Bengaluru Metro's Yellow Line to be inaugurated today: Check route, fare, timings
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Yellow line of the Bengaluru Metro Phase-2 project from RV Road in South Bengaluru to Bommasandra in the east on Sunday. Currently, the Bengaluru metro is operated and maintained by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).(PTI) The phase-2 project has a route length of over 19 km with 16 stations and took around ₹7,160 crore to build. Along with this, he will also lay the foundation stone for the Bangalore Metro Phase-3 project. As per a statement from the PM's office, PM Modi will also flag off three Vande Bharat Express trains at KSR Railway Station in Bengaluru at around 11 am. Services and fare Services on this line will begin from Monday, with the first three trains to be driverless, operating at an interval of every 25 minutes, Mint reported. However, the frequency is likely to improve. The trains will run daily from 5:00 am to 11:00 pm, serving thousands of commuters during that time. As per the report, the fare prices will be in line with usual Bengaluru Metro pricing, ranging from ₹10 to ₹90 for a one-way ticket. Currently, the Bengaluru metro is operated and maintained by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Karnataka. It will also help in easing the traffic congestion on key corridors, including Hosur Road, Silk Board Junction, and Electronics City Junction. Between 11:45 am to 12:50 pm, he will be flagging off the Yellow Line and take a metro ride to the Electronic City station, several reports said.

PM Modi to visit Bengaluru on August 10; Central Bengaluru and Electronic City to have traffic restrictions, diversions
During his visit to Bengaluru on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the Bengaluru to Belagavi Vande Bharat train at KSR railway station in the city at around 11 am. He will also virtually flag off Amritsar to Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Nagpur (Ajni) to Pune Vande Bharat trains. Thereafter, he will inaugurate the Yellow Line of the Bengaluru Metro and undertake a metro ride from RV Road (Ragigudda) to the Electronic City metro station. The Bengaluru Metro Phase-2 project (RV Road to Bommasandra) spans over 19 km with 16 stations and was built at a cost of Rs 7,160 crore. With the opening of this yellow line, the operational metro network in Bengaluru will increase to over 96 km. At around 1 pm, the prime minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several urban connectivity projects in Bengaluru. He will also address a public function. PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone of the Bengaluru Metro Phase-3 project worth over Rs 15,610 crore. The total route length of the project will be more than 44 km with 31 elevated stations. In view of PM Modi's visit, traffic restrictions will be enforced on the following roads between 9 am and 1 pm on Sunday. Restriction: All types of vehicles are restricted from KSR Railway Platform No. 7 and 8 via Khode Underpass and from Khode Circle to Maharani Bridge. Diversion: Commuters may use LTP Road, Cottonpet Main Road, Mysore Road, and Magadi Main Road. ——- Restriction: All vehicles coming from Shantala Junction towards Khode Junction. Restriction: All vehicles going towards Khode Junction from the BMTC and KSRTC exit side. Diversion: Should move via LTP Road and Cottonpet Main Road. ——- Restriction: All vehicles coming from Mysore Bank towards Chalukya Circle. Diversion: Should move via KG Road, Mysore Bank Junction, Sagar Junction, K.G Junction, Elite, TB Road, Rajiv Gandhi Circle. ——- Restriction: All vehicles coming from Kanakadasa Junction on Kalidasa Road towards Freedom Park. Diversion: May take a right turn at Kanakadasa Junction and move towards Sagar Junction. ——- Restriction: All vehicles coming from Maurya/Subbanna junction towards Freedom Park. Diversion: May take a right turn from Subbanna Junction and proceed towards Anand Rao Circle. ——- Restriction: All vehicles coming from Lalbagh Main Gate towards Lalbagh West Gate. Centre awaits Karnataka's nod for revised Bengaluru metro phase-2 costs
Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power, Manohar Lal, on Friday said the Central Government will consider the revised cost estimates for Bengaluru Metro Phase-2 only after the Karnataka State Cabinet approves the proposal and submits it formally to the Centre. According to a statement from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the review also covered issues related to infrastructure planning, water sustainability, and urban reforms. During the meeting, Manohar Lal was briefed on the current status of the metro network in the city. At present, Bengaluru has an operational metro network spanning approximately 75 km, while another 145 km is under active construction. Earlier this year, the Union Government had sanctioned the 45-km Phase-3 corridor, approving a budget of ₹15,600 crore. This proposed extension, covering 37 km, is estimated to cost ₹28,400 crore. However, the Minister clarified that the cost estimates for Phase-3A must undergo evaluation by an expert body before the Centre can take a decision. Directions for such an assessment have already been issued, he said. Approval for the project hinges on a formal response from the state government. 'Once the proposal is cleared by the State Cabinet and reaches us, we will initiate the process of sanctioning,' the Minister added. Besides metro expansion, Manohar Lal also stressed the urgent need to tackle legacy waste and promote sustainable urban practices. He underscored the importance of reusing treated wastewater to address the rising demand for fresh water in cities. In a push for sustainable urban planning, he advocated for increased Floor Area Ratio (FAR) along public transit corridors. Allowing higher FAR, he said, would promote denser development around mass transit hubs, reduce traffic congestion, and boost public transport usage. The Minister also encouraged the Karnataka government to implement necessary reforms to become eligible for the Centre's 'Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SSASCI)' scheme for 2025-26. Under this initiative, states can avail of a 50-year, interest-free loan for capital investments beyond existing central schemes. It may be recalled that the Union Cabinet had already approved two key segments of Phase-2 in 2021 — Phase 2A (Central Silk Board to K.R. Puram) and Phase 2B (K.R. Puram to Kempegowda International Airport via Hebbal), which together span 58.19 km. These segments are being implemented at a combined cost of ₹14,788 crore. Once completed, these projects are expected to significantly expand Bengaluru's public transport capacity, offering a vital solution to the city's mounting traffic and connectivity issues.
