Forrester moves to St Johnstone on loan
Adam Forrester, Hearts' 20-year-old defender, is on the move. The club have entered into a co-operation agreement with Championship outfit, St Johnstone. It's the Gorgie club's second co-operation link after B Team centre-back and captain, Kenzi Nair, signed for Scottish League Two side, Spartans. The initiative allows Premiership clubs to partner with one team in each of the three Scottish Professional Football League tiers below the top flight. Simo Valakari's Perth side are targeting an immediate return to the top flight after their relegation last term and Forrester is on loan for the rest of the season. Derek McInnes, Hearts' head coach, hopes right-back Forrester receives valuable game-time and he added: 'It is crucial for him to keep developing and improving.' Here are some of the latest headlines when it comes to Hearts. Fan favourite leaves latest club Michael Smith is on the hunt for a new club after leaving Yeovil Town. The now 36-year-old spent six years in Gorgie and impressed fans with his consistency, playing 203 times before a departure two years ago. He's made 56 appearances for Yeovil and has now left the non league club down south. He said 'My time at Yeovil Town has come to an end, thanks for everything over the last 2 years, and good luck for the future' when it came to his exit.' A club statement read: 'As the Glovers look ahead to the 2025/26 campaign, the club can confirm the following contract statuses. Yeovil Town would like to place on record its thanks to all departing players for their efforts and contributions during their time at Huish Park, and we wish them the very best for the future. Further updates on the squad and preparations for the new season will follow in due course.' Hearts hand out new contract B Team head coach Angus Beith has challenged Gregor Burn to seize his chance after signing a new one year deal. The 17-year-old made his B Team debut in the season against Gretna 2008 and went on to make 8 appearances. Burn has been a regular in David McNeil's U18s side and adjusted well in stepping up to B Team football in the Lowland League. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Beith said: 'It's great news that Gregor has chosen to remain at the club. He was a regular for the U18s last season, barely missing a game or training session, and also got some exposure to the B Team environment. When Gregor is focused, the coaches see an excellent young full back, with lots of potential, but our challenge to Gregor is to see it more consistently, in order to realise that potential. All the coaches are looking forward to supporting and challenging Gregor to help him achieve that goal.' Former Hearts striker leaves St Johnstone Andy Kirk has departed his role as a coach at St Johnstone. He was brought to Perth by ex Hearts manager Craig Levein and stayed when he was sacked to work under Simo Valakari, now making his own exit following their relegation out the Premiership. Kirk was at Hearts as a striker between 1999-2004 then in multiple roles behind the scenes post-retirement, a coach and First Team Manager and Girls' Academy Manager of Hearts Women. Alex Cleland also departs St Johnstone. A statement reads: 'The club can confirm that there will be a restructuring of the football department as we look ahead to the 2025/26 season. Assistant manager Andy Kirk and first team coach Alex Cleland both depart. We thank them greatly for all of their contributions. Andy arrived at McDiarmid Park as assistant to Craig Levein in November 2023 and, during his time with us, also took on the role of interim manager. He operated with professionalism throughout, and we wish him all the very best for the future. We will provide supporters with a further update in due course.'

How Bolton Wanderers have laid 'solid' foundations to build from
Wanderers' Chief Financial Officer Niaz Shazad believes the club has laid solid foundations to build from. Shazad joined from the City Football Group last September and has also served as interim co-Chief Executive Officer following Neil Hart's departure. 'The club's resurgence since the FVWL (Football Ventures) acquisition in 2019 culminated in record-breaking turnover in 2023/24 which speaks volumes about the jobs" target="_blank">work that's gone into rebuilding Bolton post-administration,' he told Football Business Journal. 'From a financial and operational standpoint, the foundations are sound and with the support and backing of the board, will only get stronger.' Shazad added: 'Scalability now depends on our ability to evolve this model. We are not just trying to grow for growth's sake – we're aiming for smart, sustainable growth. 'That means investing further in data infrastructure, improving talent pathways from Academy to first team, and forming strategic partnerships both locally and internationally.' The campaign didn't go to plan for the first team but there was success for the Women's team and Academy, who clinched several trophies collectively. The Women's team achieved the league and cup double in their first season under club operations, without losing a single game in the league. Julian Darby's Under-18s won the Youth Alliance League northern section before thrashing Luton in the national final at the Toughsheet Community Stadium. The youngsters also won the LFA Professional Youth Cup. Andy Taylor's B Team completed a hat trick of successes at the County Ground in Leyland, beating Burnley to lift the LFA Senior Cup. 'What we've seen this past season is not just success in isolation – it's reward for years of groundwork across our footballing departments, be it Julian Darby, Dave Gardiner, Myles Smith or the many wonderful members in their respective teams,' Shazad stated. 'The performance of our Women's team, B Team and Academy sides is a powerful signal that the club is building the right way - from the ground up, with cohesion, standards and identity running through every level. 'From a strategic standpoint, these achievements confirm our belief in a "one club" philosophy. We don't view these teams as peripheral or developmental – they're integral pillars of Bolton Wanderers. 'Their success enhances our brand, our talent pipeline and our commercial appeal. Winning matters, but what matters even more is how we're winning - with local talent, intelligent coaching and a culture of excellence that mirrors the first team's direction.' Several youngsters also received opportunities in the first team during the final weeks of the campaign including David Abimbola and Sam Inwood. Shazad echoed new Sporting Director Fergal Harkin's words about the importance of developing talent to make the step up to the senior ranks. 'Another core pillar is player trading and development,' he said. 'This isn't just about selling talent – it's about creating a vertically integrated pathway from Academy to first team and beyond, which creates long-term value both on the pitch and on the balance sheet. 'Our investment in data-led recruitment and youth development ensures that we aren't just developing talent for ourselves but becoming a club recognised for producing players who thrive at higher levels. 'Our B Team, as well as U18s have had tremendous success this season, winning leagues and cups alike and we hope to build upon these foundations in the years to come.'
