Geeta Basra Reveals Harbhajan Singh Asked Yuvraj Singh For Her Number: 'He Saw My Poster…'

Last Updated: Geeta Basra may have made her debut in films with Emraan Hashmi, but it was cricketer Harbhajan Singh who quickly became the biggest twist in her life. Geeta Basra was only 21 when she entered Bollywood with Aditya Datt's 2006 film Dil Diya Hai. She reunited with Emraan Hashmi the following year in The Train. Around the same time, she crossed paths with Harbhajan Singh, who had already set his heart on marrying her. 'He was very clear. He saw my poster, and it was probably love at first sight for him. He asked Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) for my number. Obviously, Yuvi has a lot of friends," Geeta recalled in a chat with BHARTI TV. Harbhajan reached out to her soon after, though Geeta didn't reply at first. 'They'd just won the World Cup. So a couple of days later, I'd messaged, 'Well done! Congratulations!' That's it. We got in touch again. When we met, he was very clear he didn't want friendship and said, 'Tere se hi shaadi karunga'. I said, 'Shaadi?' I was only 21." The actress admitted that she was still trying to build her career and worried that being linked with a cricketer could damage her chances. 'Fifteen years ago, it was a very different time for women. Even if you were spotted with someone, your career was over. I lost out on four films because of the news that I was getting married," she shared. Despite her hesitation, Geeta eventually said yes after ten months. 'I told him the day you'd score 300 wickets, I'd say yes. A couple of days later, he got 300 wickets. So I said let's give it a shot. Because all my friends told me he's a very good guy. He's a star, but doesn't have the attitude of a star. He's humble. He's also a Punjabi like me. That matters a lot." Geeta and Harbhajan tied the knot in 2015. The actress said the decision wasn't easy as she had doubts about cultural differences and loyalty. But Harbhajan proved her wrong. 'Sometimes, we just need to know, can I spend the rest of my life with this partner? Because we're from different countries so there's a cultural difference. Then he's so known so I was wondering if he's loyal. But he's beyond that. He's a very grounded person." The couple welcomed daughter Hinaya Heer Plaha in 2016 and son Jovan Veer Singh Plaha in 2021. Geeta has stayed away from films since 2016 while Harbhajan announced his retirement from cricket. Joking about family plans, she added, 'He's very fond of kids. So am I. But it's not possible today. We've to go through a lot with pregnancy, post pregnancy." First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. Geeta Basra entered the film industry at the age of 21, debuting opposite Emraan Hashmi in Aditya Datt 's 2006 romantic thriller Dil Diya Hai. The following year, she teamed up with Hashmi again for the crime thriller The Train. Around this time, her path crossed with cricketer Harbhajan Singh , who was instantly taken by her. 'He was very clear. He saw my poster, and it was probably love at first sight for him. He asked Yuvi ( Yuvraj Singh ) for my number. Obviously, Yuvi has a lot of friends,' Basra shared, subtly referencing Yuvraj Singh's links with actors like Deepika Padukone and Kim Sharma. Harbhajan reached out to her, but Basra didn't respond at first, admitting she knew nothing about cricket or cricketers. 'They'd just won the World Cup. So a couple of days later, I'd messaged, 'Well done! Congratulations!' That's it. We got in touch again. The couple tied the knot in 2015. Looking back, Basra shared what helped her make the decision: 'Sometimes, we just need to know, can I spend the rest of my life with this partner? Because we're from different countries so there's a cultural difference. Then he's so known so I was wondering if he's loyal. Because I never wanted to marry an actor because there's a perception. Raj Kundra recalls proposing to Shilpa Shetty without asking her to leave India: 'I told her I bought a house opposite Amitabh Bachchan's'

Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra's marriage journey involved overcoming obstacles and demonstrating commitment. Kundra, initially based in London and Dubai, met Shilpa after her Big Brother win and persistently pursued her despite her busy filming schedule. Respecting Shilpa's desire to stay in India, Kundra bought a Mumbai apartment and promised to make India their home. Love often requires patience, understanding, and thoughtful choices. For Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra , their journey to marriage was full of moments that tested their commitment and showcased the lengths they were willing to go for each other. Early life and how they met Raj Kundra was born and raised in London to Punjabi parents. In 2007, he moved to Dubai to start his business, around the same time he met Shilpa Shetty in the UK. She had just won the popular reality show Big Brother season 5, and the meeting was arranged through a mutual friend who also managed her. In conversation with BHARTI TV, Kundra recalled that they connected well when they first started talking, which marked the beginning of his efforts to woo her. Growing up, he and his father had been Bollywood fans, so he was already familiar with Shilpa's films. However, getting her to agree to marriage was neither quick nor easy. Navigating Shilpa's busy schedule Kundra further said that Shilpa was busy shooting a film for about a year and a half, which left him feeling a bit impatient. At the time, it was commonly believed that a heroine's career ended once she got married. He suggested that she confirm with the producer or director whether the film would actually happen, or else he might step back. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 11 Foods That Help In Healing Knee Pain Naturally Undo Buying a home to honor her wishes Since the Bollywood actress was clear about wanting to stay in India and marry there, Kundra, who didn't own any property in the country, reached out to a real estate agent he knew. He mentioned that it didn't matter where he worked, but now that he had fallen for her, he was determined to go all out. He assured her that he would never ask her to leave India and that any trips abroad would only be for holidays, respecting her wish to stay in her home country. The businessman also tried to persuade his parents to move to Mumbai with them, but they preferred to stay in the UK, where they had lived for 55 years and had their entire circle of friends. They now visit India only for festivals like Diwali and Christmas, though Kundra keeps the door open for them if they ever decide to relocate. Shilpa's mother, Sunanda Shetty, also lives with the couple following the death of her husband, Surinder Shetty. Kundra explained that after his father-in-law passed away, he invited his mother-in-law to stay with them, ensuring she had enough space and comfort.
