Winners of ‘Arab Young Scientists Award' announced
The winners of the Yousef Bin Saeed Lootah Young Scientists Award in the fields of circular economy, renewable energy, and green chemistry were officially announced during the opening session of the 57th General Conference of the Association of Arab Universities (an organisation working within the framework of the Arab League). The event was held at the International University of Science and Technology in Kuwait, and was attended by Dr Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Dr Amr Ezzat Salama, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, Dr Abdelmajid Bin Amara, Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils, as well as presidents and representatives of over 300 Arab universities, alongside a distinguished group of academics and higher education experts from across the Arab world. The winners of the Yousef Bin Saeed Lootah Young Scientists Award were recognised across three categories: In the circular economy category, the first prize of $15,000 was awarded to Professor Dr Heba Salah Hamed from Ain Shams University in Egypt. In the renewable energy category, the first prize of $15,000 went to a project by Professor Dr Maher Al-Jaabari, researcher Raghad Mubarak, and researcher Dana Al-Jaabari from Palestine Polytechnic University. The second prize of $7,500 in the same category was awarded to researchers Mohamed Nasser Nafeh and Hamdy Hassan from Zagazig University in Egypt. In the green chemistry category, the first prize of $15,000 was awarded to Professor Dr. Wael Dagher from Damascus University in Syria. The second prize of $7,500 went to researcher Dalia Hamed Amer from Badr University in Egypt. During his speech at the conference's opening session, Yousef Bin Saeed Lootah, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Yousef Bin Saeed Lootah Investment Group, praised the high caliber of research submitted by young Arab scientists. He expressed his pride in their scientific excellence and in recognizing this distinguished group through the first Arab award of its kind focused on circular economy, renewable energy, and green chemistry. He noted the award's significant strong engagement from the scientific and academic communities across the region, emphasizing that this award is just the first step toward transforming winning research into real-world initiatives and development projects. He said: 'This award reflects the wise leadership of the United Arab Emirates in promoting science and supporting young scientists across the Arab world. It aligns with the UAE's vision for achieving sustainable development goals and the Net Zero 2050 Strategy.' Although the winners were announced at the opening session of the General Conference, a special awards ceremony will be held in Dubai to honor the winners and their university presidents, where the official prizes will be presented. Additionally, several researchers from the UAE who submitted outstanding projects in the same scientific fields will also be recognized. The Yousef Bin Saeed Lootah Investment Group and the Association of Arab Universities had jointly announced the launch of the Yousef Bin Saeed Lootah Young Scientists Award in Dubai in December 2023. Supervised by the Association of Arab Universities, the award is granted every two years to five winners who are either current students or recent graduates from any of the Union's member universities. The award's total value is Dhs250,000 and covers three core areas: circular economy, renewable energy, and green chemistry. The award aims to promote research, education, and international collaboration in these fields, spotlight the achievements of young scientists, highlight the potential impact of their research and innovations on social and economic transformation and sustainable development, and encourage youth engagement with science.

UOS participates in Arab Universities Conference in Kuwait
Presiding over the University of Sharjah's delegation was His Excellency Professor Hamid Majoul Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah. His presence underscored the institution's commitment to academic leadership and regional collaboration, a vision strongly supported by His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University. For two days, Kuwait became a vibrant hub for dialogue and innovation, as university leaders and scholars tackled the pressing challenges facing higher education amidst rapid technological change. The conference agenda was ambitious: fostering academic cooperation, sharing expertise, and exploring opportunities in artificial intelligence, e-learning, and innovation. The discussions reflected a shared determination to propel Arab universities into a future defined by digital transformation and cross-border academic synergy. During meetings held as part of the conference, Prof. Al Nuaimi highlighted the University of Sharjah's unwavering commitment to advancing academic excellence and reinforcing the stature of Arab education on the global stage. He emphasized the University's ongoing efforts to expand its regional and international presence, actively contribute to the development of joint educational and research policies and promote the exchange of academic knowledge and expertise. Prof. Al Naimiy also lauded the pivotal role played by the Association of Arab Universities in fostering dialogue and integration among higher education institutions. He reaffirmed the University of Sharjah's dedication to supporting the Association's initiatives and engaging in its future projects, all in pursuit of elevating university education and advancing sustainable development across the Arab world. The conference's sessions delved into critical issues such as enhancing the quality of education in Arab universities, expanding the scope of scientific research collaboration, encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship, and spotlighting the importance of digital transformation in higher education. Participants also discussed strategies to improve university rankings at both the Arab and international levels. During his visit to Kuwait, the University of Sharjah delegation paid a visit to the UAE Embassy, where they were welcomed by Dr. Matar Hamed Al Neyadi, the UAE Ambassador to Kuwait. The meeting explored avenues for strengthening academic ties with Kuwaiti institutions, reflecting the University of Sharjah's rapid development and its expanding network of international collaborations. The discussions covered a range of academic topics aimed at furthering higher education and scientific research. In addition, Prof. Al Nuaimi took part in the 56th session of the Executive Council of the Association of Arab Universities, joining fellow university leaders in deliberations that promise to shape the future of higher education in the region.

UOS hosts Sixth Arab Student Leadership Forum
Spanning four days, the event aimed to help the students acquire valuable leadership skills that foster creative thinking and effective decision-making. It also provided a platform for students to interact, compete, and transform ideas into independent and sustainable projects. During the opening ceremony, His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, expressed his gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, for his continuous support in empowering young people and preparing them for the future. He emphasized that the forum aligns with Sheikh Sultan's vision of fostering a generation of ambitious young innovators capable of contributing to societal development and who possess modern leadership skills. Prof. Al Naimiy reaffirmed the University's commitment to strengthening its collaboration with the Association of Arab Universities and the Arab Institute for Leadership Development, underscoring the shared goal of preparing students to tackle future challenges and drive progress in the Arab world. The University's active role in the forum was highlighted through expert-led lectures by UoS faculty and guided tours of key university facilities, including the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology, the central laboratories, and the media center at the College of Communication. Prof. Amr Ezzat, Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, expressed his appreciation to the University of Sharjah for hosting the forum. He commended the institution's efforts in fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship and emphasized the importance of Arab and regional partnerships in enhancing student engagement and connectivity. In his address to the attendees, Prof. Karim Hassan Hammam, Advisor to the Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Director of the Arab Institute for Leadership Development extended his thanks to the University, praising it as a model institution for academic excellence and development. He emphasized that the forum, and similar programs, have a huge impact as they hone the participants' leadership skills, enhance their sense of a shared Arab identity, and empower them with the appropriate tools to pursue their aspirations. Dr. Amina Al-Marzouqi, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Sharjah, described the forum as a dynamic platform for discussing the future of Arab youth. She stressed that investing in young leaders is an investment in the future, highlighting the importance of leadership, creativity, and innovation in tackling contemporary challenges. Dr. Al-Marzouqi also called for integrating entrepreneurship and leadership training into Arab university curricula through hands-on education, skill development, and institutional support. The forum featured a wide range of lectures and workshops covering topics such as essential leadership skills for personal development, entrepreneurship in the age of Artificial Intelligence, Arab national security, the role of student clubs and societies in developing leadership skills, leadership and diplomacy, and the process of turning ideas into reality. Workshops also focused on entrepreneurship and innovation in space sciences, as well as sustainability and soft skills, bridging theory with practical application for aspiring young leaders. The entertainment program also included sports activities, cultural exhibitions showcasing traditional crafts from participating Arab countries, and a special astronomical show at the Sharjah Planetarium. At the forum's conclusion, commemorative shields were exchanged between the Association of Arab Universities, the Arab Institute for Leadership Development, and the University of Sharjah. Participating students were honored with ceremonial sashes in recognition of their outstanding contributions to this prestigious event.
