Ex-CM Baghel raises concern over increasing road accidents in Chhattisgarh
After the tragic accident in Chhattisgarh's Saragaon in which 13 people were killed. Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel on Monday raised concern over the increasing accidents in the state and urged the government to take them "seriously." Former Chhattisgarh CM Baghel requested the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government to come up with some solutions to prevent road accidents, along with providing ex gratia to the families of the victims. Expressing his condolences, Bhupesh Baghel said that a total 23 people have died in various road accidents. "I have got information that, including yesterday and today, total 23 people have died in various road accidents. I express my condolences. I request govt to take these road accident cases seriously. Along with providing ex-gratia, they should come up with some solutions to prevent such road accidents from happening further," he said. At least 13 people lost their lives and 12 others were injured after a truck collided with a trailer near Saragaon on Raipur-Balodabazar Road in Chhattisgarh on Sunday. Raipur SP Lal Ummed Singh said, "Some people from the village Chataud had gone to Bana Banarasi to participate in the Chatthi program. They were returning after the program was over... During this, an accident happened near Raipur-Balodabazar road... A total of 13 people have died... 12 other people have been injured... All have been sent to the hospital for immediate treatment" People were immediately rushed to Dr B.R. Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, Raipur. Last month, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways plans to launch a Safety assessment rating for trucks and commercial vehicles along the lines of the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP), the country's own four-wheel star rating system. "The idea is to encourage manufacturers to improve the production quality, making vehicles safer. Similarly, the government is already working on standards and a safety assessment system for battery-operated e-rickshaws in the country, as they suffer from safety issues. The safety improvement in e-rickshaws will improve their quality and generate more employment," said Nitin Gadkari.

Mahindra BE6 to Skoda Kylaq: All cars crash tested by Bharat NCAP in 2025 so far
Bharat New Car Assessment Program or BNCAP has initiated crash testing the automobiles sold in India for nearly one and a half years, from December 2023 when it first emerged with the models such as the Tata Safari and Tata Harrier. In the past 17 months, Bharat NCAP has tested many models in diverse shapes and body types. Even in 2025, the Bharat NCAP tested several new passenger cars from the range of coupe SUVs to sub-compact SUVs. The electric coupe SUV obtained five stars each for adult and child occupants. The electric vehicle had scored 32 out of a possible 32 points in adult occupant protection, making it the safest Bharat NCAP tested car until that time. Under the category of child occupant protection, it had 45 out of 49 points. It is loaded with safety features such as six airbags as a standard, electronic parking brake with auto hold, 360-degree camera, auto park assist, three-point seatbelts for all occupants and ISOFIX child seat mounts. There is also a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a Level-2 ADAS featuring forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking. The Mahindra XEV 9e is priced between ₹21.90 lakh and ₹30.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Mahindra BE 6 is another electric SUV by the domestic auto behemoth that was crash tested by Bharat NCAP in tandem with the XEV 9e. Similar to the XEV 9e, the Mahindra BE 6 also fetched a five-star safety rating. BE 6 scored 31.97 out of 32 points in the AOP segment, while in COP it scored 45 out of 49. It has the same safety features as the larger XEV 9e. The price of this EV varies from ₹18.90 lakh to ₹26.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Skoda Kylaq is another recently launched SUV in India. It was crash tested by BNCAP in January 2025. It achieved a five-star rating in the Bharat NCAP crash test. The sub-four metre SUV recorded 30.88 out of 32 points in the AOP category, and in COP, it registered 45 out of 49 points. The Skoda Kylaq, which faces some stiff competition in the Indian market and features six airbags as standard fitments, electronic stability control (ESC), traction control, rear parking camera with sensors, and tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). Presently, it is the cheapest Skoda SUV available in India and ranges from ₹7.89 lakh to ₹14.40 lakh (ex-showroom). The Kia Syros was also one of the sub-four-metre SUVs tested by Bharat NCAP this year. The Kia Syros scored 30.21 points out of 32 in the AOP category, whereas in the COP category, it received 44.42 points out of 49. The Kia Syros comes equipped with six airbags as standard, electronic stability control (ESC), front, side and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and an electronic parking brake. It also receives ISOFIX child seat anchorages and a level-2 ADAS suite. It is available in the range of ₹9 lakh to ₹17.80 lakh (ex-showroom).

Mahindra XEV 9e to Kia Syros: All the cars crash tested in 2025 by Bharat NCAP till now
Bharat New Car Assessment Program or BNCAP has started crash testing cars that are sold in India for almost one and a half years, since its debut in December 2023 with the models like the Tata Safari and Tata Harrier. Also, there is a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a Level-2 ADAS with features like forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking. The Mahindra XEV 9e comes priced between ₹21.90 lakh and ₹30.50 lakh (ex-showroom). 2 Mahindra BE 6 Mahindra BE 6 is another premium electric SUV from the homegrown auto giant that was crash tested by the Bharat NCAP alongside the XEV 9e. Just like the XEV 9e, the Mahindra BE 6 too scored a five-star safety rating. The BE 6 scored 31.97 points out of 32 in the AOP category, while in the COP segment, it scored 45 points out of 49. While in the COP, BE 6 scored the same points as XEV 9e, it lost minor points in AOP. It comes with identical safety features as the bigger XEV 9e. Pricing of this EV ranges from ₹18.90 lakh to ₹26.90 lakh (ex-showroom). 3 Skoda Kylaq Skoda Kylaq is another SUV that was launched in India in the recent past. It was crash tested by BNCAP in January 2025. It scored five stars in the Bharat NCAP crash test. The sub-four metre SUV scored 30.88 points out of 32 in the AOP category, while in COP, it scored 45 points out of 49. The Skoda Kylaq, which comes competing with some tough rivals in the Indian market, comes equipped with six airbags as standard, electronic stability control (ESC), traction control, a rear parking camera with sensors, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). Currently, it is the most affordable Skoda SUV in India, priced between ₹7.89 lakh and ₹14.40 lakh (ex-showroom). 4 Kia Syros The Kia Syros was another sub-four-metre SUV that was tested by Bharat NCAP this year. The Kia Syros comes with 30.21 points out of 32 in the AOP segment, while in the COP category, it scored 44.42 points out of 49. The safety improvement in e-rickshaws will improve their quality and generate more employment," said Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, while inaugurating a two-day workshop on Vehicle and Fleet safety jointly organised by the New Car Assessment Program (GNCAP ) and the Institute of Road Traffic Education (IRTE).The Bharat New Car Assessment Programme was launched by Gadkari in 2023 and aims to enhance road safety by elevating vehicle safety standards for up to 3.5-tonne vehicles in India."India accounts for the highest number of fatal road accidents, with 4.8 lakh road crashes each year resulting in 1.8 lakh deaths. The government's top priorities are road safety, expansion of safe highways, vehicle safety and bolstering electric vehicles. The ministry is also working on reducing logistics costs to 9 per cent in the next couple of years from the present 14-16 per cent, as the automobile industry plays a key role in India's economic growth," said Gadkari.
