Couple ordered to tear down dream £500k home after ‘flagrant breach' of rules
Greater Cambridgeshire Council has ruled the property must be demolished by May 6, 2026 HOUSE ABOUT THAT Couple ordered to tear down dream £500k home after 'flagrant breach' of rules Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A COUPLE have been ordered to demolish their dream home worth more than £500,000 after they were found to have made a 'flagrant breach' of the rules. Planning permission was originally granted to build a stallion semen laboratory but a house was built instead. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 7 The property has been valued at more than £500,000 but now has to be demolished Credit: Bav Media 7 The plans originally submitted, which got approval, were to construct a stallion semen laboratory Credit: Bav Media 7 A planning inspector has ruled that an unauthorised house was actually built Credit: Bav Media A planning inspector has ruled that the unauthorised house at Valentine Stables in Great Abington, Cambridgeshire, must be knocked down. Planning permission was granted in 2014 by Greater Cambridge Shared Planning to build a replacement stable block and a specialist 'stallion semen' horse laboratory, with a small upstairs flat linked to the lab use. The plans were approved on the basis that it would be for a countryside business use, with the residential flat only to be used in connection with the laboratory use. The two-storey building was set to have a reception, office, kitchenette, 'analysis and lecture' lab, processing laboratory and staff changing room on the ground floor. Whilst the first floor would be a staff living space with two bedrooms, each with an ensuite bathroom, and a combined living/kitchen space. But, even though the outside of the building looked like the approved plans, the inside was very different. A later investigation showed that the inside of the building looked nothing like the approved plans for the lab and business. Instead, the planning inspector said it was built and used solely as a residential house from the start, with no evidence that the laboratory use was ever implemented. The Council issued an enforcement notice in July 2023 requiring demolition of the property and the owner appealed against the notice. But the Planning Inspector has now agreed with the Council that the building was constructed as a house from the start. We're building our house out of polystyrene - we can slot it together like Lego & it'll cut our heating bill down by 70% He said there was no lab or business running at the site, nor any evidence to show there ever was and that he house was a full home, not just a place for a worker to stay. He also pointed out that the owner had sold their original house on the site and moved into this new home. Inspector Chris Preston wrote: 'Photographs provided by the appellant in February 2022 in response to the Council's Planning Contravention Notice (PCN) show a complete absence of any laboratory space or research facility and that remained the case at the time of my accompanied site visit. 'The ground floor has a decidedly residential appearance, with a domestic kitchen, equipped with kitchen units, cooker, island breakfast bar, with domestic furnishings and appliances. 'A dining area is present next to the kitchen in the space which was shown to house a kitchenette/container storage and distribution on the approved plans. 'Next to that, where the plans depicted an office, is a domestic living room. 'What appears to be an office is present to the front in what was shown on the plans as a reception area. 'Throughout, the ground floor is decorated and equipped in a manner that belies a residential use. 'There is no obvious reception area that would indicate use by customers of a business. 'No laboratory has been installed, no research or stored equipment associated with the business is apparent, either on the photographs from 2022 or at the time of my visit. 7 An inspection discovered that no laboratory had actually been built Credit: Bav Media 7 The inside of the building looked nothing like the approved plans for the lab and business Credit: Bav Media 'Upstairs, where the staff accommodation was intended to be, there are two bedrooms, in the locations shown on the approved plans and a living area/ lounge, equipped with a sofa and television. 'However, no kitchen appears to have been constructed on the upper floor. In other words, the living space is clearly spread over the two floors, as would be the case in a typical house.' He said the council had been told the flat would be used by an additional worker, but in fact the appellant and his wife had since sold their existing house and moved into the new property. He added: 'The over-riding impression is that what has been constructed is a dwellinghouse, occupied by the appellant and his wife, as opposed to a stallion semen collection centre/laboratory on the ground floor with residential accommodation above which is what the approved plans depicted.' He said there was also very little evidence that the stallion semen and collection business had 'ever got off the ground to any notable degree.' He added: 'The lack of any clear record of the semen collection and analysis business, when added to the evidence that the laboratory and associated storage and analysis areas were never constructed raises serious doubts as to whether the 2014 permission was implemented. 'If the pandemic did cause issues with the business, the logical thing to do, if implementing the approved planning permission, would have been to construct the building as permitted, with accommodation at first floor level and space for the laboratories etc at ground floor level, even if that led to a delay in installation of those facilities. 'What actually appears to have happened is that the appellant constructed a dwelling from the off. 'The Inspector agreed that knocking the house down was a proportionate and necessary measure as the local planning policies had been clearly broken, and keeping the building but just stopping people from living there alone would not be enough. Cllr Dr. Tumi Hawkins, Lead Cabinet Member for Planning at South Cambridgeshire District Council, said: "We welcome the Inspector's clear decision, which supports our commitment to upholding planning policies in our Local Plan and the Neighbourhood Plan designed to protect our countryside. 'This case shows the importance of adhering to the specific uses and conditions that justify development in rural areas. 'Planning rules are there for a reason – including protecting our countryside, and this decision demonstrates that we will act when those rules are broken." The house must be knocked down and all waste material removed by May 6, 2026. 7 A Planning Inspector has agreed with the Council that the building was constructed as a house from the start Credit: Bav Media

Shock moment Storage Hunters star drives his CAR at neighbour in war over ‘communal' garden
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THIS is the shocking moment a star from reality TV show Storage Hunters drove his car at a neighbour in a dispute over land. Daniel Hill, 43, was snapped on CCTV driving his BMW at the elderly woman in her 70s in the small village of Haslingfield, Cambridgeshire, on March 9 last year. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 7 Shocking footage shows the moment TV star Daniel Hill drove his car at his neighbour following a dispute over land 7 The Storage Hunters star can be seen racing his BMW towards his unsuspecting neighbour on March 6 last year 7 Hill appears to slam on the brakes just before getting close to his elderly neighbour Hill has been "at war" with residents in the town after his request for permission to build a home was denied, following a dispute with neighbours. The terrifying footage begins with Hill's neighbour leaving her driveway and walking into her front garden. Then, out of nowhere, Hill's BMW appears, with the TV star driving at speed towards his stunned neighbour. Suddenly, just as Hill mounts kerb, he slams on the brakes, coming to an abrupt stop just in front of his terrified neighbour. Then, as dust rises up from the car's sudden braking, Hill exits the vehicle and appears to talk with his elderly neighbour as they walk towards her home. Controversy began when Hill had acquired a plot of "communal" land in Badcock Road, which had been gardened by a woman in her 70s and her husband for 40 years – along with a second piece of land - for £18,000 in November 2023 at an auction of assets of the original estate developer who had gone into liquidation. Hill, who appeared in all five UK series of Storage Hunters from 2014 to 2016 as a 'main buyer,' said at the time that he had 'done the deal of the century' and claimed the local residents should have 'stuck their hand in their pocket' if they wanted the land. He later claimed the locals had been trying to drive him away since acquiring the land and accused them of 'harassing' him and 'causing criminal damage' to his property. But the residents countered, saying he had been 'terrorising' them with his heavy handed behaviour. Hill was arrested and bailed by Cambridgeshire Police in December 2023, accused of harassment, criminal damage and common assault, but was released at the beginning of March 2024 without charge. 7 Hill has been found guilty of driving without due care and attention Credit: Bav Media 7 The TV star was docked nine points on his licence and was also ordered to pay a £660 fine Credit: Bav Media 7 Hill has been engaged in a long-running 'war' with his neighbours over a 'communal' garden space in the town of Haslingfield Credit: Bav Media However, Hill further entered controversy when he removed a silver birch on the land, which had a Tree Preservation Order, and submitted plans for a new house. Neighbours inundated Cambridge Shared Planning with letters of objection, complaining it would be 'overdevelopment of the area". They also argued it would lead to 'loss of light and overshadowing' and pose a safety risk to pedestrians and vehicles as it is on a bend. In March 2024, Hill was denied planning permission because officers said the site was of an 'insufficient size' and in an 'inappropriate location.' Planning officers said at the time the site was 'of an insufficient size and an inappropriate location to accommodate the minimum amount of development to facilitate a single dwelling that would meet the nationally described space standards. The statement added: 'The introduction of any dwelling on the site would result in an undesirable form of cramped and contrived development in a prominent location that would be out of keeping with the character and appearance of the area and would give rise to harm to the amenities of neighbouring properties.' Over the last year Hill has been spotted back at the site, dumping dozens of tyres around his land to prevent people accessing it and burning hedge cuttings. HILL 'DELIBERATELY USED HIS CAR IN A THREATENING MANNER' In December 2023, Mr Hill said: 'I saw this cheap bit of land at auction. "That's how I make my money, I buy stuff cheap and try to make a profit on it. "Originally I thought it was one of those things where it would go crazy money, it's a beautiful village here. "I was watching the auction and it landed around the £5,000 to £6,000 mark and I thought, 'I've got to have some of this.'" He added: "I started bidding and got it for £12,000, obviously there are fees on top, happy days, I actually thought I'd done the deal of the century. "I was really happy with it. I come down here. I did all my research before. "I thought there's planning policy, support planning in the area, there's no TPO's, turned up here and started cutting the trees down, then wham all the villagers came out, almost like with their pitchforks and their angry faces, 'no, no, no, you can't have this land.' "I said, 'sorry I've bought it', I couldn't really understand what the problem was and ever since then they have been sour pusses. "They didn't buy it. I'm not going to buy any tears, this is not a poor area. "You've got accountants, bankers, all kids of very wealthy people here. "If they wanted the land they should have bought it." For his shocking driving behaviour, TV star Hill was found guilty of driving without due care and attention. He was given nine points on his licence and was ordered to pay a £660 fine, following his sentencing at Cambridge Magistrates' Court on May 6. PC Lazaro, from the South Cambs Neighbourhood Team, who investigated, said: 'There has been an ongoing dispute over land in Haslingfield. "Hill deliberately used his car in a threatening manner. "His driving fell far below that of a reasonable and competent driver. "It's fortunate that the victim was not crashed into and injured as a result."

Ku Club rocked the spot from 1979-95, and then it was the iconic Privilege Ibiza until 2020. Eager clubbers have snapped up tickets for The Opening - which are still on sale for £130 a pop. World-famous DJs including Carl Cox, Jamie Jones and Michael Bibi will sound-track the late-night bash. Promoters have teased "scale, spectacle and storytelling" enhanced through "next level" sound and lighting. UNVRS will open up in time to join the likes of Pacha and Amnesia for Ibiza's 2025 season. Organisers have already booked the biggest names as residents this summer - with David Guetta and Fisher amongst them Guinness World Records has officially crowned UNVRS as the world's biggest club - handing over the title previously held by Privilege. The hedonism haven spans a staggering 6,500 square metres - around the same size as a footie pitch. Promoters promised a "never-before-seen concept in nightlife entertainment". Katie Price, 46, parties with fans inside Bolton nightclub as she dives into ball pit and fires a confetti canon It has been touted as combining the "high-end service, luxury and attention to detail of a nightclub with the infrastructure, scale and ambition of arena events". The group behind UNVRS also launched Ushuaïa - where Calvin Harris had a residency last summer - and Hï, formerly Space, which was voted the world's best club for the third year in a row. Leading the operation is The Night League founder and CEO Yann Pissenem, who said: 'Bringing [UNVRS] to life has been one of the most intense and emotional journeys of my career.
