Some rain likely today, then back to searing heat

The state capital experienced overcast skies and 4.1 mm of rain in isolated areas, which brought down the mercury on Wednesday. Gomti Nagar, Vidhan Sabha Marg and several other areas experienced a spell of rain, which turned the weather pleasant. The maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 37.5 and 23.6 degrees Celsius. However, these weather changes may be temporary as the weathermen said all rain activity would stop on Friday, post which the mercury may spike by three to five degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, weathermen said over the next 24 hours, the city might witness partly cloudy skies giving way to mostly clear skies by the evening or night. The maximum and minimum temperatures could be around 38 and 26 degrees. Elsewhere in the state, rain/thundershower might occur at isolated places. 'Due to the influence of the western disturbance located in the form of a trough over western Uttar Pradesh as well as the trough located over eastern Uttar Pradesh in the lower troposphere, light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms (50-60 km/hr) was recorded in the central and eastern parts of the state on Wednesday,' said Atul Kumar Singh, a senior scientist at the Lucknow Met office. 'As the western disturbance moves eastward in the next 1-2 days, there is a possibility of an effective decrease in rainfall in the state with sporadic rainfall on June 5 and this phase of rain will stop from June 6, due to which there is a possibility of a gradual increase in temperature by 3-5°C,' he said. On Wednesday, the top five hottest U.P. cities were Banda 40.8 (2.7 below normal), Jhansi 39.5 (-2.9), Kanpur (IAF) 39.4, Orai 39.4 (-1.8) and Prayagraj 39.2 (minus 2.9) degrees.

Blow-hot, blow-cold weather likely to ease in Lko from Sunday

Rising day temperatures made life difficult for people across UP on Friday. However, the Met office spelt good news for Lucknow city, forecasting rain from the start of the new week. 'Lucknow will experience rain on Monday, while temperature will drop up to six degrees Celsius,' the Met office said. The state forecast for the next 24 hours is most likely dry. The Met department has issued a heat wave warning at isolated places over the state. However, the weather is likely to ease from Sunday across the state. Rain may visit Lko by weekend, till then brace for rising heat

Out of the 32 meteorological stations, day temperatures in 25 cities across Uttar Pradesh have crossed the 40-degree Celsius mark on Wednesday. The forecast for the state weather is most likely dry. The IMD has issued a warning of a heat wave very likely at isolated places over the state. Maximum and minimum temperature in the state capital on Wednesday was 41.2 and 23 degrees Celsius, respectively. However, it felt like 44 degrees, said commuters in the city. Commuters in the city were seen covering their face and head with a cloth to protect themselves from the scorching sun on Wednesday. The forecast for Lucknow for the next 24 hours is clear sky. Maximum and minimum temperature will be around 42 C and 23 C, respectively. Banda was hottest at 44 degrees Celsius; 2.8 degrees above normal. Day temperature is likely to gradually rise by around 2°C during the next 3 days and then gradually fall by 2 to 4°C thereafter. The silver lining in all this is that the Met predicted another spell of rain from April 27 (Sunday). It will originate from east UP and will move towards west UP, said Atul Kumar Singh, scientist at Lucknow Met office. Day temperature in 12 cities was in excess of 42 degrees: Kanpur (IAF) 42.8, Hamirpur 42.6, Ghazipur 42.5, Prayagraj 42.3, Varanasi (airport), Varanasi BHU, Jhansi, Moradabad, Agra and Fursatganj 42.2, Ballia and Sultanpur 42 degrees, respectively. During the last 24 hours, night temperatures fell appreciably in Ayodhya (22.5), Sultanpur (23), Kanpur City (20.6), Etawah (21), and Prayagraj (22.5), and there was no change in the remaining divisions. Night temperatures were appreciably above normal (+3.1 °C to +5°C) in Shahjahanpur (29.3), above normal (+1.6 °C to +3°C) in Gorakhpur (26) and normal (minus 1.5 °C to +1.5 °C) in the remaining divisions. The lowest minimum temperature in the state was recorded at 19 degrees Celsius in Bahraich.
