Moroccan film «Everybody Loves Touda» shines at Cannes with double award win

The latest feature film by Nabil Ayouch, Everybody Loves Touda, has won two awards at the Critics' Awards for Arab Films, held alongside the Cannes Festival from May 13 to 24, 2025. The film received the Best Screenplay Award (Nabil Ayouch and Maryam Touzani) and the Best Actress Award (Nisrin Erradi), following its official selection last year and its designation as Morocco's entry for the Oscars in the Best Foreign Film category. «Morocco triumphs once again, just as it did two years ago when The Blue Caftan by Maryam Touzani also won significant awards», a statement noted, highlighting that Nabil Ayouch's film has earned recognition elsewhere. Notably, it received the Grand Prize and Best Actress Award in Valenciennes (France), the Best Actress Award at FESPACO (Burkina Faso), and further accolades in Malmö (Sweden). Screened at international festivals including Mill Valley and Palm Springs (United States), El Gouna (Egypt), Angoulême (France), and the FIFM in Marrakech (Morocco), Everybody Loves Touda is now rolling out internationally. After its Moroccan theatrical release in December 2024, it is currently showing in France, Belgium, and Switzerland, with initial releases underway in Sweden and Romania. In Germany, it will hit theaters starting May 29, alongside ongoing runs in Italy, Norway, and Denmark. In this film, Touda dreams of becoming a chikha. Every evening in the bars of her small provincial town, she sings ancient texts of resistance, love, and emancipation, hoping for a better future for herself and her son. She eventually decides to leave everything behind to live and shine in Casablanca. Balancing romance and poignant moments, Everybody Loves Touda offers a poetic mosaic exploring universal themes of love, family, and the quest for self. Besides Nisrin Erradi in the lead role, the cast includes Joud Chamihy and Jalila Talemsi, with guest appearances by Amine Ennaji, Abdellatif Chaouqi, Abderrahim Elmaniari, Mounia Lamkimel, and Abdelilah Rachid. Produced in Morocco by Ali'n Productions, in co-production with Les Films du Nouveau Monde (France), Velvet Films (Belgium), SnowGlobe (Denmark), Viking Film (Netherlands), and Staer (Norway), Everybody Loves Touda is sold internationally by MK2 International.

Demi Moore's candid and wise words on ageing; say it's different from 'being old'

Demi Moore at a recent event discussed her views on aging. In an open statement, the 62-year-old actress stressed that growing older should not be viewed as getting "old," but rather as a valuable part of life. Perceptions around aging According to The Hollywood Reporter, Demi discussed how attitudes toward women in their 50s, 60s, and 70s have shifted, particularly in Hollywood. 'I think that there was a sense of things ending at a certain point as opposed to reality, which is just that we're evolving, it's not ending,' she said. She also addressed the common confusion between aging and being old, noting, 'I have also thought recently about this idea that ageing and being old are not the same thing. And somehow we've confused that and that ageing actually is a tremendous gift.' She shared that she feels a strong sense of peace and acceptance in her current phase of life. She stated, 'I would not trade — you could not pay me to be 21. As good as it might sound, it was torture!' She described her present mindset as 'a peaceful space of acceptance and freedom,' something she deeply values. Oscars 2025 The actress went further back to the recent Oscars, where Demi Moore was regarded as a serious contender for the Best Actress Award, which Mikey Madison won. When asked about the idea of eventually winning an Oscar, she responded thoughtfully: 'I think that would be nice. I can't say I would be mad at it.' She expressed a philosophical view on not winning the award. 'The question is, 'Should I have won?' It is certainly not the perspective of how I hold it because I didn't. And I really do subscribe to this idea that everything in life is happening for me, not to me,' she said. Beyond awards Although Moore felt disappointed, she placed the experience in a broader perspective. 'Of course, there's disappointment. I also immediately recognise that there is something that is greater than I am to be in service to, even if I don't know what that is,' she explained. She concluded by emphasizing that her journey is ongoing. 'The message here is that there's more work to be done, that this issue is not complete,' she said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Through her words, Demi Moore offered a graceful and inspiring perspective, one that prioritizes purpose over fame and accepts aging as a process of personal development.
