Was Divorcing Saif Ali Khan Amrita Singh's Worst Crisis In Life? Here's What She Said

Last Updated: Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh married in 1991, had two kids, and divorced after 13 years. Amrita revealed whether her split was the biggest blow in her life. Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh met on the sets of Bekhudi and tied the knot in 1991 after a brief courtship. Four years later, in 1995, they welcomed Sara Ali Khan. Ibrahim Ali Khan was born in 2001. Years passed, but their marriage couldn't stand the test of time. They ended up splitting after 13 years of togetherness. In a throwback interview, Amrita was asked about whether her divorce was the biggest blow in her life. Find out what she said. Amrita Singh, in conversation with actor-host Pooja Bedi, once said that her divorce with Saif was way below in her list of shocks in life. She said, 'The worst crisis of my life was losing my mother because that's the only identity and that's the only pillar that I have really had in my life. I had no other family other than my mother. I come from a broken home and I have no siblings and I only lived with my mother." She then reflected on the time her son, Ibrahim, struggled with jaundice right after birth, which ended up affecting his hearing and speech. 'And then when Ibrahim was born, he got very unwell and that was the second nasty blow in my life. So my divorce comes much low down in the priority list of shocks," she said. Saif Ali Khan admitted to paying Amrita Singh a hefty sum of Rs 5 crore as an alimony, followed by Rs 1 lakh a month till their son was 18. In yet another throwback interview with The Telegraph, the Jewel Thief actor had revealed that he was penniless after his divorce. Though their parting wasn't regarded as amicable, they had refrained from washing dirty linen in the public about each other. Cut to today: Both Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh have happily moved on in their lives. The Cocktail actor married Kareena Kapoor in 2012, and have two sons, Taimur Ali Khan and Jeh. As for Amrita, she didn't chose to remarry. She often appears in her children, Sara and Ibrahim's social media feeds, implying that she is quite satistified with the way life has panned out for her. So yes, we are actors up to a point but the camera I feel is one of those things it's like man-made magic and it tends to capture it if you're not being honest in front of it. At times like this, you need to be honest.' During the same conversation on Netflix Film Actors' Roundtable in 2023, 'Do Patti' actress mentioned, 'That's been my thing on it that. ‘Saif Ali Khan used to visit Amrita Singh on Raju Ban Gaya Gentlemen set, he'd just been fired from a film': Aziz Mirza

Saif Ali Khan dropped a bomb on his family after he married fellow actor Amrita Singh in 1991 following their whirlwind romance. Even his mother Sharmila Tagore got to know after he'd tied the knot. There were rumours that the sudden nuptials caused ripples in Amrita's life too, as it caused panic on day 1 of the shoot of her 1992 romantic comedy Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman. Now, in a new interview, Aziz Mirza, director of that film, rubbished these rumours. ' Nahi, kuchh nahi hua (No, nothing happened). I don't think there was any panic. Saif used to come to set. Mashallah, he did very well in life, he was thrown out of a film, by I think, HS Rawail. He came to RK Studio and said, 'I've been fired from the film,' because he turned up late or something,' recalled Mirza. In the interview with Radio Nasha, Mirza admitted that Saif has come a long way since then. 'He's a lovely chap. He's made his own career, he's excellent. He did a lot of good work in a lot of films,' said Mirza. The filmmaker made his directorial debut with Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, which starred Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla in the lead roles. Meanwhile, Saif faced a couple of hurdles at the start of his acting career, despite being the son of veteran actor Sharmila Tagore. He was cast by Anand Mahendroo after his striking appearance in a TV commercial. He relocated from Delhi to Mumbai for the same, but the project got shelved. Saif then signed producer HS Rawail's son Rahul Rawail's film Bekhudi opposite Kajol. After completing the first shooting schedule, he was removed from the film because of lack of professionalism. Saif finally got his breakthrough as the fourth male lead in Yash Chopra's 1993 directorial Parampara. He earned the Best Male Debut at the Filmfare Awards next year for Umesh Mehra's 1993 romantic film Aashik Awara, his first film as the solo lead. He followed it up with hits like Sameer Malkan's 1994 action comedy Main Khiladi Tu Anari, Milan Luthria's 1999 action thriller Kachche Dhaage, Sooraj Barjatya's 1999 family drama Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Kundan Shah's 2000 romance Kya Kehna. Saif met his first wife Amrita Singh while filming Bekhudi. After tying the knot, they had two kids in Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan, who both eventually became actors. Saif split up from Amrita in 2004, and married Kareena Kapoor in 2012. They're parents to two sons — Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir Ali Khan.
