Hazaribag: The Vinoba Bhave University is working on a plan to set up a 'Research and Incubation Centre'. The varsity has received funds from the Union govt, officials said. Ranchi: The state excise department on Friday began the application process for allocation of retail liquor shops under the new excise policy, which will be implemented on Sept 1. The application process that started on Friday will end on Aug 20, during the time frame applicants have to take part in the process through an online portal, The applicants have to deposit an application fee and earnest money deposit (EMD), fixed by the department, while submitting their applications. A total of 1,343 retail liquor shops are up for grabs, of which 159 are country liquor shops and 1,184 are composite liquor shops, which are allowed to sell both country liquor and IMFL. The highest number of shops, 150, has been allocated in Ranchi district. While Lohardaga has got the lowest - 11. "The portal will remain open till 7 pm on Aug 20. The applicants have to pay the application fee and the EMD, which amounts to two per cent of the minimum guarantee revenue (MGR). MGR varies for each shop according to factors like the location of the shop, its business potential and the owners have to pay it to the govt. yearly. A senior official at the dept., on condition of anonymity, said that the provision to pay EMD in the application procedure is included to ensure that no frivolous application comes. "The lottery process will be telecast live on the websites of the excise dept. and the district. Lottery results will also be published on the websites," the source added.

Ranchi: The excise department has unearthed an illegal liquor manufacturing factory and seized 500 boxes of fake liquor during an operation carried out in Mahiloung under Tatisilwayi police station limits on Friday afternoon, stated officials. The seized liquor was worth Rs 50 lakh. Ranchi assistant excise commissioner Arun Kumar Mishra stated that two persons namely Abhishek Kumar and Rahul Kumar have been arrested in this connection. He added that the liquor were being brought from other states like Haryana and Punjab and filled up in bottles of premium brands to be sold at high prices in the market. He stated that such liquor may also be spurious causing health hazards.
