Kesari 2 OTT release: Akshay Kumar's courtroom drama to stream on THIS platform. Check details

The much-anticipated film 'Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh', starring Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday, and R Madhavan, has released on OTT this week. The courtroom drama has begun streaming on JioHotstar from June 13. The film hit cinemas on April 18 and was well received by both critics and viewers. Blending history with intense courtroom drama, 'Kesari 2' explores the lesser-known legal and emotional aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Akshay Kumar plays a lawyer leading the fight for justice, while R Madhavan and Ananya Panday support with strong performances in pivotal roles. Unlike the first 'Kesari', which focused on the Battle of Saragarhi, Kesari Chapter 2 shifts its lens to a different historical tragedy. Told largely through powerful courtroom scenes, the film aims to shed light on the untold voices surrounding Jallianwala Bagh, giving it a fresh and emotional perspective. The film had a steady start at the domestic box office, earning ₹ 7.75 crore on its opening day. It gradually picked up momentum despite tough competition from Sunny Deol's 'Jaat' and Emraan Hashmi's 'Ground Zero'. However, its performance was slightly affected after the release of Ajay Devgn's much-anticipated 'Raid 2'. As of now, the film's India net collection stands at ₹ 92.65 crore, while its worldwide total has reached approximately ₹ 144 crore.

EXCLUSIVE: Did working in Akshay Kumar's Kesari Chapter 2 hamper Amit Sial's friendship with Randeep Hooda?

Randeep Hooda was set to star in Battle of Saragarhi but the film was shelved after the success of Akshay Kumar's Kesari, which was based on the same subject. Amit Sial, who was a part of Kesari Chapter 2, recently revealed whether working in the spiritual sequel hampered his friendship with Randeep. In an exclusive conversation with Pinkvilla's Hindi Rush, Amit Sial was asked if he was unsure about working in Kesari Chapter 2 since his friend Randeep Hooda's film was shelved due to the first part. In response, the actor shared an interesting trivia about how the movie initially wasn't titled Kesari 2. He said, 'Working title uska tha Sankaran Nair vs the Crown. Jab mai shoot kar raha tha toh baki logon ne bhi obviously point out kiya hoga, maine bhi apne director Karan se ekdum aise hi normally baat kari thi ki, 'Bhai kaise samjhega koi yeh title? Yeh toh matlab bahut hard core angrezi type title hai.' (Its working title was Sankaran Nair vs the Crown. When I was shooting, other people must have obviously pointed it out too, I normally said to my director Karan, 'How will anyone understand this title? This is a very hard core English type title.'' He continued, 'I think phir inn logon ne kuch apas me apna vichar vinash karke Kesari 2 iska naam rakha because Kesari 1 was a successful film (They discussed among themselves and named it Kesari 2 because Kesari 1 was a successful film).' Amit added, 'So why not take advantage of the fact that it was a successful film and this is also an ode to the nation and what happened in Jallianwala Bagh. It's an emotional movie like the first one. So they changed the name.' Watch the full interview here! Talking about his bond with Randeep Hooda, Amit Sial shared, 'Itni kacchi bhi nahi hai dosti humari ki matlab 30 saal ki dosti jo hai mujhe usme sochna pade ki main Kesari 2 mein kaam karunga ki nahi karunga because Kesari 1 mein Akshay Kumar ji ne kaam kar liya Battle of Saragarhi mein jiske liye Randeep prepare kar raha tha. No, all these are very small things).' When asked if he felt that injustice was done with Randeep, the actor stated, 'Mera bhai hai woh aur maine uski preparation dekhi thi. Injustice tak toh baat nahi pahunchi dimaag mein but kyunki main uss aadmi se itna attached hun toh maine jo uski preparation dekhi thi toh jitna disappointed woh tha utna hi disappointment mujhe bhi feel hua. Kyunki meri family hai woh. (He is my brother and I saw his preparations. Injustice never crossed my mind but because I am so attached to that person, I saw his preparations and I felt as disappointed as he was. Because he is my family).' 'We didn't have a title for the longest time. Then Akshay sir came up with the idea of naming it Kesari Chapter 2. I think it was a great suggestion. We unanimously jumped on the idea that Kesari Chapter 2 is indeed the perfect title. For us, Kesari signifies the colour of revolution and a story of valour and bravery of an unsung hero of India. It's a title that does complete justice to the film and narrative. There are so many stories of unsung heroes in this country that are revolutionary in nature,' he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The 'Kesari' franchise is just getting started The first 'Kesari' film, released in 2019, was also headlined by Akshay and told the story of the Battle of Saragarhi. Kesari Chapter 2 Box Office Collection Day 5: Akshay Kumar's Film Holds Steady, Mints Rs 38 Crore

Kesari Chapter 2, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi and starring Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday, and R Madhavan, continues to perform at the box office on day 5. Akshay Kumar is back in action. Kesari Chapter 2, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, is holding its ground at the box office even after five days in theatres. The film, which also stars R Madhavan and Ananya Panday, has managed to pull in a solid Rs 38.37 crore across India so far. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Kesari Chapter 2 earned an estimated Rs 4.37 crore net in India on Tuesday, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 38.37 crore. The film is now nearing the Rs 40 crore milestone in India. Globally, it crossed Rs 55 crore within just four days of release. The Akshay Kumar-starrer opened with Rs 7.75 crore on April 18 and saw strong weekend figures, collecting Rs 9.75 crore on Saturday and Rs 12 crore on Sunday. On Monday, the film added Rs 4.5 crore to its tally, maintaining a steady run through the weekdays. Kesari Chapter 2 serves as a spiritual successor to Akshay Kumar's 2019 hit Kesari. This time around, Akshay steps into the shoes of lawyer C Sankaran Nair, taking on the British Empire in the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. R Madhavan plays his courtroom rival, Neville McKinley, while Ananya Panday takes on the role of Dilreet Gill. Since its release, the film has been receiving positive reviews from both critics and audiences. A part of the film's review by News18 read, 'Kesari Chapter 2 is just a spiritual sequel to Kesari and has no connection to the Battle of Saragarhi. The only common link between both the films is Akshay Kumar and his story of relentless courage. But to be honest, Kesari Chapter 2 brings to the table so much more than chest-thumping patriotism and narabaazi. It largely is a courtroom drama and that precisely is what sets it apart from the plethora of other patriotic films. To put it more correctly, Kesari Chapter 2 is a historical film."
