Second rape complaint against spa owner, associates in Vastrapur

Ahmedabad: A 22-year-old woman lodged a rape complaint with Vastrapur police on Thursday against a spa owner and his two associates. This marks the second such case against the same trio within a week. The complainant, who is from Madhya Pradesh, alleged that she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by the spa owner and his manager between Jan and March while working as a therapist at a spa near Vastrapur Lake. She also accused the third associate of threatening her with gang rape if she continued working at the spa or pursued legal action. In her statement before Vastrapur police, the woman said she was initially raped by the manager in Jan after being called to a room under the pretext of a job discussion. She further alleged that the spa owner assaulted her in a similar manner in Feb when she refused to give him a massage. According to her, the sexual assaults continued until March, and she was later fired and physically removed from the premises when she demanded Rs 1.45 lakh which she had given to the manager for safekeeping, according to the complaint. Devotion knows no bounds, young kanwariyas brave 120km journey

1 2 Prayagraj: Madhav and his three friends, all SSC aspirants from Bharwari in Kaushambi district, embarked on the Kanwar Yatra on Sunday to offer Jalabhishek to Lord Shiva at Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi. They began their journey from Dashaswamedh Ghat, where they collected holy water from the Ganga on Sunday. With strong devotion to Lord Shiva, they believe their faith will guide them in their competitive exam preparations. The group is currently participating in the Shrawan month festivities, seeking blessings for their future endeavours. The trio, aged 20, will undertake a 120km barefoot journey to offer Jalabhishek at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, embracing the traditional kanwariya pilgrimage. With unwavering devotion, they'll walk alongside other Kanwariyas , immersing themselves in the spiritual fervour of the Shrawan month. For these young SSC aspirants, this pilgrimage is a testament to their faith and a chance to seek divine blessings. On Sunday, scores of groups of kanwariyas left Sangam after fetching holy Ganga water and moved straight towards Kashi for their pilgrimage. Twenty-four-year-old Ashok, a kanwariya from Pratapgarh, said, "Once you determine your will, you experience divine power to complete your Kanwar Yatra, as Lord Shiva gives inner strength to reach your destination." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Insurance Company Hopes You NEVER See This Page – Here's Why AutoTrends Undo He said, "Apart from pursuing our graduation, I, along with my five friends of the same age group, decided to go for Kanwar Yatra for the third time to get our wishes fulfilled... We will cover the long distance with full devotion towards our beloved deity." Young kanwariyas from rural areas are enthusiastically participating in their first pilgrimage, drawn by the reputation and respect accorded to those who undertake the Kanwar Yatra. With energy and devotion, they're embarking on this spiritual journey to Kashi and Padila Mahadev, carrying holy water from the Ganga. This experience is not only a testament to their faith but also a chance to connect with their community's traditions. Rahul, another young kanwariya, said, "Before leaving for Kanwar Yatra, we learnt the basics of the holy journey from our elders and decided to follow the same path." "I was 17 when I first became part of Kanwar Yatra with my cousin. I still have fresh memories of the first Kanwar Yatra, and we are forming groups every year for the pilgrimage," he added. Police officials overseeing security at Daraganj and nearby ghats report a significant influx of kanwariyas, predominantly aged 18-30, arriving to collect holy water from the Ganga. The number of pilgrims is expected to swell in the coming days as more devotees from across the state join the Kanwar Yatra. Authorities are gearing up to ensure a smooth and safe experience for the kanwariyas.

1 vehicle stolen daily; recovery is only 26.6% in Panchkula

1 2 Panchkula: Approximately one motor vehicle is stolen daily on an average in Panchkula. What is worse is that of the total stolen vehicles, only about 26.64% of them were recovered, according to the vehicle lifting and recovery data of the last five years. According to the latest data provided by Panchkula Police, a total of 1,520 vehicle thefts were reported from 2021 through April 2025 (0.96 vehicles per day), with 405 vehicles recovered, yielding an overall recovery rate of 26.64%. In 2021, 266 vehicles were reported stolen. This number surged to 409 in 2022 — the highest in the five-year period. Although thefts slightly dropped to 357 in 2023 and 346 in 2024, the first four months of 2025 have already recorded 142 cases, putting the year on track to exceed 420 thefts if the trend continues — a potential five-year high. Year-by-year analysis reveals a decline in recovery efficiency in recent years. While the local police managed to recover 30.45% of stolen vehicles in 2021, and slightly more in 2022 (30.56%), the following years show a steady decline. The recovery rate dropped to 26.34% in 2023, then sharply down to 20.52% in 2024. Early 2025 figures show a slight improvement at 23.94%, but still far below the early years. The data points to a need for enhanced vehicle tracking, faster response protocols, and public awareness campaigns to improve recovery outcomes. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If You Haven't Switched Car Insurance in 2024, You're Losing Money AutoTrends Learn More Undo Nirmal Singh, inspector crime branch, Panchkula Police, told TOI that earlier, gangs used to operate, so at one point of arrest, even 40 to 50 vehicles used to get recovered. Now, vehicle lifting has shifted to individuals, who are mostly doing it for drugs, making the recovery of vehicles difficult. Even if a thief is caught, two to three bikes get recovered. Mostly, such thieves take out the body parts and sell them to scrap dealers. The police last week directed all scrap dealers not to buy stolen items, else action will be taken against them. The police have also appealed to people to check all documents while buying a second-hand vehicle to ensure it is not a stolen one. The police said mostly two-wheelers, particularly Activas, are stolen in Panchkula. Most such thefts take place at Yavnika Garden, Sector 5. It has three gates and three open parking lots, making it an easy spot for vehicle lifters. The civil hospital area is another vulnerable area. Many people who park outside the hospital are at more risk. Other open unmanned parking lots are also easy targets for vehicle lifters. The hot spots for vehicle lifting are Yavnika Garden, Sector 5, civil hospital, Sector 6, and other open unmanned parking lots | Year | Thefts | Recoveries | I 2025 (up to Apr 30) | 142 | 34 | | 2024 | 346 | 71 | | 2023 | 357 | 94 | | 2022 | 409 | 125 | | 2021 | 266 | 81 | Total: 1520; 405

Elon Musk says Tesla's driverless robotaxi service to 'tentatively' launch in Austin on June 22

Elon Musk says Tesla is "tentatively" set to begin providing robotaxi service in Austin, Texas, on June 22. In a post on his X social media platform, Musk said the date could change because Tesla is "being super paranoid about safety." Investors, Wall Street analysts and Tesla enthusiasts have been anticipating the rollout of the driverless cabs since Musk said earlier this year that the service would launch in Austin sometime in June. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Secret Discounts Car Insurers Don't Want You to Know AutoTrends Last month, Musk told CNBC that the taxis will be remotely monitored at first and "geofenced" to certain areas of the city deemed the safest to navigate. He said he expected to initially run 10 or so taxis, increase that number rapidly and start offering the service in Los Angeles, San Antonio, San Francisco and other cities. Musk has been promising fully autonomous, self-driving vehicles "next year" for a decade, but the pressure is on now as Tesla actually begins to operate a self-driving taxi service. Sales of Tesla's electric vehicles have sagged due to increased competition, the retooling of its most popular car, the Model Y, and the fallout from Musk's turn to politics. Live Events The Austin rollout also comes after Musk had a public blowup with President Donald Trump over the administration's tax bill. Some analysts have expressed concern that Trump could retaliate by encouraging federal safety regulators to to step in at any sign of trouble for the robotaxis.

"Will not turn the other cheek" Shashi Tharoor reaffirms India's firm stance on countering terrorism

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor , who is leading multi-party delegation to Panama, on Wednesday (local time) reaffirmed India's firm stance against terrorism and said that the country will not turn the other cheek and will respond to any further attack. Speaking at an event organised by the Indian Embassy, Tharoor emphasised the teaching of Mahatma Gandhi to live without fear. "He (Mahatma Gandhi) also taught us in his brave leadership in our struggle for freedom that we must always stand up for our rights. We must always stand up in principle for the values we believe in, and we must live without fear that freedom from fear is what we in India have to fight for these days against the evil attacks of malign men who are called by the world as terrorists, but who believe that by doing this kind of thing of coming into our country, killing innocent people and going off again that they will somehow achieve some larger political or religious cause," Tharoor said. Further speaking about Operation Sindoor , Tharoor criticised the Pakistan Army for giving a funeral to terrorists killed during India's operation. Live Events "When we struck the terror headquarters, we took some lives, and of course a funeral was conducted. There were some very prominent people at that funeral. There was at least one individual whose name had been listed by the United Nations Sanctions Committee. It was people in uniform from the highest threat echelons of the PakistArmy and police mourning at the funeral of designated terrorists. This is the country that now says we are innocent. We did not do it. You do not mourn for people you do not know," Tharoor said. Tharoor stressed the motives behind the Pahalgam terror attack , stating that it was to undermine India and to undermine the economy of Jammu and Kashmir. "This terrorist action was in pursuance of a cynical set of objectives that sadly only the Pakistani military seems to want to pursue to undermine our country, to undermine the Kashmiri economy, which was booming with tourism... I was told by my friend, the Indian Ambassador to Washington, that there were more tourists in this place in Kashmir in Pahalgam than in Aspen, Colorado," Tharoor said. Earlier in the day, Shashi Tharoor-led delegation on Wednesday (local time) met with the President of the Republic of Panama, Jose Raul Mulino, at the Presidential house. The delegation led by Tharoor includes Shambhavi Chaudhary (Lok Janshakti Party), Sarfaraz Ahmed (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), G M Harish Balayagi (Telugu Desam Party), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejaswi Surya, Bhubaneswar Kalita (all from BJP), Mallikarjun Devda (Shiv Sena), former Indian Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora.
