Exclusive! Salman Khan: I miss cycling around Bandra

Salman and Salim Khan Salman Khan cycling through the streets of Bandra was once a familiar and cherished sight. The Bollywood superstar has always preferred this eco-friendly and healthy mode of travel for short distances around his home. It wasn't uncommon to spot him riding from Galaxy Apartments to Mehboob Studios. However, ever since the attack on his house last year, Salman has been under heavy security, which has brought his cycling routines in the city to a halt. When asked if he misses riding around Bandra, Salman admitted, 'Of course! I do miss it, but I still manage it at the farm (in Panvel).' 'I taught my nephews to bike at our farm' Speaking to us at the unveiling of Season 2 of the Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL), where he serves as the brand ambassador, the Bajrangi Bhaijaan actor reminisced about learning to ride from his father, Salim Khan – a memory that clearly holds sentimental value. It's a skill he has proudly passed on to the next generation. 'I taught my nephews Arhaan (Arbaaz Khan's son) and Nirvaan (Sohail Khan's son) to bike at our farm. They used to take turns and do wheelies at a young age. Their turns were such that they would grind the footrest on the ground,' shared the actor. Salman Khan cycling around Bandra 'Zaheer Iqbal's father was one of the most amazing riders I ever saw' Salman also raised concerns about the growing trend of reckless biking stunts on Mumbai's streets, particularly those done without safety measures. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Top 25 Most Beautiful Women In The World Articles Vally Undo 'I have lost a friend of mine, Timmy, when this Bandra Reclamation was under construction. They used to have these races, and he won the race, but his helmet got stuck and he couldn't apply the brakes in time. This resulted in a crash, and he passed away.' He also spoke about one of the best bikers he knows, saying, 'You know (Zaheer) Iqbal's father Iqbal Ratansi, he was one of the most amazing riders I have ever seen,' he said. 'We restored Dad's first bike for him' Last year, Salman had shared a picture on Instagram, where he was seen posing with a vintage bike alongside his father. He captioned it: 'Dad's 1st bike, Triumph Tiger 100, 1956.' Getting nostalgic, he told us, 'He bought this bike when he was 16 years old for `4800.' The legendary writer later parted with the bike, but he would often recall it in conversations with Sohail Khan. Salman shared, 'Sohail sourced this bike. It was lying in a junkyard in Hyderabad. So, we got this bike from Hyderabad, sourced all the parts (that were missing) and restored it for him.' Celebrating Eid with fans from behind bulletproof glass Eid has been a special moment for Salman and his fans, who gather in huge numbers to catch a glimpse of him waving from his balcony. However, this year the moment came with a stark change as the actor was seen behind a bulletproof glass barrier. Reacting to this, he said, 'It is not because of any other reason, but we had to do something about the security because sometimes we would find some fan sleeping in the balcony. They used to climb up and sleep on the balcony, so we had to cover that place. '

'The love Bajrangi Bhaijaan gets even today proves that humanity exists'

Kabir Khan 's Bajrangi Bhaijaan , which featured Salman Khan in one of his most endearing roles, recently clocked 10 years. It tells the story of a kind-hearted man who embarks on a journey to reunite a mute Pakistani girl with her family across the border. The film struck an emotional chord with audiences worldwide, with people often asking the director about a sequel to the film. 'Discussions about Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2 keep happening' Kabir is often asked about a possible sequel to the movie. He says, 'At a time when people are objecting to anything and everything, the kind of love the film gets even today, proves that deep down humanity exists. We got the timing of the film right, which is why it resonated with people. Of course, Salman and I have discussed Bajrangi Bhaijaan 2, but we don't want to make a sequel just for the sake of it; when it happens, it will be done well. ' '2000 girls were auditioned for the role of Munni' Recalling the casting process for Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kabir tells us, 'I knew if we didn't find the right Munni, the film wouldn't stand, so 2000 girls were auditioned, of which 10 were finalised. Shooting with children isn't easy, so we had a 10-day workshop. She also had to have the stamina to shoot a six-month-long film in places like Kashmir and Rajasthan . That's how we finalised Harshaali Malhotra , who met all requirements.' 'I was apprehensive about approaching Kareena because of the length of her role' Speaking of how Salman and Kareena Kapoor Khan came on board, he shares, 'Salman and I had just delivered a big action film, Ek Tha Tiger, and conventional wisdom says one must repeat what is successful. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? How to get Internet without paying a subscription? Techno Mag Learn More Undo But for me, Bajrangi was always Salman, and when I narrated the script, he felt strongly about the political angle and jumped on it. His love for children came across in the film, and it became his first production. I was apprehensive about approaching Kareena because the length of her role was less. Her character was the voice of reason, and I asked her to hear the entire script. By the end of the narration, she had tears in her eyes.' ' Nawazuddin Siddiqui 's Chand Nawab was inspired by a Pakistani journalist' Kabir says that Nawazuddin Siddiqui's character Chand Nawab was directly inspired by Pakistani journalist Chand Nawab. The real Chand Nawab became famous after a video of him went viral in 2008, where he was seen struggling to deliver a news report at a crowded railway station in Karachi. Kabir says, 'I had worked with Nawaz in New York and couldn't find an appropriate role for him in Ek Tha Tiger. So, when we were casting for Chand Nawab, I just showed him the viral video and he fell off his chair laughing, saying he would do the film. ' 'The police had to take Salman out of Chandni Chowk' The film's locations in Kashmir and Rajasthan are now famous as 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan points'. The director recalls, 'I love shooting in real locations. I tried shooting with Salman in Chandni Chowk, but a senior police officer told me that 20,000 people had gathered there. A decoy car with police had to take Salman out of Chandni Chowk. Reaching Munni's village, which was in Aru, involved an hour's trek for the cast and crew every day with all our camera equipment. Today, all those locations are known as Bajrangi Bhaijaan points. We would organise Kashmiri food feasts every 10-12 days and take days off so the team could travel and explore Kashmir. Even today, I regularly travel to Kashmir.' 'Munni's only dialogue in the film wasn't clear' Recalling some challenging moments Kabir adds, 'We had to scout for a dargah to shoot 'Bhar Do Jholi' an important qawwali in the film. Getting Adnan Sami on board was Salman's idea and in the end everything worked out well. Later, after we shot the climax with Harshaali and were working on the sound mixing, which had to be delivered the next morning, suddenly we realised the words 'mama' -Munni's only dialogue in the film wasn't clear. We called two security guards to test it and they couldn't understand what Harshaali was saying. My daughter Sairah was around the same age, so I woke her up from her sleep, took her to the studio and got her to record Munnai crying out 'mama' that's how the film got delivered in time."

Kabir Khan on a decade of Salman Khan's ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan': It didn't just entertain, it healed

Filmmaker Kabir Khan on Thursday celebrated the 10th anniversary of his popular Salman Khan-starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan, saying the movie continues to make people laugh and cry even today. The film, which also featured Kareena Kapoor Khan and Harshaali Malhotra, was released to universal acclaim on July 17, 2015. 'Over the last decade I have been totally overwhelmed by the love this film keeps accumulating all over the world. We set out to tell a story of love and hope in a world that sometimes forgets these emotions,' the director posted on Instagram. At its heart, the film was about a mute Pakistani girl lost in India and the Indian man who goes to great lengths to reunite her with her family. Salman essayed the role of Pawan, a Lord Hanuman devotee, Kareena starred as Rasika, his love interest, and Malhotra as Munni, the Pakistani who gets lost in India. When it was released in theatres, Bajrangi Bhaijaan became a huge box office hit with critics praising the movie for its combination of emotional storytelling, strong performances, and its message of humanity transcending borders. Malhotra, who was seven at the time of the movie's release, also marked the film's 10th anniversary. "10 years ago… A film was released that was far more than a story. It was a feeling. A message of love, humanity, and faith that moved millions across the world. "I was just a 6-year-old girl when 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' entered my life. I didn't speak a word in the film… but I never imagined how much my silence would be heard, how deeply it would be felt," she wrote alongside a still from the movie on Instagram. Malhotra also said the set of Bajrangi Bhaijaan became her "safe space". "Salman sir made me feel protected, like the warmest uncle ever. Kabir sir turned every scene into a story I could feel, not just act. From the spot dadas to the makeup didis, everyone treated me like I was their own. "We shot across snowy mountains and dusty roads, laughed between takes, shared laddoos, and sometimes, even cried together," she added.
