Value Scope: Each way horseracing tips from Steve Jones for Friday day on ITV

The Betfred Derby Festival opens at Epsom with the running of the Betfred Oaks and our tipster has a view on the likely outcome of the fillies' Classic Say hello to REVOIR (4.00) in the Betfred Oaks. Ralph Beckett's filly needs to show a fair chunk of improvement to have any chance in the fillies' version of the Epsom Classics. The step up to 1m4f for the first time is certainly one valid reason why she might take a significant leap forward. Her staying on second behind Qilin Queen at Newbury three weeks ago came in a Listed race that has been won by subsequent Group 1 winners Nashwa and Sea Of Class in recent years. ‌ The way she hit the line suggests this stiffer test of stamina is just what she wants and there has to be doubts about this distance for several of her rivals. ‌ She is also likely to have sharpened up for that first run since making a successful debut in heavy ground at Nottingham last October and the softer ground is another positive. Have 1pt each-way at 10-1. JULIA AUGUSTA (4.35) is worth chancing in the Trustatrader Handicap. She spent last summer running in Listed and Group races after joining David O'Meara from Roger Varian. Her fourth behind smart Breege in the Group 3 Princess Elizabeth Stakes at this meeting 12 months ago was a cracking effort and it proves she handles this tricky track. She was also far from disgraced in the Group 2 Duke Of Cambridge Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Group 3 Valiant Stakes. This handicap will be an awful lot easier and, if she is anywhere near her best on her first start since November, she should have solid claims. Have 1pt each-way at 25-1. Sky Bet is paying out on five places. ‌ WARDA JAMILA (3.15) ran really well when a close fourth in the City and Suburban Handicap on her first start of the season. She returns to run over the same course and distance in the Betfred Nifty 50 Handicap, having failed to cope with Chester's tight turns last month. The pick of her form from last year would give her a decent chance. Have 1pt each-way at 20-1. Sky Bet is offering five places.

Derby declarations move to 72-hour stage

The Betfred Derby will become a 72-hour declaration race in 2025 for the first time in its 245-year history, The Jockey Club has announced. In a historic move, the world's most famous Flat race – which was first staged in 1780 – is the first Group One race held in Britain to introduce 72-hour declarations. The Jockey Club said it hoped that bringing forward the declaration deadline to Wednesday, 4 June will "prove beneficial in building a sense of anticipation and excitement both domestically and globally". Jim Allen, general manager of Epsom Downs Racecourse, said: "This racecourse has been at the forefront of positive change and new initiatives in British horse racing for generations, with the Derby becoming the first race to be filmed back in 1896 and then the first sporting event to be broadcast in 1931. "We're delighted to be able to introduce 72-hour declarations for this year's Betfred Derby, demonstrating that we are always looking for new ways to innovate and ensure that our sport's most iconic Flat race continues to stand out from the rest. "Having consulted with a range of stakeholders on this issue we are confident that this change will not only help build anticipation for the world's most famous Flat race earlier in the week but also provide more certainty around the runners and riders on the day, driving more interest and engagement in advance of the start of the Betfred Derby Festival. "We are hugely grateful to the British Horseracing Authority for their co-operation and help in order to make this change happen at relatively short notice, and to all those participants who have supported us in making this move." The other seven races staged on Betfred Derby Day and all those taking place on Ladies Day will retain their 48-hour declaration deadline.
