Tom Grennan discusses friendship with Mel C after showstopping Big Weekend duet

Tom Grennan was one of the performers at the 2025 BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend festival where he took to the Main Stage - and drove fans wild when he brought out Mel C to join him Tom Grennan has opened up about his surprising friendship with Spice Girls icon Mel C. The 29-year-old Little Bit of Love singer was one of the star performers at the 2025 Radio 1 Big Weekend in Liverpool. Taking to the stage on Friday, the star, who is from Bedford, was joined by I Turn to You singer Mel, 51, where they sang together. The duo entertained the crowds by sharing anecdotes as well as singing Mel's hit song When You're Gone, which she originally performed with Bryan Adams. ‌ Tom said after his set on the Main Stage at Sefton Park: 'Mel is a good mate of mine, but she's a Scouse legend too so it just felt the perfect chance to do something a bit special together - thankfully she was up for it! ‌ 'The whole event was just a brilliant experience and getting a few mates out on stage to join me really gave it an extra bit of something on top, but doing something marking the memory of the Hillsborough victims just felt right. 'Mel is such a supporter of that cause too, she really understands what it means to local people and has been involved with raising money for the support group over the years.' Wearing a retro Everton shirt while Mel wore a 90s Liverpool kit, the pair talked movingly about 'uniting the city' with Tom later adding: 'It's a special city with an amazing history, and obviously an incredible sporting rivalry, so hopefully we managed to get the tone just right. 'There were a few bantery boos from the Everton fans when Mel came out in the retro Liverpool kit, so I ran backstage and changed into an old Everton one to redress the balance, it seemed to go down well. 'Hopefully people had a great time as well as taking a second to remember the 97 people who lost their lives as a result of the Hillsborough disaster.' Tom was also joined by local rockers The Zutons, YouTuber KSI and pal Ella Henderson. ‌ The Mirror also caught up with The Saturdays star Mollie King at the music event - with the star appearing days after her triumphant return to the air following her most recent maternity leave. 'It's so good to be back,' she told me - and said she was made up to be reunited with co-host Matt Edmonson. 'I've missed this guy. He was the first person to visit and meet the little one.' The Saturdays star welcomed her second daughter, Lilliana, with cricketer Stuart Broad in January. Telling me she's got the mum juggle down to a tee, she said: 'I've got the best of both worlds. I see my best friend in the afternoon and then my girlies, and Stuart, in the morning. To have cuddles with the girls and then do the radio show is perfect.' ‌ Mollie and Matt open day three of the festival with a DJ set - and are promising some dance moves. 'It'll be fun,' said Matt. 'There will be lots of hands in the air. Timber by Pitbull will 100% be on the list.' 'I think we should practice a little routine,' added Mollie. That will be festival high - but Matt shared one experience which hit a bum note. 'I was at Tea In The Park,' he said. 'I was on a golf buggy. There was a lattice fence and I saw a guy take a s*** against that fence. That was quite a low point. It was like one of those Playdo fun factories.'

Watch the awkward moment Natasha Bedingfield forgets the words to her own pop hit at BBCR1's Big Weekend

NATASHA Bedingfield suffered a very awkward moment as she forgot the lyrics to her own pop song at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend. The singer, 43, took to the stage to perform a selection of her best known tracks at the festival taking place in Liverpool. 3 3 But just minutes into her set on Friday, Natasha was left struggling to remember the words to her popular hit, Pocket Full of Sunshine. She started off strong but then appeared to forget the lyrics early on and then looked over to her band for support. Natasha made an awkward face and began singing "ba ba ba" before she quickly pulled it together and carried on with the chorus. Despite the slip-up, Natasha performed some a number of her other huge tracks including Unwritten. The songstress looked sensational in a lace see-through bodysuit and a black longline jacket. A string of famous musicians will also take to the stage over the next few days. Tom Grennan, Katy B, Biffy Clyro, Nia Archives, The Wombats and a host of famous faces have joined the line-up for BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend 2025, kicking off the three-day music spectacular. The British artist now lives in America with her husband Matt Robinson, 46, and their son Solomon, seven. In 2023, The Sun exclusively told how the These Words songstress would return to her music roots after splitting with her record label. She was the first to tell us: "I am always writing and working on new music. "I asked to get out of my label deal because I felt pressure to write a certain type of music and I want to write music for the creativity and the fun. I am returning to my original love of music. Natasha Bedingfield looks incredible as she flashes rock-hard abs in sheer dress on red carpet "You can view making music in so many ways. "As a product, as content or as art. Being an artist is like being a chef. You love creating something special but then with success and demand, it can hurt your artistry or creativity. "I want my music to mean something and say something and not just write music to have a hit single." Singing siblings Meanwhile, fans recently realised that Natasha and popstar Daniel Bedingfield are related. The revelation came after a TikTok clip of Natasha went viral. She filmed herself in the back of a taxi asking the driver to "turn up" the music playing on the radio - which turned out to be her older brother Daniel's slushy song If You're Not The One. He is two years older than his popstar sibling. She told him: "This is my favourite song. Can you turn it up? That's my brother, that's my brother singing." The taxi driver appeared to ignore her, with Natasha telling the camera: "He can't hear, he's on his phone. If only he knew." He found fame in 2001 with his hit Gotta Get Thru This - and is soon set to make a music comeback. He fronted a new tour back in April, 20 years after his hit tracks and departure from fame following a horror accident. 3

The Darkness halt Liverpool show mid-song after seeing problem in crowd

It was a crisp, overcast evening in Liverpool City Centre, but the spring chill and the queue that snaked along the university campus couldn't dull the anticipation of hundreds of rock fans. Devotees of The Darkness, known for their eclectic metal mix of rock and roll, had turned out to see the four-piece band at Mountford Hall at the Liverpool Guild of Students for a night of thumping rhythms, impossibly high falsetto and spectacular guitar solos. After queueing for 30 minutes, I was finally in the labyrinth building where support act, 90s band Ash, was already warming up the crowd with their well-loved hits like 'Girl From Mars' and 'Shining Light'. The only problem for me was that I couldn't see. By the time The Darkness stepped out, I had been able to shuffle forward a little to catch a glimmer of the band through the shoulders of the tall. Then came a set from a band that is not afraid to play just crowd-pleasing hits, reminding us all exactly what The Darkness is known for. Quickly we run through 'Rock and Roll Party Cowboy' and 'Get Your Hands Off My Woman'. The ease and confidence with which they play is testament to their musical talents and they are good fun with a catalogue of back-to-back classic rock songs that feel nostalgic even if you haven't heard them before. Steered on by energetic frontman Justin Hawkins, they rip through all the big songs from the 2003 Brit award-winning album Permission to Land, with 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love' bringing the set to a close. But mid-song, Justin paused with a problem and said: "I love you, but let's put the phones away for this one." Sensing it is going to be a special moment in the show, he said it should be "something magical" and added: "It us and you, united." Away go the phones and away we go again, from the top and it is special, the crowd love it and the band fully embrace this 20-year-old song as their showstopping end. Of course they play an epic encore with another song from their up and coming album Dreams on Toast, 'I Hate Myself'. The Darkness are still here; as they say in one of their new songs 'Walking Through Fire', they "never stopped making hit albums; it's just that no one buys them anymore". Perhaps with this pre album launch tour The Darkness are hoping to step into the limelight of chart success once again. If there was a chart for showmanship and a good time, they would easily be in for a shot at the top. Saying goodbye to the audience, Justin said they had had an amazing time and added: "And it's all because of you Liverpool, you've been f***ing amazing." The Darkness continue their UK tour throughout March, while their new album Dreams on Toast is out March 28, find out more details via their website
