LPA, Southwest Monsoon to bring rains over Luzon
A low pressure area (LPA) and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will bring rains over parts of Luzon on Monday, according to PAGASA's weather forecast.
Ilocos Region, Abra, and Benguet will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the LPA. Moderate to heavy rains may possibly result in flash floods or landslides.
Pangasinan will have rains measuring 50 to 100 mm today, according to PAGASA's 5 a.m. heavy rainfall outlook.
The LPA was estimated to be located at 3 a.m. Monday at 85 km west northwest of Bacnotan, La Union or 255 km northwest of Baler, Aurora, according to PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina.
"Posible pa rin itong maging bagyo sa mga susunod na araw," Badrina said.
(There is a possibility it can become a tropical depression in the next few days.)
The LPA has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression in the next few days. If it does intensify into a tropical depression while inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), it will be called Auring and will be the first tropical cyclone in the country for 2025.
"Kikilos ito pakanluran papalayo sa kalupaan ng ating bansa," he said, adding it will exit PAR in the next few days.
(It will move westward away from the country's landmass.)
Badrina said the weather disturbance may affect the Southwest Monsoon.
Habagat
Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon is affecting the rest of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao today.
Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and Antique may expect occasional rains that are moderate to heavy, measuring 50 to 100 mm. Flash floods or landslides may result due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
Metro Manila, Bicol Region, and the rest of Visayas, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, and Calabarzon will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. Moderate to heavy rains may possibly result in flash floods or landslides.
Mindanao on the other hand will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may occur.
Localized thunderstorms
As for the rest of Luzon, these areas will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. Flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.
Coastal waters, sunrise, sunset
PAGASA said coastal waters will be moderate to strong in the western sections of Southern Luzon and Visayas, and slight to moderate in the rest of the country.
Sunrise was at 5:26 a.m. while sunset will be at 6:25 p.m. —KG, GMA Integrated News
