Geeta Basra Reveals Harbhajan Singh Asked Yuvraj Singh For Her Number: 'He Saw My Poster…'
Geeta Basra may have made her debut in films with Emraan Hashmi, but it was cricketer Harbhajan Singh who quickly became the biggest twist in her life.
Geeta Basra was only 21 when she entered Bollywood with Aditya Datt's 2006 film Dil Diya Hai. She reunited with Emraan Hashmi the following year in The Train. Around the same time, she crossed paths with Harbhajan Singh, who had already set his heart on marrying her.
'He was very clear. He saw my poster, and it was probably love at first sight for him. He asked Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) for my number. Obviously, Yuvi has a lot of friends," Geeta recalled in a chat with BHARTI TV.
Harbhajan reached out to her soon after, though Geeta didn't reply at first. 'They'd just won the World Cup. So a couple of days later, I'd messaged, 'Well done! Congratulations!' That's it. We got in touch again. When we met, he was very clear he didn't want friendship and said, 'Tere se hi shaadi karunga'. I said, 'Shaadi?' I was only 21."
The actress admitted that she was still trying to build her career and worried that being linked with a cricketer could damage her chances. 'Fifteen years ago, it was a very different time for women. Even if you were spotted with someone, your career was over. I lost out on four films because of the news that I was getting married," she shared.
Despite her hesitation, Geeta eventually said yes after ten months. 'I told him the day you'd score 300 wickets, I'd say yes. A couple of days later, he got 300 wickets. So I said let's give it a shot. Because all my friends told me he's a very good guy. He's a star, but doesn't have the attitude of a star. He's humble. He's also a Punjabi like me. That matters a lot."
Geeta and Harbhajan tied the knot in 2015. The actress said the decision wasn't easy as she had doubts about cultural differences and loyalty. But Harbhajan proved her wrong. 'Sometimes, we just need to know, can I spend the rest of my life with this partner? Because we're from different countries so there's a cultural difference. Then he's so known so I was wondering if he's loyal. But he's beyond that. He's a very grounded person."
The couple welcomed daughter Hinaya Heer Plaha in 2016 and son Jovan Veer Singh Plaha in 2021. Geeta has stayed away from films since 2016 while Harbhajan announced his retirement from cricket. Joking about family plans, she added, 'He's very fond of kids. So am I. But it's not possible today. We've to go through a lot with pregnancy, post pregnancy."

Hundreds of historic tall ships heading for Amsterdam for maritime festival
Agency: Amsterdam, Aug 20 (AP) A flotilla of hundreds of historic ships was heading into Amsterdam on Wednesday, kicking off a five-day festival celebrating the Dutch capital's maritime history. Vessels from all over the world, their masts and rigging decorated with flags, left the North Sea coastal town of Ijmuiden to begin their hours-long journey up the North Sea Canal and into Amsterdam's Ij waterway for SAIL 2025, the first edition in a decade. A puff of orange smoke erupted into the sky and ships' horns sounded as the replica three-masted clipper Stad Amsterdam passed through a lock to mark the official start of the event. Each ship is greeted with two cannon shots and its country's national anthem as it enters the harbour. Hundreds of smaller vessels packed the waterways to watch the ships pass. The event, which draws hundreds of thousands of visitors, is held every five years. The 2020 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Wednesday's parade culminates in an evening fireworks display. The ships will remain in Amsterdam, many open for visitors, through the weekend. The first event was first held in 1975 to celebrate Amsterdam's 700th anniversary and this year's edition coincides with the city's 750th birthday.
