Big move Ratan Tata's Tata Group as Deepika Bhan gets major role at BigBasket, set to replace TCS COO due to...
(File) In a major leadership reshuffle at the Tata Group, Deepika Khattar Bhan, president-packaged foods at Tata Consumer Products, is set to replace Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) chief operating officer (COO) Aarthi Subramanian, on the board of BigBasket. Subramanian, who is also an executive director at TCS, is stepping down from the BigBasket board to focus on her responsibilities at India's largest IT services exporter, Moneycontrol reported. Who is Deepika Bhan? Deepika Bhan is a well-known name in the corporate world, boasting more than two experience in FMCG, brand building and supply-chain management. Before joining the Tata Group, Bhan worked at Hindustan Unilever and Unilever, where she held various leadership roles, including in markets and categories. Bhan's new role is part of the online grocer's efforts to focus on private labels and packaged goods, which are seen as critical areas for boosting customer engagement and improving profit margins in the ever-increasing competitive quick commerce sector. The reshuffle comes days after BigBasket appointed Manish Bajoria as its new chief financial officer, a move seen by experts as part of the company's push to strengthen its strategic and financial footing amid surging competition in the quick commerce space. How quick commerce players are reshuffling leadership roles? Notably, BigBasket's appointment of Deepika Bhan is not a standalone phenomenon in India's quick commerce and online food delivery sector, and is part of a broader reshuffle within the space. On Monday, online food delivery giant Eternal (formerly Zomato), appointed Aditya Mangla as CEO of its food delivery and ordering business and strategic mobility platform (SMP). In December 2024, Zomato-owned quick commerce giant, Blinkit, had appointed Flipkart veteran Vipin Kapooria as CFO, while in May this year, Instamart– Blinkit's main rival– named Ankit Jain, another senior Flipkart executive, as the senior vice president of operations. Who else is part of BigBasket board? The board of directors of BigBasket includes its co-founder and CEO CEO Hari Menon, aurabh Agrawal, Group CFO and executive director at Tata Sons; Ankur Verma, senior vice president at Tata Sons; and Vishal Gupta, partner at Bessemer Venture Partners. Vipul Parekh, another co-founder is also a board member. Parekh rejoined BigBasket in 2024 after VS Sudhakar, another co-founder of the company, stepped down.

Perfect driving record: Gurgaon's first ‘traffic champions' set an example
Gurgaon: A fine arts graduate, a 52-year-old and the son of a BJP functionary were among five city residents to be felicitated by the traffic police on Thursday. Cops scoured hundreds of hours of CCTV footage from last month to shortlist the city's first "traffic champions". Shyam Jee Bhan, Ajay, Priya, Mamta and Surender Gahlot – all of them commuters who regularly drive – were on Thursday called to DCP (traffic) Rajesh Kumar Mohan's office in Sector 28 and awarded 'letters of appreciation' because they did not violate any traffic rules all through May and never received a challan. DCP Mohan said this ceremony was part of police's new initiative – 'Drive Right, Shine Bright' – to encourage people to drive safely. Every month, police will scan footage from the Integrated City Control Centre (ICCC), which is linked to traffic cameras around Gurgaon, to search for "champions" like Bhan and Priya. "Our aim is not to generate revenue through challans but to also recognise the sincerity and discipline of those commuters who never get challaned and don't put lives at risk. They are the real traffic heroes, and everyone should recognise them and learn from them," the DCP said at the event on Thursday. He added that police will be "more than happy" if they "don't get a chance to challan anyone". Shyam Jee Bhan, a resident of DLF-2, said he was "sceptical" when he first got a call from police. "One gets cautious if the police are calling you. Eventually, I got it confirmed through a friend that Gurgaon traffic police have initiated a unique campaign, and I am among the first traffic champions here," Bhan said. The 52-year-old told TOI he moved to Gurgaon in 1998 and has always followed traffic rules. "I urge all commuters to follow traffic rules. These days, everyone wants to be ahead of others, but a little caution can avoid road rage incidents too," he said. The letter of appreciation given to Bhan commended him for not breaking any traffic rules in May, and never having a challan issued against his car. "It demonstrates outstanding discipline and civic responsibility on your part. Your conduct contributes to safer roads, smoother traffic, and sets a powerful example for fellow citizens," the award read. Priya, a 23-year-old who recently completed her BA in fine arts, also urged commuters to drive safely. The Sikanderpur resident said her parents always ask her to follow the rules. "All parents should encourage their children," she added. For Surender Gahlot, son of a BJP functionary, leaving early to reach one's destination in time does the trick. "It helps avoid speeding," he said. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Rare bypass surgery saves 2-year-old with Kawasaki disease in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: Surgeons at Medanta Hospital performed a rare coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) on a two-year-old boy from Iraqi Kurdistan suffering from advanced Kawasaki disease. The child's severe coronary blockages and 25% heart function required a five-hour procedure that used both internal thoracic arteries, a method seldom applied to patients this young. Also known as mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome, Kawasaki is an inflammatory condition that affects blood vessels in young children (under the age of 5) and can severely damage the heart. This can lead to serious heart complications, with around 5% of affected children developing large coronary artery aneurysms and severe vessel narrowing. While the exact cause remains unknown, it is believed to stem from an abnormal immune response to an infection. Diagnosed with Kawasaki disease at just eight months, the child initially received treatment locally. However, his condition progressively worsened. He would get breathless, fatigued easily, and was unable to play or keep up with other children. After multiple consultations, he was referred to Medanta for advanced care. By the time he was admitted at the age of two, he was critically ill. Doctors at Medanta found his heart function dropped to just 25% (LVEF), and imaging revealed severely dilated and blocked coronary arteries. A CT coronary angiogram confirmed aneurysms and complete blockages of both left and right coronary arteries, while a PET scan showed hibernating myocardium, areas of the heart muscle receiving inadequate blood flow but still viable. Given the severity of the blockages and the child's failing heart, a team led by Dr Anil Bhan, chairman, cardiac surgery, cardiac care, Medanta, Gurgaon, opted for an exceptionally rare surgical approach, coronary artery bypass grafting using both internal thoracic arteries (ITAs), which is almost never performed on children this young. The internal thoracic arteries (ITAs) are preferred in such surgeries because they grow as the child grows and remain functional for life. Highlighting the complexity of the surgery, Dr Bhan said, "Kawasaki disease is not very rare, but advanced coronary artery involvement requiring surgery is uncommon in children. The challenge in this case was not just the size of the child's arteries, but the fact that both the left and right coronary arteries were severely diseased. The surgery involved using both internal mammary arteries (IMAs) as grafts, which is technically complex. We harvested the arteries and created new pathways to restore blood flow to the heart. This kind of double artery bypass is extremely rare in such young patients. The 5-hour procedure required meticulous precision, with surgeons using microsurgical techniques to ensure the grafts would hold and function effectively. Post-surgery imaging confirmed successful revascularisation—restoring healthy blood flow to the heart." This was the second youngest Kawasaki-related coronary artery bypass surgery performed by Dr Anil Bhan, the first being in 2008 on a 1.5-year-old child, which was at the time recognised in world literature as the youngest CABG ever done. Following the surgery, the child has shown encouraging signs of recovery. His heart function is steadily improving, and his energy levels have noticeably increased. The medical team expects his cardiac health to continue improving in the coming months.

Rahul Gandhi to visit Haryana on June 4, to hold meeting with state senior leaders
Chandigarh (Haryana) [India], June 2 (ANI): Haryana Congress Chief Udai Bhan on Monday said that Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, will visit the state on June 4 to hold a meeting with state senior leaders to address various organisational issues within the state unit. Speaking to the media, Bhan said, 'On the 4th, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi will be visiting the Haryana PCC office to address all AICC and PCC observers as part of the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan (Organisation Creation Campaign).' 'Rahul Ji is coming on the 4th to address and guide us. He will first hold a meeting at 11:30 AM with senior leaders associated with the organisation. Leaders like Bhupinder Hooda, Kumari Selja, Deepender Hooda, Randeep Surjewala, and several others will participate in the meeting. After this, he will address the AICC and PCC observers. He will then depart for Chandigarh,' Bhan said. Earlier today, reacting to Rahul Gandhi's upcoming visit to Chandigarh, Haryana Minister Anil Vij said that it has been more than eight months and the Congress still has not been able to decide the Leader of Opposition in the state. 'Congress comments on national issues and talks big about the country's major problems, but it has not yet been able to decide on the Leader of Opposition,' Vij said. 'It has been more than eight months, and they still haven't been able to decide on their Leader of Opposition, which is quite disheartening. Several meetings have already taken place, and they must have been informed about this issue. Perhaps Rahul Gandhi is coming specifically for this Haryana meeting,' Vij further claimed When asked about infighting within the Haryana Congress, Anil Vij took a dig at the party, saying, 'Politics is a strange thing. The same people create conflicts, and the same people broker peace.' (ANI)
