Nine Medchal medical students test positive for ganja after drug peddler's confession
HYDERABAD: Following the confession of a drug peddler, EAGLE sleuths identified 100 consumers, including 32 medical students from a private college in Medchal. Drug tests were conducted, and nine students tested positive. Traced through UPI transactions On August 1, acting on a tip-off, the EAGLE team apprehended Arfath Ahmed Khan, a drug peddler with a three-year history of trafficking. He was caught with 2 kg of ganja worth around Rs 50,000. Police said the identities of the 100 consumers were traced through UPI transactions. All nine students who tested positive are hostel inmates. Counselling sessions were held in the presence of their parents and the college principal. They have been admitted to a de-addiction and rehabilitation centre. The EAGLE team said it would continue its crackdown on drug abuse and announced that drug tests would be conducted regularly across educational institutions in the state. College heads have been instructed to prevent any illegal activity on campus.

Ganja peddler held from Bollarum; Bidar-based supplier & 80 clients in Hyd identified through UPI transactions
Hyerabad: The Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) arrested a 23-year-old ganja peddler and seized two kg of the contraband from his possession in Bollarum on Friday evening. The accused has been identified as Arfath Ahmed Khan of Risala Bazar. Based on his UPI transactions, the police identified a supplier in Bidar, Karnataka, as well as over 80 clients in Hyderabad. The police have launched a manhunt to nab the supplier. Acting on a tip-off, TGANB's Hyderabad team intercepted Khan's two-wheeler near Sadhana Mandir School in Risala Bazar, Bollarum, at around 5:30 pm on Friday. Police team found two kg of ganja in the under-seat compartment of his scooter. "In his second year of Intermediate, Khan became addicted to ganja, which he used to buy in the Dhoolpet area. Due to his mother's meagre income as a tailor, Khan decided to earn easy money by selling ganja," said a TGANB official. Through a friend, he met Zareena Begum, a ganja supplier from Bidar, and started sourcing the contraband from her. Police said that his PhonePe records show 26 transfers totalling Rs 6 lakh to Begum and one payment to her son between Aug 2024 and June 2025. In July 2025, Khan paid Zareena Rs 60,000, and that month he received Rs 2.6 lakh from 49 local buyers via UPI payments. Police identified about 80 local buyers through Khan's phone payment transactions. Khan was produced before the court on Saturday and remanded to judicial custody under the NDPS Act.
