Sidney sex offender admits to violating terms of probation

DELHI, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – A registered sex offender is facing prison time after pleading guilty to violating his terms of probation. Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that Tyler Long, 29, of Sidney appeared in court and pled guilty to Failure to Register an Internet Account, a Class E Felony in violation of the Corrections Law. On July 3, 2024, Officer Sarah Cecce of Delaware County Probation notified the Sidney Police Department that Long had created six separate unregistered email accounts. According to the requirements of the New York State Sex Offender Registry, an offender is required to notify their supervising officer of any accounts made within ten days of their creation. Long did not notify Cecce of the email accounts. Long's admission is part of a negotiated plea agreement. He is expected to be sentenced to a term of one to three years in New York State prison. 'I want to thank Officer Sarah Cecce for the work she does monitoring sex offenders like Mr. Long. It is difficult work, but her supervision keeps these individuals accountable. More importantly, officers like her keep these individuals from reoffending or disappearing from society's radar,' said Smith. Sentencing is scheduled for March 17.
