Netflix has racked up 23 No. 1 movies in 2025 so far — here are the 5 worth watching
The Netflix top 10 lists are always shifting, and as of this week, 23 movies have claimed the No. 1 spot (per Netflix's tracking data). For those out of the loop, the rotating list gives subscribers a snapshot look at what's trending on the world's biggest streaming service. Being crowned Netflix No. 1 is an honor that only a few dozen movies achieve each year. That achievement means that millions of people are watching that movie at once. So, you might think a No. 1 rank equals a quality watch. Sadly, that's not always the case. I've seen plenty of subpar films claim the Netflix No. 1 spot in the past eight months, including 'The Electric State,' 'iHostage' and 'The Old Guard 2.' Frankly, so far in 2025, I'd argue that more should-skip movies have ranked No. 1 than must-watch ones. That's why I'm picking out the five movies that reached the top of the Netflix top 10 this year, which deserve a spot in your watchlist. These are the best Netflix No. 1 movies of 2025 so far. Stick with me here, but 'To Catch a Killer' is an oddly comforting movie. I know that's a bizarre descriptor for a mystery thriller about a troubled cop tracking down a serial killer, but this 2023 crime drama with Shailene Woodley and Ben Mendelsohn doesn't want to reinvent the wheel, and instead is a movie that hits all the required beats in a way that just works. It's anything but original, but it's well-crafted and knows exactly what its target viewer wants. In 'To Catch a Killer, a ruthless killer is stalking the streets of Baltimore, and FBI agent Geoffrey Lammark (Mendelsohn) is tasked with assembling a team to catch the criminal. His wildcard appointment is young beat cop Eleanor Falco (Woodley), who is dealing with past trauma, but has a keen eye for detail and might be the key to solving the mystery. Watch on Netflix now Let's just say my enjoyment of 'Havoc' proved to be something of a 'hot take' when it dropped on Netflix back in April. The movie's terrible 35% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is proof that its thin plot and dark aesthetic turned many viewers away. However, the stunning action choreography was enough to win me over, and 'Havoc' contains some of my favourite fight sequences of the entire year. I'm more than happy to carry on championing this movie. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Directed by 'The Raid' filmmaker Gareth Evans, 'Havoc' is a hardboiled action-thriller that sees Tom Hardy play a bruised detective fighting his way through the city's criminal underbelly, exposing deep corruption and conspiracy along the way. Yes, I won't deny that the narrative is flimsy, but the high-octane action is so fantastic that it's enough to keep your attention. It also packs some of the most powerful shotgun blasts ever caught on camera. Watch on Netflix now 'The Wild Robot' sees DreamWorks meet the high bar set by Disney's animated crowd jewel, Pixar. It's a family-friendly flick capable of reducing even the most cold-hearted adults to tears. Younger watchers will enjoy the vibrant art style and the whimsical characters, but grown-ups will be captivated by the compelling story of unexpected friendship and finding family in the most unlikely places. The movie opens with a robot washing up on the shores of a mysterious remote island, and stranded with no means of returning to their home base, they are forced to adapt to survive in the harsh conditions. Initially feared by the island's animal inhabitants, the robot, nicknamed Roz (voiced by Lupita Nyong'o), eventually becomes a mother to an orphaned gosling with some help from a wily fox (Pedro Pascal). It's an emotionally rich tale with an important, even slightly predictable, message. Watch on Netflix now I have never been on a cruise trip, and after watching 'Trainwreck: Poop Cruise,' I don't think I ever want to. Part of Netflix's 'Trainwreck' anthology series, which has been dropping new installments weekly this summer, 'Poop Cruise' takes viewers inside a nautical disaster that really stinks (literally). It won't just put you off cruises, but your streaming snacks as well. The documentary follows an infamous cruise trip in 2013 that saw a fire damage the engines onboard and leave the ship drifting in the middle of the ocean just off the coast of Mexico. But the ship didn't just lose sailing capabilities; the power and sanitation systems also failed. This left more than 4,000 passengers stuck onboard with food running out, no air conditioning and sewage leaking into the hallways. Not quite the dream vacation they signed up for. Watch on Netflix now 'Plane' is a big, dumb action movie, and I'm very much okay with that. This 2016 movie starring Gerard Butler is another one that completely understands its target audience and plays to them quite expertly. It's full of ridiculously cheesy dialogue, and some narrative logic that is woolly at best, but it's hard not to have a complete blast with a movie like this. Brodie Torrance (Butler) is a commercial pilot and former Royal Air Force officer who manages to avert disaster by performing an emergency landing when his plane is struck by lightning. But that's not the end of the ordeal, as the craft has landed in a warzone, and the surviving passengers are taken hostage. Torrance must now team up with Louis Gaspare (Mike Colter), a man accused of murder who was only on the plane as he was in FBI custody, to save the day. Watch on Netflix now

Star Wars actor Ben Mendelsohn cuts a suave figure in stylish monochrome look at exclusive event in Los Angeles
Ben Mendelsohn looked effortlessly stylish as he stepped out for the exclusive An Evening With Andor event in Los Angeles on Friday to promote his new Disney+ show. The Rogue One actor, 56, rocked a cool monochrome ensemble featuring a light blue polo shirt layered under a sleek black jacket, paired with matching tailored trousers. He completed the look with crisp white sneakers, adding a relaxed yet refined touch to the red carpet appearance. The Emmy-Award winning star exuded quiet confidence as he posed for photos, flashing his trademark smirk and keeping his hands casually tucked into his pockets. The low-key but chic look was a far cry from the darker characters he's become known for on screen - with Mendelsohn having played a string of villains throughout his impressive Hollywood career. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the He is one of Australia's most celebrated actors with starring roles in The Dark Knight Rises, Rogue One and Animal Kingdom. Back in 2018, the critically acclaimed actor revealed he was once forced to work low-paying jobs to pay the bills. He washed dishes at a restaurant in Sydney's Bondi and was also employed at a Brumby's Bakery during a career slump, according to the Herald Sun. Reflecting on his incredible reversal of fortune since then, Ben said: 'It's been extraordinary. But that's what has been very sweet about it - you don't expect that in this business.' He added: 'I still drive around and look back on a lot of years where things were leaner. I am still happily spun out by it.' The Melbourne-born actor has a history of playing villains in films, but recently said he doesn't overthink the roles he plays. In an interview with The Project, he said his penchant for playing bad guys has turned out 'all right' for him so far. However, he said he's 'got a couple more feathers' in his cap and would like to play more diverse characters in the future. He is currently reprising his role as Orson Krennic from the 2016 movie Rogue One in the Disney+ spinoff Andor. The show has been critically praised, with viewers praising its second season 'the best TV show they've seen this year'. Andor follows Cassian Andor, a character who first appeared in the 2016 movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The series serves as a prequel to the film in the early days after the Galactic Republic became the Empire. Among some of the very first to react to season two of Andor was critic Jordan King, who put it in his 'top five' shows. He said: 'It is the best TV you will see this year, and cements the show's place in my all-time Top 5. 'It's mature, it's knotty, it's uncompromising, and it's emotional in ways you won't see coming. And *that* arc? Astonishing.' The Observer echoed Jordan and wrote: 'The second season, somehow, eclipses [the first] in an impressive fashion, building a masterful narrative arc that is undeniable in its prescience to the rising fascism around the world.'

The Internet's Best Reactions After the Andor Season 2 Finale
It's been a great run, but like any other series, Andor eventually had to end; and what a spectacular ending it had. The weekly release has been able to give way for great fan reactions every week, and now with the show ending, some fans have a lot to say about saying good-bye to Cassian and everyone else in the series; and while it is sad, that doesn't mean we can't have any fun with it. It's probably worth mentioning that Kleya (Elizabeth Dulau) has come out as one of the MVPs on the show, and the final arc does give a lot of backstory as to her origin with Luthen and their journey to defeat the Empire. (@taliesart) May 14, 2025 Jokes aside, a lot of people have just been gushing about how the series actually harkens back (or foreshadows) Rogue One , and how everyone just felt like revisiting the film after finishing Andor . Tony Gilroy you will pay for this parallel #Andor — Nyrotike (@nyrotike) May 14, 2025 — Maximalist Epic Dude (@Maximalistepic) May 13, 2025 Even when Andor was first announced, nobody expected that one of the supporting characters from Rogue One was going to make for an interesting series, but Tony Gilroy managed to pull it off; delivering a Star Wars series that not only looked fantastic, but had such relevant themes that some say needed to be explored in today's day and age. We don't know if Star Wars will ever get something like this again, but hopefully the rave reviews will have Lucasfilm thinking twice before they make another season of The Mandalorian filled with all kinds of cameos and digitally youth-anized characters. Catch the complete second season of Andor now streaming on Disney+.

Andor stars mercilessly mocked for looking like 'off brand' King Charles and Queen Camilla
Andor stars Denise Gough and Ben Mendelsohn looked effortlessly chic during a press junket ahead of the season finale - but viewers hilariously pointed out their striking resemblance to members of the British Royal family. The pair, who play villains Dedra Meero and Orson Krennic on the Disney+ series, were promoting the Season 2 finale when fans noticed a semi-familiar look. The duo, who hail from Ireland and Australia, appeared in press circuit wearing a rather royal-looking attire, with fans joking they appeared to have dressed up as King Charles and Queen Camilla. Mendelsohn, 56, wore a dark grey striped jacket buttoned up with a dark grey tie and white button-up shirt. He had his grey hair brushed back off his forehead. Gough, 45, had her blonde shoulder-length hair resting at her shoulders and wore a black tweet jacket, buttoned up with square gold buttons. Mendelsohn's outfit choice was similar to the grey suit jackets King Charles often is seen wearing. And, while Camilla doesn't wear black all that often, the elegant tailoring of the jacket bore a striking resemblance to her favorite ensembles. Alongside a screenshot of the interview, someone had hilariously written: 'For a second I thought this was supposed to be a Charles and Camilla parody.' A screenshot of the comment was shared to social media, with other users agreeing the on-screen stars had an uncanny resemblance to the monarchs. 'Don't you think Ben Mendelsohn was being deliberate... an Aussie and an Irishwoman get together for a press junket... Let poke fun at the the [British royals]?' questioned one user. 'I can't unsee it now,' someone else moaned, with another adding: 'He looks like King Charles.' Many leaned into Mendelsohn's Australian accent with their replies. 'Hey mate, haven't been telling Diana about the affair have ya mate,' joked a viewer. 'G'day there Diana,' laughed someone else. 'Hey mate, haven't been talking to the French cops have ya mate,' another added. Andor follows Cassian Andor - a character who first appeared in the 2016 movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Viewers have hilariously pointed out a similarity between their look and a royal couple The series serves as a prequel to the film in the early days after the Galactic Republic became the Empire. Mendelsohn played Orson Krennic in the 2016 film Rouge One: A Star Wars Story, reflecting on what it was like to reprise his character in an interview with Variety in April. The actor revealed that creator Tony Gilroy reached out about returning as Krennic in Season 2 of the series - which was an immediate 'yes.' 'Quite a while ago, not that long after the first season,' said Mendelsohn said in an April interview for Variety. 'Tony just said, "Would you be amenable to coming back and just doing a few scenes?" To which I was like, "F**k yeah, absolutely."' He added that shooting Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was a 'really good one,' and he's a huge fan of Michael Clayton, which Gilroy also wrote and directed. '[Playing] Krennic and the whole Star Wars experience was a really good one for me. But I had no idea how good it was going to be. It's taken me by joyous surprise,' he added.
