Johor police to tighten security, manage traffic for PKR congress this week
He said the three-day event, beginning this Thursday, will be held at four venues: Johor Persada International Convention Centre, Berjaya Waterfront Hotel, Danga Bay Convention Centre, and Toppen shopping centre.
'We have deployed additional police personnel to all four locations where the congress activities will be held from Thursday to Saturday.
'However, traffic congestion is expected as about 10,000 attendees, including party members, delegates, and guests, are anticipated,' he said at a blood donation drive held in conjunction with the 218th Police Day Celebrations at the Johor police contingent headquarters today.
Kumar assured that police do not anticipate any major issues during the congress.
He urged all attendees to adhere to the organisers' rules and guidelines to ensure the event proceeds smoothly.
'No matter the programme, the public must comply with the law. As long as the law is followed, there should be no problems,' he said.
On potential traffic congestion as the congress coincides with the weekend, Kumar said the police are prepared to manage the situation.
He added that no road closures will be implemented in the city during the event.
The PKR National Congress was initially scheduled for December 14 and 15 last year but was postponed due to severe flooding in several states, including Johor.

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says that there is no threat to Malays in any sector of the government's agencies, particularly the police. KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reportedly defended the appointment of Datuk Seri M Kumar as Bukit Aman's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director, amid criticism from Opposition over the latter's ethnicity. Free Malaysia Today reported Anwar stressing that ethnicity should not be an obstacle for qualified candidates to hold senior government positions. 'It is not an issue for me. Anyone who can do the job is eligible for it,' he said during the Finance Ministry's monthly assembly. Anwar also pointed out that the country's police leadership remained predominantly Malay, including the inspector-general of police (IGP), his deputy, and several other departmental directors. Earlier this month, Badrul Hisham Shaharin from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia had posted a backhand compliment over Kumar's appointment — citing the 'Malaysian Malaysia' concept that is used to demonise DAP. Port Dickson Bersatu division chief known as Che'gubard said that Malaysia may see a non-Bumiputera IGP, chief justice, and chief of the Defence Forces, after the appointments of Kumar and the Armed Forces' Lieutenant-General Datuk Johnny Lim. Kumar was appointed to lead the federal police's CID on August 8, replacing acting director Datuk Fadil Marsus. Kumar, 56, joined the police force in December 1991 as an Inspector. His previous roles include serving as Johor deputy police chief, Johor CID deputy chief, Johor Baru South deputy district police chief, and Mersing district police chief.

Man nabbed over TikTok claim Zara Qairina was murdered

(PDRM pic) PETALING JAYA : A 51-year-old man has been arrested by police over a TikTok video which allegedly contains false statements regarding investigations into the death of Form 1 student Zara Qairina Mahathir. Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director M Kumar said the video – which is more than two minutes long – involved a conversation regarding the findings of the autopsy on Zara. 'Preliminary checks found that the video contained false statements regarding investigations into Zara's case because it described her death as being a premeditated murder,' he said in a statement. Kumar said the man was arrested at 10.20pm yesterday, and that a handphone had been confiscated. The suspect is under remand until Thursday. He is being probed for sedition, improper use of network facilities and making statements with the intention of causing, or that may lead to, public alarm. Kumar warned the public against spreading rumours or manipulated facts concerning Zara's death, pointing out that an inquest was set to be held. He also advised the public to verify the information they came across on social media. Zara was found unconscious at 4am on July 16 after allegedly falling from the third floor of her school's hostel in Papar, Sabah. She died at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu the following day. Her body was exhumed on Aug 9 to allow for a post-mortem amid allegations of bullying. Five minors are set to be charged tomorrow over the alleged bullying.
