Bhu Guarantee Scheme is the sixth one of govt
Vijayanagara: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday said that the Bhu Guarantee scheme was the sixth of the Congress Guarantee schemes and added that it was meant to repay the debt of the people who blessed us with power in the state. 'We are giving the Bhu Guarantee scheme as the sixth guarantee to repay our debt to the people of the state who blessed us with power. As per the directions of the AICC President, the guarantee schemes will not be stopped as long as Congress government is in power,' he said speaking at the 'Samarpana convention' organised to mark the state government completing two years. 'We are not here to celebrate completing two years in office. We are here to repay the debts of the people of Karnataka and rededicate ourselves to the service of the people. You have blessed us with 136 MLAs under the leadership of Mallikarjuna Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. As promised, we delivered the five guarantees. We are now launching the sixth guarantee in Bhu Guarantee scheme,' he added. 'Our government is giving khatas to people who did not have it for the last 50 years. I would like to congratulate Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda and his team for making this historic scheme possible. I am announcing the seventh guarantee scheme of digitising all the khatas in urban areas,' he added. 'Our government has put a break on corruption in the last two years. Indira Gandhi started the steel plant in this district. Sonia Gandhi started RTPS here. The Congress party has won in all the places where our leader Rahul Gandhi conducted Bharat Jodo yatra. Kalyana Karnataka has given us 6 MPs from the region. We are happy to be giving Rs 5,000 crores to the region for development,' he said. 'Opposition parties are criticising us. Criticisms die but good work lives on. Our schemes are a proof of that. We have plans to fill tanks in the state while we are discussing Navali dam. We are planning to utilise our share of 24 TMC through lift irrigation. We are committed to protect your interests.' 'Industries have come forward to invest Rs 10 lakh crore in our state during our tenure. We have launched Kalyana patha scheme to develop roads in rural areas. All other departments are also coming out new schemes. We follow the philosophy of Basavanna and we have kept our word accordingly. The Opposition is criticising us as they can't digest our accomplishments. Irrespective of criticism, we will continue to do good work,' he added.

Congress rally against price rise starts by paying respects to Pahalgam victims
Senior Congress leaders inaugurated a rally to protest against the NDA-led Union Government, in Belagavi on April 28, by paying respects to the tourists from Karnataka who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir. All leaders and delegates observed a minute's silence before the rally began. They mocked the price rise by garlanding domestic LPG cylinders. A few women beneficiaries of the guarantee schemes shared their experience and thanked the government of Karnataka. Most leaders said that the prices of all essential commodities had increased in an unprecedented manner due to the 'wrong economic policies' of the NDA government at the Centre. Asif (Raju) Sait, MLA and district unit president, welcomed the leaders. He said that the Congress had strongly opposed the terror attack in Kashmir. 'The Congress will support the Union Government in all the tough measures it plans and takes against terrorists,' he said. He said that the Bharat Jodo padayatra by Rahul Gandhi was a historic event to spread the message of love. 'The ideology of the Congress is the ideology of the Constitution. All of us should accept and follow it. That is the only solution to our problems,' he said. Laxmanrao Chingale, Chikkodi district unit president, accused the BJP of trying to make the life of the poor worse so that they do not have any time to reflect on the governance of the Union Government. Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar said that the government of Karnataka is spending around ₹80,000 crore per year on various guarantees and direct benefit transfer schemes, which was unprecedented. 'We are the only government who have fulfilled our promises in less than 100 days. The State BJP has organised the Jana Akrosha rally only to distract people from the failures of the Union Government and the infighting in the State BJP,' she said. 'Karnataka BJP has not succeeded in its rallies. It has stopped them half-way. That is because the Union Government is behind the price rise, and not the government of Karnataka. The day they announced Jana Akrosha rally, the Union Government increased the price of domestic LPG cylinder by ₹50. It was a slap on their face,' she said. 'I urge you to compare the price of food items, cooking oil, petrol and diesel, gas cylinder, fertiliser, cement and other commodities. All this is because BJP leaders are supporting their corporate friends who are interested only in profit. After the Kashmir terror attacks, the Union Government should have arranged free transport for families of the victims. But there were no flights available immediately. The ticket prices were so high. The Centre should be ashamed of not providing transport to the victims. It was the Karnataka government that helped them return home safely,' she said. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM D. K. Shivakumar, Ministers Satish Jarkiholi, H. K. Patil, K. H. Muniyappa, M. B. Patil, H. C. Mahadevappa, R. B. Thimmapur, MLAs Laxman Savadi, Baba Patil, Raju Kage, former MLAs Firoz Sait and Anjali Nimbalkar, AICC leaders Randeep Singh Surjewala, Nasir Hussein, and Gopinath P. were among those who addressed the gathering.

Horror as woman's body discovered dumped in suitcase on road
A woman's body was discovered stuffed in a suitcase near a bus stand in the northern Indian state of Haryana, prompting shock and outrage. Police arrested a man on suspicion of murder two days after the body of Himani Narwal, 23, was found on the Rohtak-Delhi highway on 1 March. 'We have arrested one accused and further investigations are on," a police official said. 'The accused belonged to a village in Jhajjar district and was known to the deceased,' Hindustan Times quoting a senior police official as saying, referring to a region in Haryana. 'We will produce the man before the court and seek his remand to ascertain the reasons behind the gruesome murder. Prima facie it seems that some grudge took place between the accused and Himani.' The suspect, identified only as Sachin, was detained in neighbouring Delhi and allegedly confessed to the crime, India Today reported. The accused, married with two children, had been in contact with Narwal for more than a year, senior police officer Krishna Kumar Rao said at a press conference on Monday. He allegedly visited the woman's home in Rohtak on 27 February and stayed overnight. The next day, they got into a heated argument during which he tied her up with a piece of cloth and strangled her to death with a mobile phone charging cable, Mr Rao said. Sachin removed Narwal's jewellery and stuffed her body inside a suitcase he found in the house. Later that night, he took an autorickshaw to the Rohtak bus stand and boarded a bus to Sampla, where he disposed of the body, the police officer added. According to India Today, the man was in a relationship with Narwal and accused her of blackmailing him. He was carrying Narwal's cell phone when he was detained. Rajneesh Kumar, a deputy superintendent of police leading the investigation, said the suitcase belonged to the victim's family. 'We are investigating all angles. We have found certain clues but cannot reveal them at this stage. We are also taking help from cyber and forensic experts, and examining CCTV camera footage,' Mr Kumar was quoted as saying by The Indian Express. Scratches and bite marks found on Sachin's hands indicated that Narwal fought back, the Indian news agency ANI reported. Investigators were also checking whether he had pawned the jewellery as a receipt indicating such a transaction was found on him. Narwal, a law student, had actively participated in opposition leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo campaign and was widely recognised as a Congress party worker. She was last seen on 27 February. Her family, who live in Rohtak's Vijay Nagar, refused to perform her last rites until the perpetrators were brought to justice. Her mother, Savita Rani, alleged foul play saying Narwal's rapid rise in the Congress party could have made her enemies. "It could be someone in the party who was jealous of her or someone else entirely," Ms Rani claimed. Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, from the Congress party, demanded a fair investigation. "A culprit is a culprit, whether he is in the party or outside it. The law must take its course," Mr Hooda said. Senior Haryana minister Anil Vij of the Bharatiya Janata Party described Ms Rani's allegations about internal political rivalry as "serious" and assured that police were thoroughly investigating all possible motives. Congress party lawmaker Deepender Hooda called for stringent action against the perpetrator. "We demand exemplary punishment for whoever is guilty in this case," he said. The autopsy was conducted at the Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences in Rohtak, but the report was still to come.
