James Cameron Teases Plans for Avatar 4, 5 And Maybe Even...

James Cameron has confirmed he is ready to take on more Avatar films. The Oscar-winning director is moving forward with Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, both of which are fully written and already dated for release. Speaking to Empire ahead of his 71st birthday, Cameron said, 'I'm healthy, I'm good to go. I'm not going to rule it out...I might not be able to do that…[but] if I can, I'll just do it.' The Avatar franchise, which began in 2009, remains Cameron's primary focus despite his busy schedule. The next installment, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is set to release on December 19, 2025, with Avatar 4 coming on December 21, 2029, and Avatar 5 following on December 19, 2031. Scripts are ready through Avatar 5 James Cameron confirmed that the scripts for the Avatar series are complete up to the fifth installment. He also shared that he already has 'ideas for six and seven,' but he likely won't direct those. 'I'll probably be handing the baton on at that point. Mortality catches up,' Cameron said. He acknowledged that directing more Avatar films would require stamina and dedication. 'It's six or seven years of hard work,' he admitted, adding that while he's committed for now, the long-term plan might involve passing the story to another director. Here's what Cameron said about working on new films While some fans hope he'll move on to different stories, Cameron explained why he continues with Avatar. 'Why did [George] Lucas keep working in the same thing? Why did [Gene] Roddenberry keep working in the same thing? Because when you connect with people, why would you squander that?' Still, Cameron is not only focused on Avatar. He is also developing other films, including Ghosts of Hiroshima and The Devils. Speaking to Discussing Film, Cameron called Ghosts of Hiroshima 'the most challenging film I ever make.' He added, 'I might not even be up to the task, but that never stopped me before.'

James Cameron opens up about directing the next few Avatar films: ‘I'm not going to rule it out...'

If you thought three Avatar films were plenty, James Cameron has other plans. The Oscar-winning director has confirmed he's ready to take on at least two more sequels, with Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 firmly in his sights. Speaking to Empire ahead of his 71st birthday, Cameron said, 'I'm healthy, I'm good to go. I'm not going to rule it out... I might not be able to do that… [but] if I can, I'll just do it.' James Cameron He acknowledged that directing these films will require energy and stamina over the next 'six or seven years,' but for now, the plan is to stay at the helm of the franchise he launched back in 2009. Cameron also confirmed that the films are already fully written through to the fifth instalment, adding, 'I've got ideas for six and seven, although I'll probably be handing the baton on at that point. Mortality catches up.' While his schedule is stacked — he's also attached to adaptations of Ghost of Hiroshima and The Devils — it's clear that Avatar remains his core focus. However, Cameron does not plan to direct Avatar 6 or 7 himself, despite having already 'cracked' their storylines. For fans who wish Cameron would take on new cinematic worlds, the director had a clear response: 'Why did [George] Lucas keep working in the same thing? Why did [Gene] Roddenberry keep working in the same thing? Because when you connect with people, why would you squander that?' As for what's next, the release calendar is already packed. Avatar: Fire and Ash (previously slated for 2024) will now release on Dec. 19, 2025, followed by Avatar 4 on Dec. 21, 2029, and Avatar 5 on Dec. 19, 2031. If things go as planned, the final film could hit screens 22 years after the original changed moviegoing forever.

Cameron intends to direct fourth, fifth Avatar movies

James Cameron is "good to go" when it comes to directing Avatar 4 and Avatar 5. The 70-year-old filmmaker has helmed the third movie in the epic sci-fi franchise Avatar: Fire and Ash – which will be released in December – and plans to be behind the camera for the next two pictures, which are scheduled to hit cinemas in 2029 and 2031 respectively. Speaking to Empire magazine, Cameron said: "I mean, there's no reason not to. "I'm healthy, I'm good to go. I'm not going to rule it out. I mean, I've got to make it in a vigorous way, to handle the kind of volume and energy of the work for another six or seven years. You know what I mean? I might not be able to do that... (but) if I can, I'll just do it." The Titanic director pointed out that he has passed on his planned movies to other filmmakers in the past – as he gave the 2019 flick Alita: Battle Angel to Robert Rodriguez but remained closely involved with the picture's production. Cameron said of Rodriguez: "He honoured what I had written. We worked very collaboratively." The acclaimed filmmaker previously revealed that he does not plan to helm the sixth and seventh Avatar films, even though he does have stories in mind for them. He told People magazine: "We're fully written through movie five, and I've got ideas for six and seven, although I'll probably be handing the baton on at that point. "Mortality catches up. But I mean, we're enjoying what we're doing. We're loving it. We get to work with great people." Cameron revealed earlier this year that he feels "pretty good" about Avatar: Fire and Ash after being thrilled by the feedback when he screened the movie for "a few selected people". The Terminator director told Stuff: "I've shown it to a few selected people and the feedback has been ... it's definitely the most emotional and maybe the best of the three so far. "We'll find out, you know, but I feel pretty good about it." The new movie features a cast that includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver and Cameron was very impressed with the efforts of the stars. He said: "The work is exceptional from the actors. It's pretty heart-wrenching in a good way." The original Avatar film became the highest-grossing movie of all time when it was released in 2009. James Cameron Affirms Commitment to Directing Avatar 4 & 5 as He Turns 71 Years Old: "I'm Good to Go" and "There's No Reason Not" to Do It

Yara Sameh James Cameron affirmed in a new interview with Empire magazine that he's 'good to go' when it comes to directing 'Avatar 4″ and 'Avatar 5.' The third 'Avatar' movie, officially titled 'Avatar: Fire and Ash,' opens in theaters later this year. Cameron originally cast doubt on his 'Avatar' directing future, telling Empire in 2022 that helming the franchise is 'all-consuming' and he might want to 'pass the baton' to another director starting with 'Avatar 4.' But that's no longer the case with the Oscar winner. 'I mean, there's no reason not to,' Cameron said ahead of his 71st birthday in August about directing more 'Avatar' sequels himself. 'I'm healthy, I'm good to go. I'm not going to rule it out. I mean, I've got to make it in a vigorous way, to handle the kind of volume and energy of the work for another six or seven years. You know what I mean? I might not be able to do that… [but] if I can, I'll just do it.' Cameron noted that he already has a history of passing off his planned directorial efforts to other filmmakers, most notably giving 'Alita: Battle Angel' to Robert Rodriguez. The filmmaker was still closely involved with the film's production, he just wasn't physically in the director's chair. 'He honored what I had written. We worked very collaboratively,' Cameron said about Rodriguez. But Cameron's plan for now is to direct 'Avatar 4' and 'Avatar 5' himself, even with other non-'Avatar' projects taking shape. The filmmaker is attached to adaptations of the books 'Ghost of Hiroshima' and 'The Devils,' which could also impact his ability to direct more 'Avatar' sequels. Two movies Cameron doesn't plan on helming are 'Avatar 6' and 'Avatar 7,' although he told People magazine that he's cracked ideas for both. 'We're fully written through movie five, and I've got ideas for six and seven, although I'll probably be handing the baton on at that point,' Cameron said. 'Mortality catches up. But I mean, we're enjoying what we're doing. We're loving it. We get to work with great people.' For fans unhappy that Cameron's career is dominated by the 'Avatar' franchise, the director had this response at the time: 'People are always asking us, 'So why did you just keep working in the same…' Why did [George] Lucas keep working in the same thing? Why did [Gene] Roddenberry keep working in the same thing? Because when you connect with people, why would you squander that? Why would you start over with something else that might not connect?'. 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' was originally going to arrive in 2024, but Disney delayed it to December 19, 2025. 'Avatar 4' is on track for December 21, 2029, followed by 'Avatar 5' on December 19, 2031. Based on this timeline, the alleged final 'Avatar' movie will premiere 22 years after the original 2009 blockbuster. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani Sports Get to Know 2025 WWE Evolution Results

James Cameron, 70, Wants To Direct Avatar 4 And 5 Himself: ‘I'm Good To Go'

The Titanic director pointed out that he has passed on his planned movies to other filmmakers in the past, but he feels healthy enough to take on Avatar 4 and 5. The director said: 'I had to think long and hard whether I even wanted to make another Avatar film, because it was kind of ours to lose. When you've done something that's been that transcendent in terms of success, do you really want to go try and do that again? There's a lot of pressure on it.
