James Cameron, 70, Wants To Direct Avatar 4 And 5 Himself: ‘I'm Good To Go'
James Cameron is 'good to go" when it comes to directing Avatar 4 and Avatar 5. The 70-year-old filmmaker has helmed the third movie in the epic sci-fi franchise Avatar: Fire and Ash – which will be released in December – and plans to be behind the camera for the next two pictures, which are scheduled to hit cinemas in 2029 and 2031, respectively.
Speaking to Empire magazine, James said: 'I mean, there's no reason not to. I'm healthy, I'm good to go. I'm not going to rule it out. I mean, I've got to make it in a vigorous way, to handle the kind of volume and energy of the work for another six or seven years. You know what I mean? I might not be able to do that… (but) if I can, I'll just do it."
The Titanic director pointed out that he has passed on his planned movies to other filmmakers in the past – as he gave the 2019 flick Alita: Battle Angel to Robert Rodriguez but remained closely involved with the picture's production. Cameron said of Rodriguez: 'He honoured what I had written. We worked very collaboratively."
The acclaimed filmmaker previously revealed that he does not plan to helm the sixth and seventh Avatar films, even though he does have stories in mind for them. He told People magazine: 'We're fully written through movie five, and I've got ideas for six and seven, although I'll probably be handing the baton on at that point. Mortality catches up. But I mean, we're enjoying what we're doing. We're loving it. We get to work with great people."
James revealed earlier this year that he feels 'pretty good" about Avatar: Fire and Ash after being thrilled by the feedback when he screened the movie for 'a few selected people". The Terminator director told Stuff: 'I've shown it to a few selected people and the feedback has been … it's definitely the most emotional and maybe the best of the three so far. We'll find out, you know, but I feel pretty good about it."
The new movie features a cast that includes Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Sigourney Weaver, and Cameron was very impressed with the efforts of the stars. He said: 'The work is exceptional from the actors. It's pretty heart-wrenching in a good way."
The original Avatar film became the highest-grossing movie of all time when it was released back in 2009, and Cameron admitted that he was hesitant to make sequels as he didn't want to spoil what he had achieved. The director said: 'I had to think long and hard whether I even wanted to make another Avatar film, because it was kind of ours to lose. When you've done something that's been that transcendent in terms of success, do you really want to go try and do that again? There's a lot of pressure on it. I thought about it for a good two years before we finally made a deal."

Sharon Stone Was 'Frustrated' With Rubber Knives in Nobody 2: 'Throw Real…'
Last Updated: Sharon Stone, 67, returns in Nobody 2 as antagonist Lendina, frustrated with rubber knives. After a 2001 stroke, she doubted herself but was convinced by her kids and Bob Odenkirk. Sharon Stone got 'frustrated" throwing rubber knives in Nobody 2. The 67-year-old actress features in the upcoming action sequel as antagonist Lendina and demanded that real knives be used in the scenes to make things more authentic. Sharon told Empire magazine: 'I've been in the action-movie business for a really long time. I was getting really frustrated because the stunt team was having me throw a bunch of f****** rubber knives. If you're going to throw knives, throw real knives." Sharon had not appeared in an action movie since suffering a life-threatening stroke in 2001 and admits that she had doubts about whether she could return to the genre after being approached for a role in the film alongside Bob Odenkirk. The Basic Instinct star said: 'Twenty years ago or so I had a stroke. And I started over, and I haven't done an action movie since then. I literally did not know, 'Do I still have it in me? Am I going to be able to come in here and make people believe that I can be this ass-kicking hyper-villain?'" Sharon was convinced to sign up for the sequel after watching the original 2021 flick Nobody with her kids – adopted sons Roan, 25, Laird, 20, and Quinn, 19 – and explained that they were thrilled when she accepted the part. The Total Recall star said: 'When I was up for it, my kids were out of my minds." She also relished the opportunity to collaborate with Better Call Saul star Odenkirk. Stone said: 'He's a good guy. I love the work, Odenkirk loves his work. He's like (Robert) De Niro, working to work better." Bob also enjoyed the experience and is now planning to work together with her on another film. The 62-year-old star said: 'We're trying to think of another movie we can do together. I have an idea that I've been kicking around. A very low-key comedy." The idea to cast Sharon as the villain came about as Odenkirk wants the Nobody franchise to become a 'fantasy" in a similar way to the James Bond films. He said: 'I want it to become a fantasy. I want it to become James Bond, and I want the villain to be as big and colourful and unreal as a James Bond villain." Odenkirk suffered a heart attack while filming Better Call Saul in 2021 but insists that reprising his role as ex-government assassin Hutch Mansell did not pose a health risk. He explained: 'There's almost no scarring on my heart after all that. And the reason is, according to the nurse and my cardio doctor, is that these other veins that feed your heart were somewhat enlarged. They're bigger than you normally see, and that was because of the two-and-a-half years of training for Nobody. I can work out. I do two a day when I'm training for the movie." view comments First Published: August 04, 2025, 19:15 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. James Cameron opens up about directing the next few Avatar films: ‘I'm not going to rule it out...'
If you thought three Avatar films were plenty, James Cameron has other plans. The Oscar-winning director has confirmed he's ready to take on at least two more sequels, with Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 firmly in his sights. Speaking to Empire ahead of his 71st birthday, Cameron said, 'I'm healthy, I'm good to go. I'm not going to rule it out... I might not be able to do that… [but] if I can, I'll just do it.' James Cameron He acknowledged that directing these films will require energy and stamina over the next 'six or seven years,' but for now, the plan is to stay at the helm of the franchise he launched back in 2009. Cameron also confirmed that the films are already fully written through to the fifth instalment, adding, 'I've got ideas for six and seven, although I'll probably be handing the baton on at that point. Mortality catches up.' While his schedule is stacked — he's also attached to adaptations of Ghost of Hiroshima and The Devils — it's clear that Avatar remains his core focus. However, Cameron does not plan to direct Avatar 6 or 7 himself, despite having already 'cracked' their storylines. For fans who wish Cameron would take on new cinematic worlds, the director had a clear response: 'Why did [George] Lucas keep working in the same thing? Why did [Gene] Roddenberry keep working in the same thing? Because when you connect with people, why would you squander that?' As for what's next, the release calendar is already packed. Avatar: Fire and Ash (previously slated for 2024) will now release on Dec. 19, 2025, followed by Avatar 4 on Dec. 21, 2029, and Avatar 5 on Dec. 19, 2031. If things go as planned, the final film could hit screens 22 years after the original changed moviegoing forever.

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz renew vows amidst Beckham family rift: ‘A memory just for them'
The Beckham family drama is something we are all familiar with at this point; Nicola Peltz skipping the Victoria Beckham wedding dress, the couple being MIA from multiple Beckham family birthdays, and of course, the endless rumours of cold shoulders and awkward silences. But now, Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz are flipping the script with something unexpected: a vow renewal. Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz Just three years after tying the knot in an extravagant Palm Beach wedding, Brooklyn and Nicola said 'I do' all over again on Saturday, August 2. According to People, the ceremony wasn't just about rings and romance — it was a deeply personal event meant to 'honour the love and commitment they've built together over the years, and create a memory that will stay with them forever,' said a source close to the couple. Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz's love story If you're wondering when this love story began, Brooklyn, now 26 and founder of Cloud23, started dating Nicola in late 2019. They went Instagram official in January 2020, were engaged by that July, and walked down the aisle in April 2022 at Nicola's family estate in Florida. It was a multi-day, star-studded affair with both families in attendance… but, as insiders later revealed, not without drama. Earlier this year, Brooklyn marked their third wedding anniversary by sharing throwback photos on Instagram and a sweet note that read: 'Happy 3 year anniversary, baby x I love you with all my heart x I'm so lucky I get to spend every day with you and wake up to your beautiful face every day you are my world x I love you so much, Nicola xxxxxxx.' Now, with this vow renewal, Brooklyn and Nicola seem to be doubling down on their relationship, even as family dynamics remain… complicated.
