Dedication ceremony held for Chalmette Slip Rehabilitation Project
ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. (WGNO) — After years of repair work, the Saint Bernard Port's Chalmette Slip is returning to full operation, with a dedication celebrating the historic event.
Port officials say the repairs will make the port more efficient and lead to hiring more workers.

'In 2002, we were handling about 700,000 tons of cargo through these facilities a year. And now, we're up to 9 million tons a year in handling, and what that has basically equated to: more jobs, more activities, more sub-contractors, more vendors and more support with the community,' said Associated Terminals and Turn Services Chairman Gary Poirrier.
