KUCHING (June 19): The Sarawak Governor's wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi graced a traditional handicraft workshop on the making of 'bunga songket' (songket flower), showcasing support for cultural heritage and women's empowerment.
Held at the Astana here today, the event was organised by the Armed Forces Welfare Body (Bakat) under the Eastern Field Command of the Malaysian Army.
The workshop aimed to equip participants with knowledge and practical skills in the intricate art of crafting bunga songket, a traditional decorative piece prized for its artistic and cultural significance.
According to a post shared on Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar's Facebook page, the programme also sought to inspire deeper appreciation for local heritage, encourage skill development, and empower women through active involvement in traditional arts.
Fauziah observed a live demonstration and participated in the hands-on crafting session, guided by instructors Shazwenatul Anira Kamaruzzaman and Suhana Wahap.
'Fauziah expresses her appreciation to Bakat for organising a meaningful programme that not only cultivates valuable skills among its members but also plays a vital role in preserving and passing down traditional local craftsmanship.
'She hopes such initiatives would continue in the future as a platform to strengthen social ties, promote interest in traditional arts, and empower women within the community,' the post read. bunga songket Fauziah Mohd Sanusi Toh Puan

RM32 Fried Rice, RM11 teh o ais limau? M'sian says ‘No Fuiyoh' to Uncle Roger's overhyped eatery

A Malaysian man's recent dining experience at Uncle Roger's Restaurant has sparked debate online after he claimed the food wasn't worth the RM370 he paid. Steven Chan took to Facebook to share a detailed review of his visit to the Mid Valley Southkey outlet, listing 16 items he and his group ordered, which included service charges and SST. ALSO READ: Hong Kong content creator calls Uncle Roger's new KL restaurant 'worst dining experience' While price was a concern, Steven's main issue was the food quality. 'I ordered the cheapest fried rice for RM16. 'The owner asked if I wanted to add anything. I said garlic prawns, and that added another RM16 — but I only got five bland prawns. Total RM32. One bite in, and my heart sank,' he wrote. 'Even the boss double-checked the bill, asking, 'How did simple fried rice cost RM37?' Yeah, I want to know that too. 'As for the fried dumplings — sure, they were stuffed, but still felt way overpriced,' he lamented. 'I also ordered Uncle Roger's 'favourite drink' — RM11.50, and it turned out to be just a teh o ais limau. 'Sorry Uncle Roger. No Fuiyoh, No Next Time,' he stated. In conclusion, he advised others to skip the restaurant unless they're die-hard fans. 'Unless you're really craving for it, don't go. This is the kind of place you try once and never return,' he said. Since its opening in September 2024, Uncle Roger's Restaurant — founded by Malaysian comedian Nigel Ng, famous for his viral food critique videos — has received mixed reviews, with many diners pointing out long waiting times and inconsistent food standards. Steven's post triggered swift reactions online, with some netizens siding with him while others argued that he had the choice not to eat there in the first place. One user called Wong Ta Fat wrote: 'The expensive part isn't even the food — it's the 'IQ tax' that cost RM300, while the actual food was just RM70. I have no interest at all in trying these kinds of restaurants.' '6 plates of fried rice, 1 fried noodles, 6 bottles of water, 1 serving of satay, and 2 portions of mala dumplings. The average price per item came to RM23.18, including service charge and tax. Comparable to prices at a shopping mall — though the portion sizes, that's another question,' Vincent Yeap pointed out.

(Photos) Miss HK 2025 Contestants Pose In Swimsuits During Filming In Penang

As we get closer to the finale of this year's Miss Hong Kong Pageant 2025 (2025香港小姐競選), we're getting more content of the contestants, including new photoshoots. Recently, TVB dropped pictures from the contestants' swimsuit photoshoot, giving the public a glimpse at the ladies' toned physiques. The 14 contestants are currently in Penang, filming at some of the state's most iconic sites for the pageant. Yesterday (4th August 2025), the ladies appeared at Batu Ferringhi Beach to film the highlighted segment of the pageant, the swimsuit portion. While it had rained on the morning of the photoshoot, the contestants remained in high spirits throughout the filming. TVB has since released photos from the shoot, showing off the pageant hopefuls' eye-catching bodies. As shown in the pictures, the contestants don tropical-inspired swimsuits in pastel blue and orange tones. Since most of the ladies are very active in sports, they boast impressive and well-proportioned figures. In an interview with an entertainment news programme, contestant Stacey Chan (陳詠詩) said she also made sure to monitor her eating and exercise more before the photoshoot to achieve the best results. Besides the swimsuit photoshoot at Batu Ferringhi Beach, the contestants also filmed for the pageant at City Hall in George Town last week. Elegantly dressed in white, the 14 finalists turned heads and drew curious onlookers with their beauty. This year marks the first time the Hong Kong beauty pageant has been filmed in Penang since its establishment in 1973. The filming is part of a collaborative effort between the Penang State Government and TVB. Given the popularity of the pageant, the government is hoping to boost tourism by highlighting local attractions through the programme. State tourism and creative economy committee chairman Wong Hon Wai spoke about the collaboration, saying, 'Through the lens and journey of the contestants, the Miss Hong Kong Pageant 2025 will offer global audiences an immersive glimpse into Penang's breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage and contemporary charm.' The Miss Hong Kong Pageant 2025, where this year's Miss Hong Kong will be crowned, is scheduled for 31st August 2025 (Sunday). Which contestant has caught your attention so far?
