Bebe's ‘light, care and spark' live on a year after Southport attack, family say
The family of Southport attack victim Bebe King has said her light, care and spark live on as it approaches a year since her death. The six-year-old was killed along with Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, when Axel Rudakubana launched his knife attack on the Taylor Swift-themed dance class in the town on July 29 last year. On Monday, a post on the Instagram account of Bebe's Hive referenced the youngster's 'favourite musical' Wicked with the quote: 'Because I knew you, I have been changed for good.' Bebe's Hive was set up by her family to provide support for grieving children through creativity and connection. The post, which appeared to have been written by Bebe's mother Lauren, referred to her as 'my mini me' and 'her dad's soulmate'. It said: 'It's time for us to take the space we need. To feel, to breathe, to hold each other close. To just be. 'To be able to create something so purposeful, so needed, has given us a strength we didn't know we had. A reason. A focus. 'We love and thank every single person who has helped us carry this. 'I feel her with me every day and that feeling is what keeps us going. 'Her light, her care, her spark – it lives on, and we'll continue it for as long as we can. 'To our incredible family and friends – thank you for keeping us afloat, while trying to keep yourselves above water. Thank you for loving Bebe so deeply and for riding this forever journey with us. 'To our amazing community – I don't think you realise what you've done. To everyone further, we also thank you from the bottom of our hearts. 'Your kindness has saved us. 'To Elsie and Alice, we never had the chance to meet you, but we feel like we know you. Your light shines so brightly through your parents, and we're proud to walk alongside them.' In a reference to the Taylor Swift song Bejeweled, the post went on to say: 'Our girls' energy will continue to shimmer. 'And to every brave child, every adult, every family whose lives were changed forever that day – we see you and we're sending you so much love.' A video of Bebe dancing and playing with a bubble machine accompanied the caption, along with photos of her. Sefton Council has asked people not to lay flowers to mark the anniversary of the attack but instead to consider donating to causes including Bebe's Hive, as well as Elsie's Story and Alice's Wonderdance, which were set up in the victim's memories. A three-minute silence will be held in the town at 3pm on Tuesday.

Southport: 'We want to carry on Bebe's light and big heart'
The mother of Bebe King who was killed in the Southport knife attacks has said her daughter had the "biggest heart" and she wanted to "carry on her light" by providing grief support for six, Alice Aguiar, nine, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, were murdered at a Taylor Swift-themed dance workshop last parents have launched Bebe's Hive to provide creative sessions using art, music and storytelling to help bereaved children. Her mum, Lauren King, told BBC Breakfast: "Bebe was so full of joy and had the biggest heart". Ms King added: "She was very caring and creative, and we want to carry on her light and we want to do that with Bebe's Hive."She said she had "turned to creativity" in her own grief and she wanted to offer that to children in the community who had lost loved up Bebe's hive was "a way to concentrate on the beautiful personalities" of children, she said. "Bebe's with me all the time, but everything we put into Bebe's Hive – it's got Bebe at the forefront – it carries me."Axel Rudakubana, then 17, killed the girls when he walked into a dance workshop on Hart Street and began attacking them at from Banks in Lancashire, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 52 years at Liverpool Crown Court in January this year. Bebe King: Town turns yellow in boost for Southport service
Swathes of Southport have turned yellow in support of a new service for grieving children set up in memory of Bebe King, one of three girls killed in the knife attack in the Merseyside 6, Alice Aguiar, 9, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, all died in the murders at a Taylor Swift-themed dance workshop last Bebe's Hive, the group was launched by Bebe's parents to provide creative sessions using art, music and storytelling to help bereaved children. The yellow colour was also chosen to coincide with World Bee Day."Bees always had such a special meaning to Bebe, so we just had to do something," Bebe's aunt Lydia Wainwright said. "What started as just a gentle invitation on Instagram to wear yellow or add something yellow to your school or business has just exploded into something much bigger than we could have ever imagined."In a post on the Bebe's Hive fundraising page, her family said the service would be "a space full of care and hope"."After losing her, we saw how deeply grief affects children," they said."We also saw what was missing: a safe, child-led space for healing. So we're creating one - rooted in love, creativity, and connection."At its heart, Bebe's Hive reflects who Bebe was: warm, inclusive, curious, and endlessly creative. Every part of what we're building carries her kindness and her spark." Churchtown village was decorated with yellow ribbons and people across the area wore at United Legal Assistance and Birkdale Insurance in Southport also shared photographs of staff wearing yellow for the day and the Southport Strollers running club wore yellow as they ran on Tuesday The Atkinson arts centre, Southport Town Hall and Bootle Town Hall were all lit yellow on Tuesday Hive is supported by Elsie's Story Charitable Trust which was set up by Elsie Dot Stancombe's parents.
