JetBlue's Latest Big Partnership Isn't With Another Airline
JetBlue is teaming up with Brightline, the nation's first private, intercity rail operator. As part of the new initiative, JetBlue customers will be able to book itineraries that feature both a flight and a train trip. As The Points Guy reports, JetBlue's new collaboration with Brightline arrives after the New York based airline announced a new partnership with United Airlines. "This partnership enables travelers to book a single ticket for both air and rail, offering a fast, reliable, and eco-friendly rail transportation option while seamlessly connecting to JetBlue's extensive network," Barbara Drahl, Brightline senior vice president of marketing and commercial strategy, said in an official statement Tuesday. As part of the new collab, JetBlue-Brightline connections will include complimentary shuttle service between airports and nearby stations. Whether you're flying in coach or opting for JetBlue's premium cabin, passengers can expect product overlap. On air and rail bookings, passengers flying via JetBlue economy tickets will shift to a standard "Smart" fare on Brightline, while passengers flying Mint will then shift into Brightline's premium cars. "Together we're expanding transportation options for all of our customers to get to where they want to go, whether they're starting their journey, heading to their final destination, or adjusting plans along the way," said Dave Jehn, JetBlue's vice president of network planning and airline partnerships, in a statement announcing the news. JetBlue's new initiative with Brightline arrives two years after the latter extended its Florida rail service, linking the Sunshine State's coast with the terminals at Orlando International Airport (MCO). The train runs from Orlando to Miami, with intermediate stops in West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Ft. Lauderdale, and Aventura. It reaches speeds of up to 125 miles per hour, the fastest train in North America aside from Amtrak's Acela service. JetBlue, Brightline team up for 'seamless' air-and-rail booking in Florida, what to know
Traveling on planes, trains and automobiles may get a little easier with a new partnership between JetBlue Airways and Brightline announced on June 3. The New York-based airline, which has made Florida a priority in its expansion, and the nation's only privately-owned passenger rail are offering "a seamless air-and-rail booking experience for travel across Central and South Florida" by allowing JetBlue passengers to book both a plane and train trip directly on as part of a combined itinerary. This allows travelers to Florida to hop off a plane and onto a train (or shuttle to a train) heading to one of Brightline's stations from Orlando down the Sunshine State's east coast in West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Aventura, and Miami. Tickets are expected to be on sale immediately. The partnership also offers alternative itineraries for Brightline to fill in when air travel runs into problems. If your JetBlue flight is stuck in Orlando, you could take a train to your destination instead of waiting to take off. 'As we continue to grow in Florida and offer more flights to and from cities like Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Orlando, our partnership with Brightline helps us deliver even more value and convenience to our customers,' said Dave Jehn, vice president, network planning and airline partnerships, JetBlue. 'JetBlue and Brightline share a commitment to innovation and great service, and together we're expanding transportation options for all of our customers to get to where they want to go, whether they're starting their journey, heading to their final destination, or adjusting plans along the way.' Just search by city (not airport) at JetBlue's site or on its app to get options, and you'll see suggested itineraries, which will include connections to a Brightline train segment. JetBlue's economy tickets will match up with Brightline's Smart fare, and Mint passengers will get seats with Brightline's Premium service. according to a release. When connecting from JetBlue to Brightline, you must collect all checked bags before going to the train station. Bag transfers are not provided. 'We are proud to partner with JetBlue to enhance connectivity throughout Florida,' said Barbara Drahl, senior vice president of marketing and commercial strategy at Brightline. 'This partnership enables travelers to book a single ticket for both air and rail, offering a fast, reliable, and eco-friendly rail transportation option while seamlessly connecting to JetBlue's extensive network.' Brightline's Orlando station is located at Orlando International Airport, directly adjacent to Terminal C, connected by a walkway. In South Florida, the Fort Lauderdale Brightline station is about five miles from the Fort Lauderdale International Airport. Brightline offers shuttle service, which can be included in the JetBlue air-and-rail booking. Not yet, anyway. (This story was updated to add new information.)
