Insider Teases Major 2025 NFL Draft Trade Inside the Top 5: ‘It's Coming'
A little over 48 hours away from the 2025 NFL draft, and there still hasn't been a major recent trade involving a first- or second-round pick. While there has been speculation that several teams in the top 10—the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears—are either fielding calls or making their own to inquire about trading out of their picks, no deals have materialized to the point of trade parameters being leaked by an insider yet. Advertisement However, NFL Network's Brian Baldinger dropped quite the bombshell in a 39-second video posted to his X account, in which he let fans know that he's heard a blockbuster trade that will impact the first few picks is in the works. NFL Network host Chris Rose (left), analyst Brian Baldinger (center) and reporter Jane Slater during Dallas Cowboys training camp at the River Ridge Lee-Imagn Images 'I get these premonitions when we get close to the draft,' Baldinger stated. 'We're basically 48 hours away, I'm just telling you, I feel a blockbuster trade coming in the top five. I kind of know what might happen; I'm just letting you know — this is a tease. 'Like, it's coming, be ready for it. This is not going to be a boring draft. We've got a blockbuster trade coming. There's only so many great players in this draft. Like, I feel it. I might have to release it. I'm just teasing you right now.' It's not known if Baldinger will actually leak the details of the major trade he's referring to, but one could guess it likely involved the Cleveland Browns or New York Giants. Advertisement ESPN's Peter Schrager reported Tuesday morning on 'Get Up' that both teams were fielding trade offers from teams wanting to move up for either Colorado receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter, Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter, or Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty. 'There have been phone calls made to the Browns at [No.] 2 and the Giants at [No.] 3 with the intention to move up from several different sources telling me that there are teams looking to move up in this draft to either the 2 or the 3 spot,' Schrager said. '… Those teams are not immediately slamming down the phone. The Browns at 2, the Giants at 3 — everyone assumes…it's going to go Cam Ward, it's going to go Travis Hunter, it's going to go Abdul Carter. Not so fast. I think the 2 spot gets very interesting if the Browns are listening to a 'godfather' deal for them to trade back and someone to trade up into the top three.' Which offensive lineman does this insider target for the Steelers?
For the first time in a long time, the Pittsburgh Steelers are heading into free agency with a lot of money to spend and some serious spots that must be upgraded. One position you might not have thought about as a major offseason need is the offensive line. But according to NFL reporter Brain Baldinger, the Steelers have their eye on a big-time free-agent offensive lineman and aren't afraid to spend some money to get them. Baldiner was on his podcast, In The Huddle with Jason La Canfora and offered some insight on what he's hearing out of Pittsburgh as far as their offensive line. "Their number one pick last year was hurt all year, Fautanu, he's coming back," Baldinger said. "They're probably gonna hit, I mean, I've talked to people in Pittsburgh. There's a certain free agent offensive lineman that's gonna be available out there that they have their eyes on." Baldinger didn't give any names but we aren't afraid to speculate. If we assume Fautanu is coming back to start at right tackle, the Steelers would be in the market for a guard. Maybe to replace Isaac Seumalo and he becomes a cap casualty. If that's the case and we are thinking big, it has to be Kansas City's Trey Smith. He's the best free-agent offensive lineman in the entire offseason. But maybe the Steelers plan to use Fautanu at guard and they are eyeing a veteran offensive tackle to pair up with all this youth. The best offensive tackle is Ronnie Stanley but rumor has it he's very close to re-signing with the Baltimore Ravens. The next-best option is either Jacksonville's Cam Johnson or Los Angeles' Alaric Jackson. Brian Baldinger fascinated to see what offense Ben Johnson builds with Bears
Brian Baldinger fascinated to see what offense Ben Johnson builds with Bears New Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson has plenty of expectations heading into his first year and a very respected resume that shows he's capable of succeeding. Johnson will not only look to turn the Bears back into a winning franchise, but he'll also be responsible for the growth of quarterback Caleb Williams, who looks to become the franchise quarterback for the long-term future. Having served as the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator since 2022, Johnson put together one of the league's most dynamic offenses that paved the way for their success. Led by a running back duo of Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, while having top receiving threats in wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and tight end Sam LaPorta, Johnson now arrives in Chicago with weapons in place at the skill positions. Current NFL analyst Brian Baldinger, like many around the NFL, are interested to see what Johnson does with the weapons he now has with the Bears, which is expected to be a different offense than in Detroit. Speaking to Adam Rank of "The Sick Podcast" during Super Bowl LIX week, Baldinger said he is intrigued by comments Johnson has made since being named the Bears head coach when it comes to their offensive plans. "Everything that he's saying so far is interesting to me," Baldinger said when talking about Johnson's plans for the Bears offense. "Most coaches have a prefabricated offense or defense, or some gameplan that they want to install. I feel like listening to Ben [Johnson] he's going to literally build this offense around Caleb's strengths. Obviously he's got different strengths than what we just saw from Jared Goff, and Goff just played his best football." Referring to Johnson as an architect, Baldinger said he would love to see a documentary created around Johnson building an NFL offense. "I'm really interested to see how this architect goes to work to build an offense," Baldinger said. "I think it would be fascinating in the world of documentaries I would love to see him build an offense from scratch. I've never been part of something like that. I'm kind of curious to see what the foundation is and where it can go." There is certainly excitement around the arrival of Johnson in Chicago, and the excitement also comes with intrigue for how he'll build around Williams.
