‘Frustrating': Karishma Tanna Breaks Silence On Scarcity Of Work After Scoop

Karishma Tanna was expecting character-driven roles after her noteworthy performance in the Hansal Mehta directorial show, Scoop. Karishma Tanna's gripping performance in the web show Scoop brought her critical acclaim and immense recognition on International platforms. Despite the praises, the actress has been mostly been out of work with only a special appearance in Call Me Bae to her credit since the show's release. As Scoop recently turned two, the actress opened up on the reason behind her absence from the films and shows lately. Talking to Hindustan Times, Karishma Tanna said, 'I genuinely don't have an answer. After a long time, I had a platform and an acting-driven script. Scoop was challenging. It's not like I have become extra choosy after the show. I know if the right script is written, the director can take it to a higher level. I am just waiting for that kind of work to come my way." Karishma Tanna was expecting character-driven roles after her noteworthy performance in the Hansal Mehta directorial show, as she added during the chat about her work endeavours. In the same chat, the actress admitted to feeling frustrated due to the long wait for good scripts to come her way. She confessed, 'I want to be on set… to hold a script again, face the camera, and be around directors and producers. But this is the price you pay when you do a show like Scoop – it's a waiting game for something equally good. I am going through a lot of mixed emotions. Sometimes I feel, 'Jo bhi next aayega, I will take it.' I doubt whether I will be happy on set or not." Scoop, based on Jigna Vora's biographical memoir Behind Bars in Byculla: My Days in Prison, stars Karishma Tanna in the role of a crime journalist, Jagruti Pathak, who seeks justice after being falsely implicated in a murder case. The show, available for streaming on Netflix, earned her the Best Actress in a Drama Series award at the 2023 Filmfare OTT Awards. She also clinched the prestigious Critics' Best Actress award at the 2024 Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival. Besides Karishma Tanna, Scoop also features Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Harman Baweja, Deven Bhojani, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Shikha Talsania, among others in the lead roles.
