Erika Jayne's estranged husband has finally learned his fate. Steve Eichner/NameFace/Sipa USA Girardi's sentencing comes nearly one year after he was found guilty of four counts of wire fraud in a Los Angeles federal court in August 2024. The former powerhouse attorney, who ran the now-closed Girardi Keese law firm, was accused of stealing more than $15 million in settlement funds from his clients from October 2010 to late 2020. Mona Shafer Edwards / BACKGRID 'Girardi sent lulling communications to the defrauded clients that, among other things, falsely denied that the settlement proceeds had been paid and falsely claimed that Girardi Keese could not pay the settlement proceeds to clients until certain purported requirements had been met,' the US Attorney's Office for the Central District of California said in a news release upon Girardi's sentencing. Advertisement 'These bogus requirements included addressing supposed tax obligations,' the office continued, 'settling bankruptcy claims, obtaining supposedly necessary authorizations from judges, and satisfying other debts.' Federal prosecutors added that Girardi, whose 1993 groundwater contamination lawsuit against Pacific Gas and Electric Co. inspired the 2000 film 'Erin Brockovich,' used his celebrity status to steal money from clients. 9 Girardi was also reportedly ordered to pay $2.3 million in restitution to his victims. Girardi's sentencing comes weeks after Jayne, who filed for divorce from the former attorney in 2020 after 21 years of marriage, broke her silence on his wire fraud conviction. 'I could have never saw this coming,' the 53-year-old 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' star said in March. 'Tom was loved, he was admired, he was accomplished. 'And you have to find the will to take baby steps until you feel more comfortable, and those baby steps might last for a long time.' Known for having residences around the world, it's now been suggested that McIlroy also owns a family home in Portugal. The Algarve, located on Portugal's southern coast, is one of Europe's top golfing destinations. According to Backgrid, McIlroy is believed to own a property in this region, situated near the beachfront and surrounded by numerous golf courses. Employees at the property have confirmed to Backgrid that it belongs to McIlroy. It's also been claimed that a vehicle owned by the five-time major winner is parked outside the house throughout the year. Following a tough defeat to DeChambeau at last year's U.S. Open, McIlroy whisked his family away to the Algarve for a much-needed break from the competitive scene. He then took a four-week hiatus before making a comeback at the Scottish Open in July. This time, however, McIlroy emerged victorious from his final round showdown with DeChambeau. After skipping the RBC Heritage for a week's rest, he's gearing up to rejoin the PGA Tour this week. He'll be teaming up with Shane Lowry as they aim to retain their crown at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. "It's a dream come true. I have dreamt about that moment for as long as I can remember," McIlroy said at Augusta of his victory. "I mentioned it out in the prize ceremony, but watching Tiger (Woods) here in 1997 do what he did, and then winning his first green jacket, I think that inspired so many of my generation to want to emulate what he did. You know, there were points in my career where I didn't know if I would have this nice garment over my shoulders, but I didn't make it easy today. "I certainly didn't make it easy. I was nervous. It was one of the toughest days I've ever had on the golf course... It's been 14 long years, but thankfully, I got the job done." McIlroy and Erica Stoll have been married since 2017 (Image: Getty Images) Golfing legends have been lining up to congratulate McIlroy on his Masters win, including the great Tiger Woods. "Welcome to the club Rory McIlroy ," Woods posted on X. "Completing the Grand Slam at Augusta is something special. Your determination during this round, and this entire journey has shown through, and now you're a part of history. Proud of you!" Phil Mickelson also took to X to praise McIlroy, saying: "What an incredible Masters. Congrats to Rory on his win and for completing the career grand slam. Amazing." Gary Player, meanwhile, expressed his admiration for McIlroy's achievement, writing on X: "I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Rory McIlroy on his historic win at the Masters and completion of the career Grand Slam. The drama of today capped off with his playoff victory was simply meant to be. Another look at the golf course near the property (Image: BACKGRID) "I would be remiss if I didn't mention my admiration for Justin Rose, who embodies the true spirit of a gentleman in our game. This is one of the rarest and most difficult achievements in all of sport, something only now six golfers in history have ever accomplished. "We are proud to add Rory to our exclusive club and no doubt he has set the standard for his era. To win all four major championships takes unwavering perseverance and the courage to overcome adversity time and time again in the face of immeasurable pressure few have ever experienced. Rory showed true grit today and also through the entire tournament. "It was 11 years ago when Rory first started the final leg of his career Grand Slam journey. And throughout this time, he's carried himself with class, led with principle, and played with passion. "For him to finally don the Green Jacket in golf is a moment to be celebrated by fans around the world. Rory has made his mark on history, and all of us who love this game are incredibly proud. Well done, my friend. Welcome to our club."
