Temples in Old City get decked up for celebrations
Hyderabad: The stage is all set for the last leg of state festival of Ashada Masam Bonalu in the city, as the temples in the city, particularly in the Old City, have been decked up with illumination for the two-day cultural extravaganza on Sunday and Monday. Starting from Sri Jagadambika Temple in Golkonda Fort on June 26, the Bonalu Festival was grandly celebrated in different parts of the city. There was Kalyana Mahotsavam of Sri Yellamma at Balkampet, two days festival on July 13 and 14 at Sri Ujjaini Mahankali at Secunderabad as part of the Lashkar Bonalu Jatara, at Mahankali temples at Begum Bazar, Goshamahal, Chandanwadi on July 16. Now the final date of pooja will be held in all parts of the city and the major attraction will be at the Old City. The Ummidi Devalayala Uregimpu Committee, which has 25 temples from Old City, has made big arrangements for the grand celebrations of Bonalu during the last Sunday of Ashada Masam. While the festival falls on Sunday and Monday, the temples gave a crowded look from Thursday itself where several VIPs, Shiva Sattulu came to the temple with offering and Bonams. The Ghatam Sthapana was completed on July 13 in the old city temples like Sri Lal Darwaza Simhavahini Mahankali Temple, Sri Akkanna Madanna Mahankali Temple. On Friday, the Executive officer of the Vijayawada Sri Durga Malleshwara Swamy temple Sena Nayak along with vedic scholars and officials visited the Lal Darwaja Simhavahini Sri Mahankali Temple and presented Silk Clothes to the Goddess. The Lal Darwaja Temple Committee Chairman B. Maruti Yadav welcomed them and honoured them.

Bonalu begins on grand note at Golkonda Fort
Hyderabad: The state festival of Bonalu started on a grand note on Thursday as devotees, especially women folks, thronged the temple in the Golkonda Fort with Bonam on their heads. The colourful Thottela procession taken out from Langar Houz to the Golkonda Fort was a major attraction with Potharajus and Shiva Sattulu dancing to the tunes of Teenmar bands as thousands passed through the lanes leading towards the Fort. The artistes from Vijaywada were also seen dancing on the beats Bonalu songs. The women folks offered Bonam. The Endowments Minister Konda Surekha and BRS MLC K Kavitha carried the Bonam on their heads. The Speaker of Telangana Assembly G Prasad Kumar, Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, MP Anil Yadav and others participated in the event and also offered silk clothes to the goddess Sri Jagadambika Mahankali Ammavaru. Speaking on the occasion, Konda Surekha said that Ashada Masam Bonalu stands as a symbol of culture and tradition. She said that she wished that the blessings of Jagadamba Ammavari should be on the people of Telangana and the state government. She said that the Bonalu tradition has been continuing in the twin cities for hundreds of years. The Chief Minister allocated Rs 20 crore for organising Bonalu in the twin cities of Hyderabad and has been handed over in advance. She said that Golkonda Bonalu has great importance and significance. People and devotees were flocking to Hyderabad metropolis due to the importance of Bonalu festival from all over the state. She said that she feels lucky to offer the first Bonam to the goddess. The second and important pooja will be on Sunday where Maru Bonam will be offered to the goddesses in Golkonda. The next two Thursdays and Sundays will be busy with thousands expected to arrive at the temple.

Bonalu festivities to kick off in city from Golkonda Fort today
Hyderabad: The state festival of Ashada Masam Bonalu is set to commence in the city from Thursday, with the first Bonum offered to Jagadambika Ammavaru at the temple nestled within the historic Golkonda Fort. The month-long festival will begin on the first Thursday of Ashada Masam Amavasya and conclude with the final puja of the Goddess on Amavasya, July 24. Following the inaugural ceremony at the Jagadamma Mahankali (Yellamma Talli) temple in Golkonda Fort, nine pujas will be held every Thursday and Sunday. During these, devotees will devoutly offer Bonam to the Goddess. The festivities will kick off with a grand procession of the Tottelu, commencing from Langar Houz Cross Roads and making its way to the Golkonda Fort Temple. This vibrant procession will feature Potarajus dancing to the energetic beats of teenmar bands, showcasing Telangana's rich cultural and folk traditions. At 12 noon, a Rath Yatra will proceed from the priest's house in Chhota Bazar, carrying the festival idol of the goddess along with the Tottelu to the Golkonda Fort temple. This procession will be accompanied by band music, cultural tableaux, and Potraju's dance, while Bonam will be brought for the goddess from Banjara Darwaza. Ministers will also offer silk clothes to Ammavaru on behalf of the government. Following the commencement of Bonalu, the second puja of the goddess will take place on Sunday 29 June, the third on Thursday 3 July, the fourth on Sunday 6 July, the fifth on Thursday 10 July, and the sixth puja (Lashkar Bonalu Jatara) on Sunday 13 July at Sri Ujjaini Mahankali Temple in Secunderabad. On 14 July, the temple authorities will conduct Rangam and a procession. On the same day, the Shri Mahankali Jatara Bonalu Utsavala Ummidi Devalayala Uregimpu Committee from Old City will organise a Ghatam procession. On Sunday 20 July, Bonalu will be held in Old City, followed by Rangam on Monday 21 July. A large procession will mark the culmination of the festival on Monday 21 July, after Rangam at 3 pm, led by the Haribavalli Akkanna Madanna Sri Mahankali Temple of the Old City. The government has allocated Rs 20 crore for the temples and assured the provision of all necessary infrastructure for the festival.

Bonalu festivities to start in city on June 26; govt grants Rs 20 cr
Hyderabad: The Telangana Government would be celebrating the state festival of Ashada Masam Bonalu grandly in 28 major temples in the city starting from June 26. The state government has allocated a budget of Rs 20 crore for the Bonalu festival. A review meeting was organised with the temple committees at the MCR HRD institute on Tuesday on the ensuing Bonalu Festival, which was attended by the Endowment Minister Konda Surekha and Hyderabad in-charge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar. Minister Konda Surekha told the officials that Ashada Bonalu Jatara should be grandly held in all 28 temples and all departments should work in coordination to avoid any problems. The Minister further said that there were no budget constraints for the Bonalu festival and the government had already allocated Rs 20 crore. She said that if more funds are required, they would bring this to the attention of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and funds would be allocated, she said, adding the government would respond positively in this matter. She also said that the officials should take steps to ensure that the devotees do not face any difficulties anywhere. Reminding that Minister Ponnam Prabhakar had faced difficulties during the festivals last year, and this time, the minister directed the officials to prepare a special program and make arrangements so that such incidents do not recur. The first Bonam will begin in Golconda on June 26. After that, there will be Bonalu Jatara in Balkampet, Ujjaini Mahankali, and Lal Darwaja. There will also be rangams and big processions. The ministers directed the officials to complete the arrangements for that. The ministers asked that the cheques given to the temples should be coordinated and claimed before the festivals, and that the officials should work with the attitude of serving rather than doing their job. The ministers directed the police to coordinate with all departments to maintain law and order and also to take steps to prevent any lapses. Minister Konda Surekha directed the officials to collect everyone's opinions on the problems prevailing in the temples and ensure that there were no difficulties in the management of Bonalu Festival. GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijaya Lakshmi, Rajya Sabha member Anil Kumar Yadav, Principal Secretary of the Endowment Department Shailaja Ramaiyar, DGP Jitender, Endowment Director Venkata Rao, CP CV Anand, district collectors, senior police officers, and heads of various departments participated in this coordination review meeting.
