Alpina is back! Sort of! Meet the 603bhp, BMW M4-based Bovensiepen Zagato
Alpina is back! Sort of! Meet the 603bhp, BMW M4-based Bovensiepen Zagato Alpina's founding family returns with a powerful GT designed by Zagato Skip 20 photos in the image carousel and continue reading Turn on Javascript to see all the available pictures. 1 / 20 Meet the brand new Bovensiepen Zagato, a product of a small outfit working out of Buchloe in Bavaria. Which is in Germany. It is a powerful, 603bhp two-door GT, and it is – oh, right, the name. 'The name Bovensiepen is no stranger in the automotive industry,' said the company, 'and now it stands for a manufacturer of exceptional automobiles that embody the concept of 'fine driving'.' Advertisement - Page continues below That's right, Alpina's founding family – the Bovensiepens – have started their own company having sold that beloved name to BMW back in 2022. The first offering? A… BMW. But it is no ordinary BMW, because Bovensiepen has tasked Zagato with reshaping the BMW M4 into something quite unique, and entirely out of carbon fibre. And one that wants to bring back some of the allure of the automobile. 'As two family businesses, we still view the automobile through romantic eyes,' said Andrea Zagato. 'Today, many vehicles are highly standardised, and their romance is being lost.' To rekindle that romance, Zagato chief designer Norihiko Harada ushered in 'a kind of mixture of Italian flair, a kind of sexy and soft design, and a German, very solid, almost architectural structure'. Advertisement - Page continues below The first thing that'll strike you is Zagato's studious binning of the M4's kidney grille, replacing it with a single, streamlined intake supplemented by a pair of huge cheeks for side intakes. There are new headlights. A U-shaped vent in the bonnet. And the obligatory double-bubble roof and rear window because Zagato. The rear's been almost squared off compared to its BMW sibling, with a straighter cut bottom end where the old diffuser sat, new rear headlights, fins on either side and an elegant ducktail spoiler. The quad tailpipes are present and correct, mind. Tailipipes stuck on the end of a new lightweight Akrapovic exhaust system that cuts 40 per cent from the M4's stock exhaust weight and is said to reduce back pressure 'significantly'. That's married to a few other unlisted mods to boost the Bimmer's 3.0-litre turbo six from 523bhp to 603bhp and 516lb ft. That chops but two tenths off the M4's 0-62mph time – now 3.3s – and uncorks a top speed of beyond 186mph. Bovensiepen's bolted in Bilsten dampers offering three driving modes – comfort, sport and sport plus – and fitted 20in forged wheels. Top Gear Newsletter Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter. Success Your Email* Neither Bovensiepen nor Zagato appear to have messed with the M4's interior, but have layered it in copious amounts of leather and aluminium and blue. Naturally each car can be personalised to your heart's content. And each car will take over 250 hours to complete. How much you'll pay for such extravagance has yet to be revealed, nor how many of these will be built. But it's the start of something new for Andreas and Florian Bovensiepen. 'In the future, Bovensiepen will realize exciting automotive projects that combine precision and harmony in the form of timeless design and outstanding engineering,' said this small outfit working out of Buchloe in Bavaria. And what about Alpina? New BMW designer and ex-Polestar man Max Missoni is in charge of carving out the cult tuner's new identity. "I'm really confident that this will be an exciting journey with Alpina," Missoni told "When we dove into the brand and all its peculiarities, there were so many wonderfully whimsical things to discover, beyond the technology and performance side but also on the design and storytelling side. There are many new brands that struggle to be seen and heard because they have no history or relevance. Alpina might be small but it still creates an emotional connection."

Bovensiepen and Zagato Reveal Striking 611 HP Gran Turismo at Lake Como
Summary Bavaria meets Milan in the debut of theBovensiepenZagato, a limited-production grand tourer, based on the BMW M4, unveiled at this year's Fuori Concorso on Lake Como. The first model from the newly launched Bovensiepen brand, the Zagato pairs Italian coachbuilding with Bavarian engineering, creating what CEO Andreas Bovensiepen calls 'Fine Driving' in its purest form. The car features a 3L inline-six engine producing 611 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque, launching from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.3 seconds and reaching a top speed over 186 mph. Built on a lightweight carbon fiber body and outfitted with adaptive Bilstein dampers and forged 20-inch wheels, the Zagato combines performance with comfort in three selectable driving modes. A titanium Akrapovič exhaust delivers a sound worthy of its bold design. Zagato's design DNA is evident in the signature 'double bubble' roof, frameless windows and precise, flowing lines. Inside, buyers can personalize nearly every surface, including optional Lavalina leather upholstery and CNC-milled aluminum shift paddles. Each car requires over 250 hours to build, with more than 400 bespoke components crafted in Buchloe. At the time of writing, specifics on availability and price have not yet been revealed, however, they are expected to be shared by the end of 2025, with deliveries expected to take place in Q2 of 2026.

The Alfa Romeo 8C Is Back. But Not as You Remember It
Zagato had a busy weekend at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, where two cars penned by the Italian coachbuilder were unveiled. The fabled design house surprised just about everyone with its own take on the BMW M4, featuring a double bubble roof . Another coupe, this time based on the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, made its world premiere on the shores of Lake Como in Italy. The DoppiaCoda (Double Tail) is a one-off special project commissioned by a wealthy Italian owner. Its name refers to a combination of a Kammback and a rounded wing. Also known as a Kamm tail or K-tail, a Kammback is a design feature characterized by a gently sloped profile that ends abruptly with a vertical surface. It was pioneered by German designer and aerodynamicist Wunibald Kamm, who created the 1938 BMW Kamm Coupe. Photo by: Zagato dared to modify one of the most beautiful cars of the modern era. Whether the result surpasses Wolfgang Egger's and Daniele Gaglione's work from the 2000s is open to debate. Even after all these years, the modern 8C, conceived by Centro Stile Alfa Romeo, remains a stunning mid-engine supercar in both Coupe and Spider flavors. Much like the aforementioned M4, it wouldn't be a proper Zagato without the signature double bubble roof. Although the entire body has been reworked, it's the redesigned rear that immediately sets it apart from the standard 8C. Lessons learned from last year's Alpine A110-based project with its removable long-tail rear bumper helped Zagato reimagine the Alfa's rear. Alfa Romeo 8C Doppiacoda Zagato 8 Source: Technical specifications haven't been disclosed, which could suggest that the DoppiaCoda retains the Ferrari-derived V-8. In the standard 8C, the naturally aspirated 4.7-liter engine produced 444 horsepower and 354 pound-feet (480 Newton-meters) of torque. Power was sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission with shift paddles. The car accelerated from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.2 seconds and had a top speed of 181 mph (292 km/h). This isn't the first time Zagato has reimagined the Alfa Romeo 8C. At the same show in Italy back in 2010, it unveiled the TZ3 Corsa as a one-off for German collector Martin Kapp. That car also featured a Kammback, though it leaned more toward a 'breadvan' aesthetic. This 600-HP BMW M4 Channels Zagato Design and Alpina Performance
At first glance, the Bovensiepen Zagato may seem like just another BMW M4 Convertible. But under the skin – and all around it – is something far more exotic. It boasts the familiar firepower of BMW's twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six, now tuned to deliver an impressive 602 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. That's more oomph and grunt than the track-hardened M4 CSL. Launching from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.3 seconds and topping beyond 186 mph, it's a quick drop-top grand tourer edging into supercar territory. Helping it stick to the road is a set of Bilstein Damptronic adaptive dampers, while a featherweight titanium Akrapovič exhaust ensures it sings an appropriately operatic tune. Styled By Zagato With A Bespoke Carbon Fiber Suit Bovensiepen Zagato Bovensiepen Zagato Bovensiepen Zagato But the mechanical upgrades are only half the story. What truly sets this machine apart is its Italian suit. Almost every panel has been reworked, now draped in carbon fiber and capped with Zagato's signature double-bubble roof. The traditional BMW kidney grille has been reimagined in CNC-machined stainless steel with a honeycomb pattern. A re-sculpted trunk lid gives the rear a tasteful ducktail spoiler, while 20-inch forged aluminum wheels fill the arches with precision and poise. Step inside, and the fusion continues. The familiar BMW layout remains intact, but Bovensiepen has transformed the surfaces with bespoke craftsmanship. Lavalina leather, also used by Alpina, wraps nearly every touchpoint, and buyers can further elevate the cabin with Alcantara accents. Over 130 hours are spent perfecting the interior alone, which is offered in 16 standard colors. For those with more specific tastes, the Bovensiepen Bespoke program opens the door to tailor-made hues and finishes. Made By Alpina Founders Bovensiepen Zagato Bovensiepen Zagato Bovensiepen Zagato Though BMW stole headlines at Lake Como's Villa d'Este with its Speedtop concept and the latest M2 CS, it's this Italo-German hybrid that quietly turned heads. Bovensiepen, founded by Andreas and Florian Bovensiepen, sons of Alpina's legendary founder, marks its debut with the Zagato, a coachbuilt collaboration with the famed Italian design house bearing its name. With Alpina now under BMW's direct umbrella, Bovensiepen seems poised to carry the torch of boutique craftsmanship and exclusivity. With over 250 hours of work poured into each unit, a cabin fit for a Milan fashion house, and performance that rivals purpose-built sports cars, the Zagato will likely command a price well beyond regular BMWs. Deliveries are scheduled for the second quarter of 2026.
