Declined US President Trump's invite to Washington to come to Odisha: PM Modi
Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said he declined an invitation from US President Donald Trump to visit Washington after his official visit to Canada because he had to come to Odisha, the sacred land of Lord Jagannath. I respectfully told the President of the United States, 'Thank you for your kind invitation, but it is essential for me to go to the sacred land of Mahaprabhu.' And so, I humbly declined his offer, because your love and the devotion to Mahaprabhu drew me irresistibly to this holy land,' PM Modi said at an event in Bhubaneswar to mark the first anniversary of the BJP government led by Mohan Majhi. Modi said Odisha was a radiant beacon of India's rich heritage. 'For thousands of years, it has been a cornerstone of Indian culture, contributing to its growth and vibrancy. Today, as the ideals of development and heritage form the foundation of India's progress, Odisha's significance and role in this journey have grown even greater,' he added. 'Today is a very special day. Today, the first BJP government in Odisha has successfully completed one year. This anniversary is not just of the government; it is the anniversary of the establishment of good governance. This one year was dedicated to public service and public trust. When the BJP government in Odisha is completing its first year, all of you are busy preparing for the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath. Mahaprabhu is our idol and inspiration and with the blessings of Mahaprabhu, the issues related to the Srimandir have also been resolved,' he said. PM Modi also unveiled the Odisha Vision Document, a roadmap for the state's development goals anchored around the centenary of Odisha's formation as India's first linguistic state in 2036 and India's 100 years of independence in 2047, an official statement said. The vision document aims to transform Odisha into a $500 billion economy by 2036 and a $1.5 trillion economy by 2047. Additionally, he launched the 'Baraputra Aitihya Gram Yojana' initiative to honour eminent Odias by developing their birthplaces into cultural hubs. The Prime Minister launched multiple development projects covering critical sectors such as drinking water, irrigation, agricultural infrastructure, health infrastructure, rural roads and bridges, sections of national highways, and a new railway line. He flagged off new train services extending rail connectivity to Boudh district for the first time and launched 100 electric buses under the Capital Region Urban Transport initiative to promote eco-friendly urban mobility.

He also felicitated several people, including 'Lakhpati Didis' and others. Modi, who visited Odisha for the sixth time since the BJP government was formed in the state in June 2024, launched the projects at a function at Janata Maidan here. The projects launched by the Prime Minister included drinking water and irrigation, health infrastructure, rural roads and bridges, national highways and railway infrastructure. Modi flagged off the first passenger train to Boudh district after inaugurating the Sonepur-Purunakatak railway line. Railway projects such as the third and fourth rail lines between Sarla-Sason and the fourth rail line between Jharsuguda-Jamga were also launched. This apart, Modi also flagged off 100 electric buses under the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) system, promoting eco-friendly urban mobility. Prepared following people's feedback, the Prime Minister unveiled the 'Odisha Vision Document', the roadmap for the state's development goals, anchored around the centenary of Odisha's formation as a linguistic state in 2036 and India's 100 years of independence in 2047. BHUBANESWAR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay foundation stones of multiple projects worth over Rs 18,600 crore to mark the first anniversary of the first BJP government in the state here on Friday. The projects will cover critical sectors including drinking water, irrigation, agriculture and health infrastructure, rural roads and bridges, national highways and a new railway line. He will also flag off new train services extending rail connectivity to Boudh district for the first time. In a major boost to clean energy and sustainable transport, Modi will flag off 100 electric buses under the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) system. He will release the Odisha Vision Document anchored around the landmark years of 2036 (when Odisha completes 100 years as India's first linguistic state) and 2047 (when India celebrates 100 years of independence). The vision document outlines an ambitious and future-ready roadmap for inclusive growth. The state has set an ambitious target to become a $500 billion economy by 2036 and $1.5 trillion by 2047. As a tribute to the contribution of eminent personalities of the state, the prime minister will launch the 'Baraputra Aitihya Gram Yojana' initiative which to transform their birthplaces into living memorials through museums, interpretation centres, statues, libraries and public spaces honouring Odisha's heritage while promoting cultural tourism. Celebrating more than 16.5 lakh Lakhpati Didis as symbols of prosperity and self-reliance, Modi will felicitate women achievers from across the state at the event. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday reviewed the preparations at Janata Maidan, the venue for the grand celebration of the first anniversary of the state government. Expecting a huge turnout of people from across the state, Majhi inspected the entire venue and all arrangements in detail, especially those concerning the prime minister's security aspects. The chief minister directed government officials to ensure that all arrangements are completed without any lapses in view of the PM's visit. State BJP president Manmohan Samal, Works minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, BJP Odisha in-charge Vijay Pal Singh Tomar and co-in-charge Lata Usendi accompanied the chief minister during the inspection. Chief secretary Manoj Ahuja and additional chief secretary Industries Hemant Sharma briefed him about the preparations made for the event.
