During the ceremony organised by the planning and coordination department, Majhi emphasised the success of aspirational district and block programmes as models for promoting local development. The initiative focuses on inclusive development through various social and economic indicators, including health, education, agriculture, and skill development.
The campaign aligns with the Prime Minister's "Vocal for Local" movement and introduces the "Aspirational Brand" launched in 2024.
This initiative is expected to improve the economic status of local women's self-help groups, farmers, artisans, and weavers while ensuring fair prices for consumers. The programme will also facilitate digital marketing of local products through e-marketplaces, a govt statement reads.
Currently, the aspirational district program (ADP) operates in 10 districts, while the aspirational block program (ABP) covers 29 blocks across 16 districts in
.
The state's performance in these programmes was noteworthy, with districts collectively securing awards worth Rs 165 crore, the statement maintains.
At the ceremony, several districts and blocks were recognised for their outstanding performance. Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts received gold medals, while Kandhamal and Koraput earned silver medals. In the block category, Khairput, Mathili, Chitrakonda and Dabugaon blocks were awarded gold medals.
