Man sets himself, lover on fire in Kluang

(PDRM pic) PETALING JAYA : A man set himself and his lover on fire after pulling her out of a bus near the Simpang Renggam toll plaza in Kluang, Johor, on Wednesday. Kluang police chief Bahrin Noh said they received an emergency call at 5.46am informing them of a burning car at the location. 'Preliminary investigations found that the 44-year-old suspect pulled the victim, a 37-year-old woman, out of a workers' bus before pouring petrol on the victim and himself. 'The suspect then lit a lighter, setting both of them on fire. 'Another man in his 30s who was at the location attempted to help them, but was also burned,' Sinar Harian reported him as saying today. Bahrin said all three were sent to Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital to be treated for severe burns. The cause of the incident is still being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which provides for up to 20 years' imprisonment and a fine. Bahrin called on members of the public with information on the incident to contact the nearest police station or the Kluang police headquarters at 07-7784222.

Man nabbed in Kluang after performing lewd act in public

PETALING JAYA : A man has been arrested for behaving indecently in public in Kluang, Johor, on Wednesday, after a video of the incident went viral. Kluang police chief Bahrin Noh said police launched an investigation upon receiving a report, and found that the incident took place in front of a supermarket on Jalan Batu 4 at 4.16pm. He said the 55-year-old was arrested by the roadside at Jalan Besar Mersing at around 5pm yesterday. Checks revealed that the man had a criminal record of two offences, although his urine test came back negative for drugs. 'The case is being investigated under Section 377D of the Penal Code (outrage of decency), which carries a sentence of up to two years' imprisonment upon conviction,' Bernama reported Bahrin as saying today. A 12-second video had gone viral on social media, showing a man performing a lewd act by the roadside while holding a mobile phone.

5 Indonesians held in connection with killing of worker in oil palm estate

(Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Police have arrested five Indonesians to assist in investigations into the fatal stabbing of a worker in an oil palm plantation in Paloh, near Kluang, yesterday. Kluang police chief Bahrin Noh said all five men, aged between 21 and 31, were arrested around Paloh at about 1am today, Bernama reported. Police were alerted when the man, also an Indonesian, died at the Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital yesterday from a stab wound in the chest at about 9.36am. Bahrin said investigations found the suspects had no prior convictions for criminal offences. Their urine tests came back negative. They have been remanded for seven days.
