Samsung on Tuesday, April 29, announced that it is bringing AI assistant activation through the side button on Galaxy A series. The popular feature spotted on Samsung's Galaxy S series will now be accessible to a wider user base. The latest move aligns with the South Korean smartphone giant's vision of democratising AI experiences through its devices. The new update will allow users to enjoy smarter AI experiences, such as the ability to launch Gemini, Google 's AI-powered assistant, by simply pressing and holding the side button. The company has introduced Awesome Intelligence on the Galaxy A series that comprises the Galaxy A56 5G, Galaxy A36 5G, and Galaxy A26 5G. The company claims that the upcoming update will make it easier for even more Galaxy A users to accomplish everyday tasks more efficiently with instant access to Gemini via the side button. ' Samsung and Google have been working together to deliver seamless, intuitive and meaningful AI experiences, making the latest technology more accessible for more users,' said Jay Kim, executive vice president and head of the customer experience office, mobile experience business at Samsung Electronics. 'We're excited that Galaxy A series users will now be able to activate Gemini faster and more naturally through a simple gesture that brings intelligent support into the flow of daily tasks,' he added. The Galaxy A series, which is known for its performance and value, now offers a smarter mobile experience owing to the latest update. Be it checking schedules, finding nearby restaurants or getting recommendations for birthday gifts using voice commands, Google's Gemini makes it all easier. The AI assistant is also capable of carrying out tasks across apps with just a single command, such as finding a dinner spot on Google Maps and sending an address to a friend through messages via Samsung, Google and other select third-party apps. Samsung Releases New Feature Boost To More Galaxy Phones
After making a new $180 offer to Galaxy A56 buyers, Samsung has now announced that it is rolling out more AI tools for its A-series of Galaxy phones titled 'Awesome Intelligence.' Much like fun-sized chocolates, the 'awesome' part is a bit of marketing that actually represents a smaller, lesser, version of the real thing. Awesome Intelligence is separate from Galaxy AI, with the latter offering premium generative abilities that aren't possible to less powerful hardware. The new AI toolkit is available on Galaxy A56 5G, A36 5G and A26 5G models. Beyond Circle to Search, this is the first introduction of a named, dedicated, AI suite of tools for Samsung's more budget-friendly models, with Samsung citing its hope to "democratize AI" as a motivating factor. The full suite of features focuses on automating common tasks. The heavyweight generative AI features, such as Live Translate, Note Assist, and Generative photo editing, alongside others, are missing from the new AI experience. Part of this will be down to the hardware limitations of budget phones. With that said, the most complex AI tools rely on cloud processing. It's not entirely clear if the cheaper Galaxy devices could run the generative tools considering they're mostly cloud-based. But it makes business sense for Samsung to distinguish between its premium and budget handsets. Samsung, Google and Apple have spent a lot of ad money on marketing AI as the cutting-edge premium smartphone experience. Making Galaxy AI available to sub-$500 phones, which are often heavily discounted, doesn't fit in with that high-end image—even if it is possible to extend the full suite to all modern phones thanks to cloud processing.
