Fawn rescued after getting trapped in metal fence

Firefighters rescued a fawn that got stuck in a metal fence in Southampton. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said a crew helped the young deer whose hip had got stuck in the fence in Vermont Close at about 16:00 BST on 26 May. A force spokesperson said the "fawn was on the fence about which way to go" but was quickly freed after a crew used a hydraulic spreader to bend the metal. The fawn's mother was waiting nearby and the spokesperson said she had "deer-ly missed [it]" while stuck. You can follow BBC Hampshire & Isle of Wight on Facebook, X (Twitter), or Instagram. Stab victim killed in alleged drugs debt row

An 19-year-old, found fatally stabbed in an alley way in a Hampshire village, was killed in a row over a drugs debt, a court has heard. Tawana Choruma was discovered seriously injured in Station Road, Netley Abbey, on 19 December and died at the scene. Dominic Adeyemi, 18, of Holmes Close in Netley Abbey denies murder. His trial at Southampton Crown Court was told Mr Adeyemi stabbed Mr Choruma after a meeting was set up with him and his friend Jack Hibbert who owed Mr Adeyemi £600. Prosecution barrister Sarah Jones told the jury: "It was a senseless death arising from tensions caused by drugs, drug dealing and the debts people accrue." Ms Jones described how a meeting between the three man had been arranged in the Station Road area of Netley Abbey because of Mr Hibbert's debt to Mr Adeyemi. Mr Adeyemi was "pursuing his debt with tenacity and relentlessness", she told the jury. "It is clear there was considerable suspicion between the parties," she said. She said Mr Choruma was stabbed by Mr Adeyemi shortly after making a phone call at 18:21 GMT. She said Mr Choruma was left in a "dark lonely place, bleeding to death". Several passers-by, including a former nurse, administered CPR until first responders arrived. But Ms Jones said, given the extent of his injuries, there was "no chance" of saving Mr Choruma's life. A post-mortem examination showed he died from a 15cm-deep stab wound to the abdomen. A car driver in a nearby street later said she saw a man with an "intense wide-eyed hostile stare" shortly after the time of the attack, the court was told. The jury was also told that a knife was found in Mr Choruma's trousers. The trial continues. You can follow BBC Hampshire & Isle of Wight on Facebook, X (Twitter), or Instagram. Tribute paid to 'family man' who died on cruise

The family of a man whose death on a cruise ship sparked a police investigation have said he had "a heart of gold". James Messham, from Shoreham-by-Sea in West Sussex, was reported dead about two-and-a-half hours after MSC Virtuosa departed Southampton on 3 May. In a tribute to the 60-year-old his family said they are "heartbroken" and struggling with "unanswered" questions. Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary arrested a 56-year-old man from Richmond, London, on Sunday on suspicion of manslaughter. He was the second man to be arrested in relation to the death, after a 57-year-old man from Exeter, Devon, who was arrested on suspicion of murder on 5 May was released on bail. The vessel left Southampton at 18:00 BST for a two-night voyage to Bruges, Belgium, returning at 06:00 on Monday 5 May. The police have said they wanted to hear from anyone who was aboard the ship. The family of Mr Messham have issued a statement for their loved one. They said: "James was a loving father to 8 children the youngest being only 10 years old. The unbreakable bond between us will never be forgotten. He was a family man. "He was there for us all daily. He also had 10 grandchildren that he doted on. He will be very dearly missed by so many people. He had a heart of gold and would do anything to help anyone. "Our lives will never be the same without him. His wife and all us children and grandchildren are heartbroken. All of us are struggling with so many unanswered questions in relation to what happened that night aboard MSC Virtousa." His eldest daughter Charmaine Messham described her father as a "businessman" who turned his hand to many trades to provide for his family, most notable was his work as a wall of death showman for a fairground. "He was born a showman from the fairground. He travelled with a wall of death show all over the world. The show has been in the Messham family for 5 generations." The wall of death is a carnival sideshow featuring a wooden cylinder, which typically sees motorcyclists travel along the vertical wall and perform stunts. Ms Messham said her father had a "cheeky" sense of humour and that he "taught all of his children everything we know". "He was a fantastic role model," she said.
