KUCHING (June 19): The Sarawak Governor's wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi graced a traditional handicraft workshop on the making of 'bunga songket' (songket flower), showcasing support for cultural heritage and women's empowerment.
Held at the Astana here today, the event was organised by the Armed Forces Welfare Body (Bakat) under the Eastern Field Command of the Malaysian Army.
The workshop aimed to equip participants with knowledge and practical skills in the intricate art of crafting bunga songket, a traditional decorative piece prized for its artistic and cultural significance.
According to a post shared on Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar's Facebook page, the programme also sought to inspire deeper appreciation for local heritage, encourage skill development, and empower women through active involvement in traditional arts.
Fauziah observed a live demonstration and participated in the hands-on crafting session, guided by instructors Shazwenatul Anira Kamaruzzaman and Suhana Wahap.
'Fauziah expresses her appreciation to Bakat for organising a meaningful programme that not only cultivates valuable skills among its members but also plays a vital role in preserving and passing down traditional local craftsmanship.
'She hopes such initiatives would continue in the future as a platform to strengthen social ties, promote interest in traditional arts, and empower women within the community,' the post read. bunga songket Fauziah Mohd Sanusi Toh Puan
