuwait Club and the championship semi-finals. Al-Arabi, having missed out on a semifinal spot, will focus on fine-tuning its squad ahead of the Cup competition. The second matchup pits Al-Abyad (27 points) against Kazma (27 points) in a showdown for the top position. Kuwait Club aims to repeat its dominant performance from the first round, where it won 98-70, and finish the second half undefeated. With standout players like Hamad Adnan, Hussein Al-Khabbaz, Mohammed Adnan, Alexander Al-Ghais, Turki Hamoud, Imran Jawhar, and Yousef Al-Hamdan, Kuwait Club is poised for a strong finish.
