Competitors and spectators had to brave icy cold weather at the Red Star Raceway near Delmas on Saturday, when the venue hosted round five of this year's Regional Extreme Festival Presented by Coca-Cola.
Those who did attend were rewarded with a day of spectacular racing, with the circuit now running anti-clockwise, as always during the second half of the season.
BMW M Performance
Top billing belonged to the BMW ///M Performance Parts brigade.
Alwyn Steenkamp arrived at Red Star with a brand new M4 and ran away to win race one of the cars in Classes A, B and C.
He was chased to the flag by Bob Neil (Delmon Mining M3), Renier Smith (Fast Development M3 Turbo) and Nek Makris (335i).
Race two had to be red-flagged after the SavSpeed 328i of Hein van der Merwe lost an oil cooler and created a large slippery line at the end of the pit straight.

After the restart the victory went to Neil, from Steenkamp, Anton Pommersham (Eagle Granite M4) and Makris.
The first race for Classes D, E and F went to Andre Scheepers van Vuuren (Curvent M4), leading home Class D points leader Bernard de Gouveia (De Gouveia Accountants M3), Eugene Gouws (Master Mowers M3) and Oleratu Sekudu (Rampage Racing M3).
Van Vuuren won race two as well, ahead of Seduku, Troy Cochran (Tyre Mart Boksburg 330i) and de Gouveia.
111 GT Sports and Saloon
The first Ferro Energia race for 111 GT Sports and Saloon Cars victory went to Phillip Meyer (Swiss Hotel School Porsche 944), followed by Wouter Roos (Origen Oil Volkswagen Golf GTI), Jonathan Visser (Auto Express Car Service Volkswagen Polo) and Jarred Rossouw (Nathan's Motorsport Volkswagen SupaPolo).

Single-seaters
Defending champion Lendl Jansen (Bull Security Rhema) took an easy victory in the opening DOE CIM Lubri Formula Vee race, followed by Gert van den Berg (DOE Parts Rhema), Peter Hills (Mangaza MXTwo Rhema) and Daine Stewart (Direction Management Forza).

V8 Supercars
Terry Wilford (Fuchs Lubricants Ford Falcon) won the first Dunlop V8 Supercar race from Warren Lombard (Pepboys Automotive Ford Mustang), Thomas Reib (Cafe 9 Automotive Chevrolet Lumina) and Auke Compaan (CIM Lubricants Ford Mustang).
Lombard pitted after the warm-up lap for race two. That left Wilford to lead for six laps before his Falcon slowed and stopped due to electronic maladies.
Reib went on to win, half a lap ahead of Compaan.
Volkswagen Challenge
Wayne Masters (Performance Masters) took the first largely Polo field Ate Volkswagen Challenge race ahead of Jayden Goosen (Ferro Energia), Ian Walker (Melllow Velo) and Mydi Mfana.

The next round of the Extreme Festival Presented by Coca-Cola will be a National event, to take place at the East London Grand Prix circuit on the weekend of Saturday 19 July.

BMW M5 Touring officially on sale in South Africa
BMW has confirmed its extra-spicy new M5 Touring is available in Mzansi. The first M5 wagon since the V10-powered E61 bowed out in 2010, the newcomer blends performance with practicality, offering a generous 500 l boot that expands to 1,630 l when the rear seatbacks are folded flat. Access is via an automatic tailgate for hassle-free loading. Buyers can also specify an optional trailer coupling which allows for a braked towing capacity of up to 2,000kg. Practicality aside, the M5 Touring delivers ethereal straight-line performance courtesy of the same M Hybrid drive system found in the M5 Sedan. This combines a 430kW/750Nm 4.4 l twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine with a 145kW/450Nm electric motor integrated into the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. Together they produce a maximum output of 535kW and 1,000Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via BMW's M xDrive all-wheel-drive system, which offers three modes: 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD. The result is a 0–100km/h sprint in 3.6 seconds, while the standard M Driver's Package raises the governed top speed from 250km/h to 305km/h. Being a plug-in hybrid, the M5 Touring also has a more frugal side, offering up to 70km of electric-only range at speeds of up to 140km/h, thanks to its 18.6kWh lithium-ion battery mounted low in the underbody. Beneath the sculpted exterior lies a chassis shared with the M5 Sedan, including a double-wishbone front axle and five-link rear axle with model-specific kinematics and elastokinematics. The Touring also adds M carbon mirror caps, a panoramic glass roof and rear sunblinds as standard, features not found on the Sedan. Ten exterior colours are offered, including M5-exclusive Isle of Man Green and Marina Bay Blue, Storm Bay and Frozen Deep Grey from the BMW Individual palette. Six interior upholstery options are available, along with a choice between M Carbon Fibre or BMW Individual Fineline Dark Oak trim. The recommended retail price for the BMW M5 Touring, including VAT and Motorplan, is R2,795,000.

Watch: BMW M3 CS Touring sets new Nürburgring lap record
The BMW M3 CS Touring has set a new lap record for wagons at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. In July 2025, BMW put the new M2 CS through its paces at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with the German automaker's most compact M car completing a lap around The Green Hell in just 7:25.5 minutes – the quickest time ever recorded in the Compact Car category. However, now, BMW has decided to see just how quick its most hardcore M3 wagon can complete a lap around the 20.8km northern loop of this revered race track. The first BMW Touring to don the 'CS' badge, the M3 CS Touring set a lap time of 7:29.490 minutes, making it the quickest wagon to ever lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Noteworthy, it bested the previous record, held by its non-CS sibling, by just over five seconds. In addition, the time set by the M3 CS Touring is just over a second shy of the M3 CS sedan's. 'From the very beginning, it was clear that the BMW M3 CS Touring would set new standards in dynamics. With a time under 7:30 minutes, this model impressively demonstrates that this vehicle concept perfectly combines racing DNA with everyday usability,' said BMW M CEO Franciscus van Meel. As a reminder, the CS-badged M3 Touring employs the same engine as its 'standard' stablemate – BMW's familiar 3l turbocharged inline-six. However, for the CS, the German marque has turned up the wick; increasing the peak power output to a healthier 405kW (up 15kW). Torque remains unchanged, with 650N.m delivered to both the fore and aft axle via via BMW's eight-speed Steptronic transmission. According to the Bavarian brand, the increase in power output, several mechanical revisions, and weight saving, the M3 CS Touring sprints to the three-figure marker from a standstill in just 3.5 seconds; an improvement of 0.1 seconds over the non-CS model. However, the CS's 11.7-second 0-200km/h time eclipses the latter car's by 1.2 seconds. In addition, the top speed has increased, from 280km/h to 300km/h.
