After being taken to a medieval re-enactment at Bodiam Castle by his father when he was a child, Scott took a liking to the sport straight away."They had a long bow there. I really enjoyed it, I picked up a recurve a year later but then moved to compound," he said."I remember the day clearly, there was jousting, long bow shooting, it was really cool."It was a full circle moment for his dad, who he called first after the World Cup win in China."I called him afterwards, I was screaming down the phone, he'd stayed up with the time difference, bless him!" Madhura Dhamangaonkar wins maiden World Cup gold

Shanghai, May 10 (UNI) Madhura Dhamangaonkar capped her dream comeback with a maiden individual gold medal, and the Indian men's compound team added another gold as India signed off with a rich medal haul at the Archery World Cup Stage 2 here on Saturday. Unranked in the World Archery standings due to a three-year hiatus, the 24-year-old Mumbai archer stunned USA's Carson Krahe 139-138 in a dramatic final to clinch her first-ever World Cup individual title. Trailing 81-85 after a costly seven in the third end, Madhura staged a brilliant comeback with a near-flawless fourth end to draw level at 110-all. She then held her nerve in the decider, shooting two Xs (perfect 10s) and a 9 to edge past Krahe by a single point, capping off her return to the international stage in spectacular fashion. This was Madhura's third medal of the tournament, following a silver in the women's team event and a bronze in the mixed team event alongside Abhishek Verma. Adding to India's medal tally, the men's compound team of Verma, Ojas Deotale and Rishabh Yadav delivered a composed performance to defeat Mexico 232-228 in a tense final. After taking a narrow 59-57 lead in the opening end, India held steady through the match, sealing victory with a superb 59 in the final end. In the women's compound team final, the Indian trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Madhura Dhamangaonkar and Chikitha Taniparthi had to settle for silver after a 221-234 loss to a strong Mexican side. Despite the one-sided final, the team showed consistency through the tournament. India's campaign concluded with a bronze in the mixed team event, where Verma and Madhura edged past Malaysia in a low-scoring playoff to secure the final spot on the podium. Madhura, who last appeared at the 2022 Archery World Cup Stage 4 in Medellin, has marked her return with a performance that underlines the growing strength and depth of Indian compound archery. With compound archery set to debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics in the mixed team category, India's consistent showings on the World Cup stage are a promising sign for its Olympic aspirations. Khelo India Youth Games Day 4: Archers catapult Maharashtra to top; Rajasthan second after sweep of cycling gold

Maharashtra regained its place at the top of the Khelo India Youth Games 2025 Bihar medal charts on Wednesday with a sweep of the six Archery gold medals in Bhagalpur, which countered Rajasthan's surge through a four-gold haul at the Yamuna Velodrome in the Indira Gandhi Indoor Complex in New Delhi. Maharashtra's gold rush was also aided by Vedant Waghmare who won the boys 50m Rifle 3 Positions shooting at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Ranges in New Delhi and another with a victory in the boys 4x100m Medley in the swimming event in Gaya, saw its gold collection increase to 14. It also had 12 silver and 12 bronze medals at the time of writing. Target Asian Games Group athlete Harshita Jakhar was in the forefront for Rajasthan as its cyclist bagged all four gold on Wednesday. Rajasthan was perched in the second spot with 10 gold, four silver and three bronze medals while Karnataka's twin gold medals in the swimming pool saw it finish the day with a collection of eight gold, 11 silver and three bronze. Bihar also enjoyed a good day in office, winning six medals, including five in Gatka – a just reward for some smart planning that entailed the hiring of coaches from Punjab, Balraj Singh and Jasbir Singh, to train the Bihar athletes in the run-up to the Games. Suhani said she has enjoyed competing in the Games and tried her best to inspire her peers to bag more medals for Bihar. The 18-year-old currently trains at the Sports Authority of India National Centre of Excellence in Patiala. Ujjwal Bharat Olekar and Sharvari Somanath Shende claimed the boys and girls recurve tiles while Manav Ganeshrao Jadhav and Prithika swept to the top of the podium in the compound competition. Maharashtra mixed recurve (Dnyanesh Cherale and Sharvari Somanath Shende) and compound (Ganeshrao Jadhav and Tejal Rajendra Salve) completed the set of six gold medals. Harshita completed a hat-trick of gold on her Khelo India debut. The 18-year-old has made the Games a memorable one. The Individual Pursuit title ahead of Bhumika (Haryana) added to her growing stature as India's premier endurance cyclists of her generation. Quite surprisingly, one of Khelo India Games powerhouses Haryana has been slow to make a mark on the medals table. Arjun Singh' 50m Backstroke victory in BIPARD Swimming Pool and Tushar's 66kg class Judo win late in the evening helped the north Indian State gather some steam and increase its tally to a three gold. At the shooting ranges in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh won both Trap gold on offer. Syed Ahyaan Ali and Poonam Raghuwanshi claimed victories in contrasting styles, the former dominating the boys final while the latter to hold her nerves to beat back Tanisska Senthilkumar (Tamil Nadu) by a one-point margin.
