The slasher scandal of 1984 gets an update in Silent Night, Deadly Night remake teaser
Terrifier 3 already saw Art The Clown ruin Christmas, but why stop there? The slasher business is booming, so it's as good a time as ever for Cineverse to bring back an old holiday horror: Silent Night, Deadly Night. Premiering December 12, the new film is billed as 'A reimagining of the controversial 1984 cult horror classic,' which scandalized audiences with its marketing campaign centered around a killer Santa Claus. More than 40 years later, here's the synopsis for the Cineverse remake: 'When Billy witnesses his parents' grisly murder on Christmas Eve at the hands of Santa, it ignites a lifelong mission to spread holiday fear. Every Christmas, he dons the jolly red suit and delivers a blood-soaked massacre to feed his twisted sense of justice. This Christmas Eve, Billy wants to know: 'Have you been naughty?'' The Silent Night, Deadly Night teaser gets right to it with ax-wielding action and blood splattering on Santa's (fake) snow-white beard. Audiences are probably more desensitized to the shock of a killer Santa in 2025, but in 1984 parents protested that the depiction—even just in the marketing—was traumatizing for kids. The outcry ultimately led to the ads being pulled from the press and later the film being pulled from theaters. Critics didn't dig it either, with Gene Siskel calling out everyone involved with making the movie and declaring 'Shame on you' on At The Movies. In 2012, The A.V. Club's Noel Murray had a milder view, observing it was 'as run-of-the-mill a slasher film as the '80s produced, enjoyable today primarily for its kitsch value.' Despite the controversy or the quality, the film was successful enough to spawn four sequels and a 'slick but soulless' (in Murray's words) remake starring Malcolm McDowell, Jaime King, and Donal Logue. Cineverse's new take stars Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends) as Billy, with an ensemble cast that includes Ruby Modine, Mark Acheson, David Lawrence Brown, and David Tomlinson. We'll see where this one fits into the Silent Night pantheon. More from A.V. ‘Terrifier' House Inspired by 2022 Sequel Set for Halloween Horror Nights
Terrifier fans will get to experience a funhouse of horrors starring the one and only Art the Clown as part of this year's Halloween Horror Nights event. Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort announced the slasher franchise as the latest addition to the 2025 house lineup on Thursday. The news follows previous reveals of houses and experiences based on Fallout, Friday the 13th, and Five Nights at Freddy's. More from The Hollywood Reporter Cynthia Erivo, Michael Bay Tackling Adaptation of Sci-Fi Thriller 'Saturation Point' for Universal Steven Spielberg Says "I Have No Plans Ever to Retire" at Universal Theater Dedication 'Friday the 13th' House "Jason Universe" Announced for Halloween Horror Nights 2025 Based on the universe created by writer-director Damien Leone, producer Phil Falcone along with Dark Age Cinema Productions, the maze promises to deliver 'a grisly haunted house oozing with a new sense of terror.' Inspired by Art the Clown's nightmare funhouse at the abandoned carnival from the 2022 sequel, the house will see attendees become the latest victims of Terrifier's titular murderer. As they walk through, fans can expect to be overwhelmed by the 'sights, sounds, smells and dread' of Art's grotesque kills, which will be 'gleefully displayed for all to see,' according to the event. In addition to witnessing a number of iconic kills from the franchise, within the house's 'claustrophobic' corridors attendees can also expect to run into some familiar faces, including Vicky and the Little Pale Girl, as they move through recreated locations like the Clown Café, a revolting bathroom, and a deadly Christmas horrorscape. Known for its unbridled brutality and unabashed gore, the Terrifier franchise is one of the horror genre's biggest modern success stories, with the low-budget, unrated trilogy garnering around $100 million at the global box office on a combined budget of less than $2.5 million. The slasher universe began its feature journey in 2016 with Terrifier, but its leading serial killer appeared in several of Leone's short films dating back to 2008. Since then, the franchise has spawned not only a big screen trilogy, but an arcade game, novelizations, and comic books, alongside a fourth film in the works. Set in the fictional town of Miles County, New York, the Terrifier franchise follows the demonic serial killer known as Art the Clown, who has been terrorizing and torturing residents on Halloween in increasingly sick, cruel and sinister ways. Halloween Horror Nights kicks off at Universal Orlando Resort on Aug. 29 and Universal Studios Hollywood on Sept. 4, with both events running through Nov. 2 and tickets already on sale. Art the Clown's Origin Will Be Revealed in First 15 Minutes of TERRIFIER 4, Says Creator Damien Leone: 'It's Not Going to Disappoint' — GeekTyrant
Get ready to enter the twisted mind of Art the Clown. Terrifier creator Damien Leone has confirmed that fans won't have to wait long to finally get the answers they've been craving. Speaking at Texas Frightmare Weekend with Cris Parker of 3C Films, Leone dropped a blood-soaked bombshell about Terrifier 4 : 'I know this word gets used a lot, but it's going to be epic, it's not going to disappoint. You're going to get Art's backstory in the first 15 minutes.' After years of speculation and mounting mythology, Terrifier 4 is wasting no time. The origin of the iconic, grinning monster will be revealed upfront, clearing the way for the rest of the film to do what this franchise does best… unleash bloody chaos. Fans knew this chapter would finally lift the veil on where Art comes from, but Leone's update makes it clear that this won't be a drawn-out slow burn. With the origin story front-loaded, there's plenty of room for Art to return to doing what he does best—slicing, dicing, and creeping his way through Miles County like the nightmare clown he is. Leone first confirmed Terrifier 4 was happening back in September 2024, and in early 2025, he began sharing updates on social media. 'It's shaping up to be a most epic, thrilling, nasty, horrifying, and emotional, finale. I will finally reveal Art's origin.' Leone has hinted this could be the conclusion to the series, though he's also left the door cracked open, admitting that telling the whole story might require more than one movie. If Terrifier 4 picks up where the third film left off, we're in for a hell of a ride. After a brutal Christmas Eve rampage, Art was left wounded but still ticking, and he managed to escape after a hellish portal swallowed Sienna's young cousin Gabbie. Sienna, bloodied but unbroken, vowed to bring Gabbie back and end Art's reign of terror for good. So yeah, we're probably headed to Hell. David Howard Thornton is expected to return as Art, and Lauren LaVera will reprise her role as the battle-worn Sienna. With the emotional stakes higher than ever and the mythology finally cracking wide open, Terrifier 4 is shaping up to be the blood-soaked climax fans have been waiting for.

‘Terrifier' Is Officially Coming To Halloween Horror Nights 2025
Supernatural slayer Art the Clown brings his unique blend of creatively cruel and sickeningly ... More sinister slaying to Universal's Halloween Horror Nights. Art the Clown is going to raise hell as the Terrifier film franchise comes to Halloween Horror Nights for the first time. An all-new blood-soaked haunted house will be scaring the living daylights out of guests at both Universal Studios Hollywood and Orlando's Universal Studios Resort. For those of you who are not familiar with Art the Clown, he's a supernatural entity who terrorizes the fictional town of Miles County, New York, on Halloween, torturing his victims in creative but cruel and "sickeningly sinister ways." The Terrifier immersive experience will allow guests to experience "an unfathomable level of gore" as they try to escape becoming Art the Clown's next victims. Promising "a grisly haunted house oozing with a new sense of terror," ticket holders for the seasonal event will find themselves in the demented clown's gruesome Funhouse, which first appeared in the second film. Overwhelmed by the sights, sounds, and smells, as they witness the horror of his handywork, they'll make their way through the claustrophobic corridors, witnessing iconic kills from the franchise and encountering familiar faces, such as Vicky and the Little Pale Girl. When they're done there, they'll endure the bloody chaos of the Clown Café where "terror festers in a revolting bathroom and holiday cheer turns deadly in a Christmas nightmare." The three Terrifier films, the brainchild of writer-director Damien Leone and producer Phil Falcone, have collectively earned over $100 million worldwide. The third entry alone earned over $90 million at the global box office. A fourth Terrifier is already in development. Terrifier manifesting at Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios is something Leone has been dreaming of for years. He's a big fan of the event and knows there's a massive overlap in fandoms. It's something he discussed with me when Terrifier 3 hit theaters in October 2024. "I've spoken to people there, and there's certainly interest because they couldn't even deny it either," he revealed. "They see what's going on. It was either last year or this year where they kept saying, 'We saw more Terrifier shirts at Halloween Horror Nights than anything else.' Art the Clown has hit a nerve recently, and he's really out there. I think he's the most popular he's ever been. Art is in Call of Duty; he's also in Spirit Halloween, Spencer's, and Hot Topic, among other stores. There are numerous Halloween costumes and a vast amount of merchandise. Being a Funko Pop is one of the greatest honors, as I would collect those, and now I have my character as one. It's so surreal. We're loving every bit of this and are so grateful." (Clockwise from top) 'Monstruos 3: The Ghosts of Latin America,' 'Jason Universe,' and 'Fallout' ... More houses have already been announced. 'Terrifier' Is The Tip Of The Nightmarish Iceberg At Halloween Horror Nights 2025 Terrifier isn't the first attraction to be announced for the hugely popular seasonal event that draws horror fans from across the US and around the world every year. Fellow slasher icon Jason Voorhees is the star of Jason Universe, which sees the seemingly indestructible killer from the Friday the 13th franchise get his own haunted house at both Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood. The all-original experience will take guests back on 'a vengeance tour through the summer camp to see where it all began, from the creaking floorboards of Jason's ramshackle cabin to the decaying main lodge and the eerie forest that offers no refuge for his victims.' Also featuring at this year's Halloween Horror Nights is a house inspired by Fallout, Prime Video's acclaimed smash hit show. Ahead of the series' second season premiere, the immersive Fallout attraction will transport fans into iconic scenes and put them face-to-face with their characters on a journey from Vault 33 to the Wasteland. Meanwhile, La Llorona headlines Monstruos 3: The Ghosts of Latin America, the third maze based on Latin American folklore. In addition to the legendary Weeping Woman, the Colombian female boogeyman, the sharp-toothed La Muelona, and the horse-headed La Siguanaba will also feature to scare the bejesus out of visitors. Halloween Horror Nights kicks off at Universal Studios Hollywood on Thursday, September 4, 2025. Universal Orlando Resort gets the ball rolling a little earlier on Friday, August 29, 2025. Tickets are now on sale. Expect more news on additional Halloween Horror Nights haunted houses, scarezones, and live shows in the coming weeks, including the full reveal of the plans for Five Nights at Freddy's at both parks.

‘Terrifier 4' Will Finally Dig Deep into Art the Clown's Origins
Terrifier franchise filmmaker Damien Leone was on hand to meet fans at the recent Texas Frightmare Weekend. During the event, the director of the upcoming Terrifier 4 chatted with horror vlogger and pop culture commentator 3C and gave the channel quite a scoop. When asked to describe Terrifier 4 in a word, Leone told 3C, 'I know this word gets used a lot, but it's going to be epic, it's not going to disappoint.' The highly anticipated next installment will continue Art the Clown's (David Howard Thorton) slasher rampage through Miles County. And to hype up the film even more, he told 3C, 'You're going to get Art's backstory in the first 15 minutes.' Many fans have speculated that Art's origins might hold the key to defeating him once and for all. But where's the fun in that? We'd like to see him continue on reeking bloody havok with in his full gleeful gory glory. Earlier this year Leone expressed gratitude to his fans on his birthday with a post on X that read, 'Figure I'd give you a present in return! The script for Terrifier 4 is in the works and it's shaping up to be a most epic, thrilling, nasty, horrifying, emotional and utterly satisfying conclusion. P.s., I will finally reveal Art's origin.'
