Investigators search for answers after explosion rocks quiet Barrie neighbourhood

The incident happened around noon Saturday near Thorncrest Road. After the explosion rocked the quiet neighborhood, investigators have been searching for answers. 'The OFM have the training and expertise that is required and necessary to sift through the debris and hopefully determine what caused this explosion to take place,' said Barrie Police corporate communications coordinator Peter Leon to CTV News on Sunday. Security camera footage provided to CTV News by a neighbour captured the moment of the blast. A deafening bang was followed by flames flooding the home. By the time CTV News arrived, the residence had been destroyed, with firefighters working to extinguish any hotspots. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, and the total damage has not yet been determined. Nearby homes sustained some damage but have been deemed safe. Barrie home burns down in large fire
The scene of a fire at a home in Barrie, Ont., on Sat., Aug. 9, 2025. A home in Barrie, Ont. burned down after a large fire around noon on Saturday. It happened on Marshall Street near Thorncrest Road. Residents claimed to CTV News that it was a house explosion. Paramedics and Barrie police were also on scene. The area was closed as firefighters continued extinguishing the wreckage. CTV News reached out to Barrie Fire and Emergency Services for more information. Note: This is a developing story.
