Watch: BMW M3 CS Touring sets new Nürburgring lap record
In July 2025, BMW put the new M2 CS through its paces at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, with the German automaker's most compact M car completing a lap around The Green Hell in just 7:25.5 minutes – the quickest time ever recorded in the Compact Car category.
However, now, BMW has decided to see just how quick its most hardcore M3 wagon can complete a lap around the 20.8km northern loop of this revered race track.
The first BMW Touring to don the 'CS' badge, the M3 CS Touring set a lap time of 7:29.490 minutes, making it the quickest wagon to ever lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Noteworthy, it bested the previous record, held by its non-CS sibling, by just over five seconds. In addition, the time set by the M3 CS Touring is just over a second shy of the M3 CS sedan's.
'From the very beginning, it was clear that the BMW M3 CS Touring would set new standards in dynamics. With a time under 7:30 minutes, this model impressively demonstrates that this vehicle concept perfectly combines racing DNA with everyday usability,' said BMW M CEO Franciscus van Meel.
As a reminder, the CS-badged M3 Touring employs the same engine as its 'standard' stablemate – BMW's familiar 3l turbocharged inline-six. However, for the CS, the German marque has turned up the wick; increasing the peak power output to a healthier 405kW (up 15kW). Torque remains unchanged, with 650N.m delivered to both the fore and aft axle via via BMW's eight-speed Steptronic transmission.
According to the Bavarian brand, the increase in power output, several mechanical revisions, and weight saving, the M3 CS Touring sprints to the three-figure marker from a standstill in just 3.5 seconds; an improvement of 0.1 seconds over the non-CS model. However, the CS's 11.7-second 0-200km/h time eclipses the latter car's by 1.2 seconds. In addition, the top speed has increased, from 280km/h to 300km/h.

Trump says to name new labour statistics chief this week
WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump said Monday that he would pick an "exceptional replacement" to his labour statistics chief, days after ordering her dismissal as a report showed weakness in the US jobs market. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump reiterated -- without providing evidence -- that Friday's employment report "was rigged." He alleged that commissioner of labour statistics Erika McEntarfer had manipulated data to diminish his administration's accomplishments, drawing sharp criticism from economists and a professional association. "We'll be announcing a new (labor) statistician some time over the next three-four days," Trump told reporters Sunday. He added Monday: "I will pick an exceptional replacement." US job growth missed expectations in July, figures from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed, and sharp revisions to hiring figures in recent months brought them to the weakest levels since the Covid-19 pandemic. Trump ordered the removal of McEntarfer hours after the figures were published. "We had no confidence. I mean the numbers were ridiculous," Trump told reporters Sunday. He charged that McEntarfer came up with "phenomenal" numbers on his predecessor Joe Biden's economy before the 2024 election. HIRING SLOWDOWN Even as he called for more reliable data Monday, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett conceded that the jobs market was indeed cooling. But Hassett maintained in a CNBC interview that this softening did not reflect the incoming effects of Trump's flagship tax and spending legislation -- signed into law early last month. US employment data point to challenges as companies took a cautious approach in hiring and investment while grappling with Trump's sweeping -- and rapidly changing -- tariffs this year. The United States added 73,000 jobs in July, while the unemployment rate rose to 4.2 percent, the Department of Labor reported. Hiring numbers for May were revised down from 144,000 to 19,000. The figure for June was shifted from 147,000 to 14,000. These were notably lower than job creation levels in recent years. During the pandemic, the economy lost jobs. Over the weekend, Hassett defended McEntarfer's firing in an NBC News interview: "The president wants his own people there so that when we see the numbers they are more transparent and more reliable." But Trump's decision has come under fire. William Beach, who previously held McEntarfer's post, said the move set a "dangerous precedent." The National Association for Business Economics condemned her dismissal, saying large revisions in jobs numbers "reflect not manipulation, but rather the dwindling resources afforded to statistical agencies." German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil on Monday emphasized the importance of supporting "independent, neutral and proven institutions." He said: "It is right that independent institutions remain independent and that politics do not interfere with them." McEntarfer, a labor economist, was confirmed to the commissioner role in January 2024.

2025 Nissan Magnite scores upgraded safety rating
Introduced to the South African market in June 2021, the pre-facelifted current-generation Nissan Magnite only managed to score two stars at the Global New Car Assessment Programme (GNCAP). However, the updated model, which made local landfall in October 2024, has now improved on the original safety rating; upgrading to a GNCAP safety rating of five stars overall. The India-built crossover was awarded five stars for Adult Occupant Protection and three stars for Child Occupant Protection; accumulating in the overall five-star score. 'This significant milestone further cements the Magnite as a safety and engineering leader within the sub-R400k compact-SUV space. Our engineers achieved an incredible feat, raising the Magnite from a two-star to five-star safety rating in a remarkably short timeframe,' said Maciej Klenkiewicz, the managing director of Nissan South Africa and independent markets. Richard Woods, the CEO of GNCAP, added: 'It's very welcome to see Nissan's focus on improving the Magnite's safety performance. The five-star rating is relevant to consumers in South Africa and India, and it demonstrates what can be achieved in a relatively short period of time when a manufacturer is fully committed to engage in the NCAP process.' The most affordable compact SUV in South Africa, the Magnite is equipped with such safety items as six airbags, ABS, electronic brake-force distribution, electronic stability control, traction control and hill start assist, among others. As a reminder, locally, the Magnite is available with the choice of two 1l, three-cylinder engines – one naturally aspirated and the other, turbocharged. The former and latter units produce 53kW/96Nm and 74kW/152Nm, respectively, and have respective claimed average fuel consumption figures of 5.9l/100km and 6.0l/100km.
