During the ceremony organised by the planning and coordination department, Majhi emphasised the success of aspirational district and block programmes as models for promoting local development. The initiative focuses on inclusive development through various social and economic indicators, including health, education, agriculture, and skill development.
The campaign aligns with the Prime Minister's "Vocal for Local" movement and introduces the "Aspirational Brand" launched in 2024.
This initiative is expected to improve the economic status of local women's self-help groups, farmers, artisans, and weavers while ensuring fair prices for consumers. The programme will also facilitate digital marketing of local products through e-marketplaces, a govt statement reads.
Currently, the aspirational district program (ADP) operates in 10 districts, while the aspirational block program (ABP) covers 29 blocks across 16 districts in
.
The state's performance in these programmes was noteworthy, with districts collectively securing awards worth Rs 165 crore, the statement maintains.
At the ceremony, several districts and blocks were recognised for their outstanding performance. Malkangiri and Nabarangpur districts received gold medals, while Kandhamal and Koraput earned silver medals. In the block category, Khairput, Mathili, Chitrakonda and Dabugaon blocks were awarded gold medals.

Building Pune: Pune Metro to expedite work on extended route from PCMC to Nigdi

Pune Metro rail authorities are expediting the completion of the extended segment of the Phase One route from PCMC station to Bhakti Shakti in Nigdi, with the goal of making it operational six months ahead of schedule. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the construction of this 4.413 km-long extended stretch in March last year, but the actual work began only five months later. 'The construction of the extension stretch from PCMC to Bhakti Shakti in Nigdi began in August last year, and the civil work is going in full swing. The deadline for completing work on the stretch is 36 months from the start of actual work, but we are planning to complete it in 30 months,' said Hemant Sonawane, Executive Director, Pune Metro Rail. Sonawane said the administrative processes for laying overhead cables on the track and the mechanical work of installing escalators and lifts have begun even before the completion of civil work. 'We don't want to waste time on completing the administrative process for the works related to the stretch, so it has been done well in advance,' said Sonawane. The route from PCMC to Bhakti Shakti in Nigdi is elevated and has three stations at Chinchwad, Akurdi, and Nigdi. The estimated cost of the extended route is Rs 1,048.22 crore, which covers expenses on development of intermodal integration, stations, pedestrian bridge, system and tracks, environment impact assessment, design, depot and parking on the route. The 17.4 km Metro route from Swargate to PCMC has been made operational and has received positive response from the public. This route has been extended from PCMC to Nigdi on one end and Swargate to Katraj on the other end. However, the construction on the extended underground route of 5.5 km from Swargate to Katraj is yet to start even though it is expected to be completed by February 2029 at an estimated cost of Rs 2,954.53 crore. Additionally, the second route, measuring 15.7 km from Vanaz to Ramwadi, is also fully operational. Last month, the Central Government approved its extension on both ends — connecting Vanaz to Chandani Chowk and Ramwadi to Wagholi. These two extended elevated corridors will span 12.75 km and include 13 stations, linking fast-developing suburbs such as Chandani Chowk, Bavdhan, Kothrud, Kharadi, and Wagholi. The project is scheduled for completion within four years at an estimated cost of Rs 3636.24 crore. Meanwhile, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is developing the Metro Line-3, which will span 23 km from Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar District Court. This line is expected to start operations by March 2026. Ajay Jadhav is an Assistant Editor with The Indian Express, Pune. Solar panels to be installed in group housing societies

New Delhi: Delhi govt is going to identify cooperative group housing societies and dairy cooperative societies for the installation of solar panels under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana . Senior officials of the ministry of cooperatives recently held a meeting with the officials of the registrar of cooperative societies for this purpose. Both central govt and Delhi govt offer a subsidy on the installation of rooftop solar panels. According to officials, Delhi govt has adopted a focused campaign to popularise the installation of rooftop solar panels under the scheme by involving cooperative societies. A joint secretary in the Union ministry of cooperation discussed the strategies for implementing the scheme through cooperative societies. "It was decided in a meeting that at least one housing cooperative society and one dairy society be identified under the initial phase," said an official of the Delhi's registrar of cooperative societies. The official added that managing committees, unions and federations of cooperative group housing societies have been requested to start identifying a housing cooperative society with enough space for rooftop solarisation. Though Delhi govt has been pushing for the popularisation of rooftop solar power , it has not picked up much. Delhi govt has even increased the subsidy component on the installation of the plants and made the process easier. "Delhi govt recently approved a subsidy of Rs 30,000 as a top-up subsidy over and above that provided under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna. Hence, a total subsidy of Rs 1.08 lakh (including Rs 78,000 provided by the Centre) can be availed on the installation of a rooftop solar plant of 3 kW capacity," said another official. PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijlee Yojana is a central govt scheme aimed at providing free electricity to one crore households in India, who opt to install rooftop solar electricity units.
