Premier pays tribute to late wife's quiet strength at Sarawak Women's Day 2025
Abang Johari shares memories of his late wife at the Sarawak Women's Day 2025 celebration in Kuching. — Photo by Chimon Upon KUCHING (Aug 2): Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg paid a heartfelt tribute to his late wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma'ani Tuanku Bujang, whose quiet wisdom and graceful presence left a lasting impact on his life and leadership. Speaking at the Sarawak Women's Day 2025 celebration held at the new State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex here today, Abang Johari shared how Juma'ani, though never seeking the spotlight, played a fundamental role behind the scenes, shaping him with her subtle yet meaningful advice. 'She was never one to correct me in public. If she had something to say, she would wait until we were alone, usually in the car on the way home,' he said. He recounted one such moment that remained etched in his memory — a quiet lesson in grace and consideration during a formal dinner event. He said they were often invited to official functions, particularly dinners. On one occasion, after finishing their meal, he stood up and left, prompting others to follow suit. 'In the car, she gently told me, 'Bang (referring to Abang Johari), next time don't stand up so quickly. Look to your left and right first. We've already had our dessert, but others are just being served. When we get up, everyone else follows and they might miss their dessert. Though a small gesture, he said her words stayed with him. 'That was her character. She was quiet, but her words made you reflect. 'Ketek sikit ajak berasa you' (just a little nudge, and you feel it),' he said. He shared that it had been 40 days since her passing. During the event, Abang Johari was accompanied by his daughter, Dayang Norjihan. On June 23, 2025, corresponding to 26 Zulhijjah 1446H, Juma'ani passed away at 3.34am at Normah Medical Centre here. She was laid to rest at the Samariang Muslim Cemetery The daughter of Sarawak's second Yang di-Pertua Negeri, Tun Tuanku Bujang Tuanku Othman, Juma'ani married Abang Johari on Feb 26, 1977. Late Juma'ani Remembered For Her Loving And Gentle Nature
KUCHING, June 23 (Bernama) -- The late Puan Sri Juma'ani Tuanku Bujang, wife of Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, was fondly remembered for her loving heart and gentle demeanour. Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers of Sarawak (SABATI) deputy president Datuk Doreen Mayang said that during her time working alongside Juma'ani, who served as SABATI president, she witnessed her unwavering dedication and compassion for charitable work. 'She always offered us guidance in fulfilling our roles as the wives of elected representatives. 'She was also passionate about traditional crafts such as keringkam and songket, and contributed greatly to promoting them to the wider public,' she told reporters after paying her last respects at Masjid Jamek Negeri Sarawak here today. Meanwhile, Sarawak Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah described Juma'ani as an exemplary wife — gentle in demeanour yet steadfast in conveying guidance and counsel. 'This loss is deeply felt by everyone in the ministry, as she was actively involved in supporting programmes for women, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities (PWDs), and regularly attended the state-level Women's Day celebrations. 'We will miss her presence and personal touch at every event. We pray that her soul will be placed among the righteous and the pious,' she said.
