Johor police to tighten security, manage traffic for PKR congress this week
JOHOR BARU, May 20 — Johor police will implement precautionary safety and security measures to ensure the smooth running of the PKR National Congress 2025, set to take place in the city this week, said state police chief Datuk M. Kumar. He said the three-day event, beginning this Thursday, will be held at four venues: Johor Persada International Convention Centre, Berjaya Waterfront Hotel, Danga Bay Convention Centre, and Toppen shopping centre. 'We have deployed additional police personnel to all four locations where the congress activities will be held from Thursday to Saturday. 'However, traffic congestion is expected as about 10,000 attendees, including party members, delegates, and guests, are anticipated,' he said at a blood donation drive held in conjunction with the 218th Police Day Celebrations at the Johor police contingent headquarters today. Kumar assured that police do not anticipate any major issues during the congress. He urged all attendees to adhere to the organisers' rules and guidelines to ensure the event proceeds smoothly. 'No matter the programme, the public must comply with the law. As long as the law is followed, there should be no problems,' he said. On potential traffic congestion as the congress coincides with the weekend, Kumar said the police are prepared to manage the situation. He added that no road closures will be implemented in the city during the event. The PKR National Congress was initially scheduled for December 14 and 15 last year but was postponed due to severe flooding in several states, including Johor.

PKR to host 10,000 delegates at 2025 congress in JB
JOHOR BARU: Some 10,000 PKR delegates are expected to physically attend the party's National Congress 2025 here, following constitutional amendments that expanded voting rights to more grassroots leaders. PKR secretary-general Dr Fuziah Salleh said the congress, which runs for three days from May 22, will see a significant increase in in-person participation due to reforms passed on Dec 15 last year. "Every winning branch committee member – 18 from the main committee, 18 from the youth wing, and 10 from the women's wing – is now eligible to attend the congress in person," she said at a press conference here today. Delegates will vote for the party's central leadership through a hybrid system: nearly 10,000 will vote physically, while another 20,000 are expected to vote online. Balloting will take place on May 23, with youth wing voting at Berjaya Waterfront Hotel and the women's wing casting their ballots at the Danga Bay Convention Centre. The Youth and Women's Congress will be jointly officiated on May 22, while the PKR national congress will be launched the following night. The event was originally scheduled for Dec14 and 15, last year, at the Persada International Convention Centre here, but was postponed due to widespread flooding, particularly in Johor. Addressing concerns over internal factional disputes and allegations surrounding branch-level elections, Fuziah said the party had appointed an international audit firm to conduct a comprehensive review of the process. "The external auditors examined the system and internal controls. Their findings confirmed no manipulation, interference, or compromise. "In fact, our election process met international standards," she said. She added that the use of blockchain technology in the voting system had strengthened transparency. "This should put any lingering doubts to rest." Fuziah also said that the party's Jelajah Pra Kongres (pre congress tour) roadshows had generated strong momentum among state delegates ahead of the congress. "Our message is clear – unity is paramount, and we will not allow internal rifts to derail our mission," she said.
