Origin & Berlin Packaging partner on sustainable PET bottle caps
Origin Materials, Inc. ('Origin') (NASDAQ: ORGN, ORGNW), a technology company with a mission to enable the world's transition to sustainable materials, announced a strategic customer relationship with Berlin Packaging, the world's largest Hybrid Packaging Supplier, for sustainable PET bottlecaps. Under this agreement, Berlin Packaging has agreed to purchase PET 1881 caps from Origin Materials for sale and distribution to its broad customer base, which includes many of the world's major beverage companies. The partnership brings together the innovative Origin PET cap product portfolio, beginning with the 1881 beverage closure, and Berlin Packaging's global value-added distribution capabilities. Origin Materials has partnered with Berlin Packaging to supply sustainable PET 1881 caps, marking a major step in eco-friendly packaging. The caps, made via thermoforming and 100 per cent recycled PET, offer recyclability and shelf-life benefits. This strategic deal expands Origin's market reach and supports Berlin's sustainability goals in the $65 billion caps and closures market. The PET 1881 caps represent a technological breakthrough that can enable lighter packaging, improved shelf life, and "mono-material' containers that enhance recyclability and promote circularity. The caps can be made with 100% post-consumer recycled PET and used in food-grade applications, unlike many PP and HDPE caps, and are made by thermoforming instead of traditional injection molding. Berlin Packaging is the world's largest Hybrid Packaging Supplier that continues to build their reputation as global stewards dedicated to cutting-edge innovation, technology, and design. With 1,700 global suppliers, over 55,000 SKUs, and over 100 locations across the globe, Berlin combines the best elements of packaging manufacturing, distribution, and value-added services for their customers. Their commitment to leading the future of sustainable packaging is outlined in their 2024 Sustainability Report. 'When we first connected with Berlin Packaging, the potential, vision, and strong degree of alignment was obvious,' said Origin CEO John Bissell . 'Their broad and deep distribution footprint not only immediately extends our market reach for 1881, but also opens the door for all our forthcoming formats across all closure applications globally. As a strategic customer, Berlin was exceptionally attractive because of their expertise in connecting closure products with brands to unlock the highest value opportunities. We look forward to working together.' Balaji Jayaseelan, VP of Sustainability at Berlin Packaging, commented: 'At Berlin Packaging, our sustainability strategy is focused on innovation, collaboration, and measurable impact. We are driven by the belief that Anything Is Possible, and we see that belief in Origin as well. We're excited to partner with Origin to bring their world-changing PET caps to our world-class customers.' Bissell added: 'We believe this strategic customer relationship is a turning point for Origin. We've announced our plans to ramp supply quickly, and today we've provided insight into our first publicly named customer. The sophistication and reach of Berlin Packaging is welcome alongside Origin's growing list of prospective customers in different stages of our pipeline. It is an honor to work with Berlin Packaging as we begin to address the $65 billion global caps and closures market.' Berlin Packaging agrees to purchase PET bottle caps from Origin Materials
Berlin Packaging has agreed to purchase sustainable polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle caps from technology company Origin Materials. The deal will see Berlin Packaging procure PET 1881 caps for sale and distribution to its customer network, which includes multiple beverage manufacturers. The partnership is also said to leverage Berlin Packaging's global distribution capabilities. The move aims to enhance the availability of these packaging solutions for the beverage industry. Origin Materials CEO John Bissell said: 'When we first connected with Berlin Packaging, the potential, vision, and strong degree of alignment was obvious. 'Their broad and deep distribution footprint not only immediately extends our market reach for 1881 but also opens the door for all our forthcoming formats across all closure applications globally.' The PET 1881 caps are designed to facilitate lighter packaging solutions and extend product shelf life. They are classified as monomaterial containers, which improve recyclability and support circular economy initiatives, according to the company. The caps can be produced using 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) PET, making them suitable for food-grade applications, in contrast to many polypropylene and high-density polyethylene alternatives. The manufacturing process for the caps involves thermoforming, differing from the conventional injection-moulding technique. Berlin Packaging sustainability vice-president Balaji Jayaseelan said: 'At Berlin Packaging, our sustainability strategy is focused on innovation, collaboration, and measurable impact. 'We are driven by the belief that Anything Is Possible, and we see that belief in Origin as well. We're excited to partner with Origin to bring their world-changing PET caps to our world-class customers.' Berlin Packaging is claimed to be the world's largest hybrid packaging supplier of glass, plastic, and metal containers and closures. It has a network of 1,700 suppliers, offers over 55,000 stock-keeping units, and operates more than 100 locations worldwide. The company provides a range of packaging manufacturing, distribution, and value-added services. Last month, Berlin Packaging acquired Italian company Cosmei, which specialises in creating streamlined essentials and custom designs in collaboration with beauty brands. Berlin Packaging Collects Three Esteemed Awards for Design of Limited-Edition Remus Bourbon Babe Ruth Reserve Bottle
CHICAGO, Feb. 19, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Berlin Packaging, the world's largest Hybrid Packaging Supplier®, is proud to announce that they have won three awards for their design of the limited-edition Remus Bourbon's Babe Ruth Reserve bottle: two 2025 Pac Global Awards - one Best in Class (Brand Marketing Specialty, Connected Category) and one Award of Distinction (Brand Marketing Specialty, Sports Category) – as well as the 2024 Beverage Digest Award for Best Packaging/Label Design. Berlin Packaging's Studio One Eleven® design team created a custom bottle for Remus Babe Ruth Reserve, a special collector's edition with a limited release of 10,624 bottles, one for each of the Babe's plate appearances. Each bottle is numbered and bears a QR code on the back label panel, allowing consumers to scan the code to learn the outcome of the plate appearance associated with their bottle's unique number. The QR code also invites consumers to hunt for 'home run bottles' and other uncommon expressions, creating a more engaging brand experience and a sense of personalization and exclusivity. The package itself is an ornate Art Deco-inspired rectangular glass bottle that pays homage to the style of the 1920s. The embossed baseball-diamond pattern on the glass, wooden cork closure that resembles the knob of a baseball bat, and incorporation of Ruth's signature on both the front and back labels all honor America's pastime. The PAC Global Awards Competition is held annually by PAC Global, a not-for-profit packaging association with over 2,400 members. The 2025 awards come as PAC Global celebrates its 75th anniversary. The Beverage Digest Awards celebrate excellence across the beverage industry. Winners of the 2024 competition earned a place of distinction from a field of over 170 entries from around the globe. 'We're honored to have earned recognition from PAC Global and Beverage Digest for our work on Remus Babe Ruth Reserve,' said Scott Jost, Chief Innovation Officer at Berlin Packaging. 'The awards showcase our team's extraordinary skill, creativity, and dedication to innovation.'
